I do hate SMGs because I am a gallente scout so they pack the hurt against my huge majority of armor. And thank god some one else realizes how damn great the TY 5 is. I love it's hipfire accuracy and POWER!!!!! I wonder what people think when they were killed by a scout with a super pistol. Boy, oh boy, the game is in dark days. I'm not satisfied with my PRO weapons (smg, sniper, knives) I don't know what to do with the SP anymore. I want to try the plasma cannon and the scrambler pistol for variety.
I just watched a Mexican Cartel movie and it made me want to try out the pistol again because they were pistoleers. In one scene a corrupt church official baptized "white girl", a white pistol.
I'm doing the samething I did b4 uprising and skilling into diff. weapons. The game is a joke so I'll try out diff. things. Respect to you scouts who use pistols, plasma cannons. Victory over all. |

The annoying thing is that with the aiming changes it seems harder to get those headshots (with AA on or off), so most of the time I see myself taking down the shields with the pistol and finishing them off with the SMG - it really is a beautiful combo. The only difficulty is the range, especially with the breach pistol having less than the other variants.
edit - and yeah, hate getting killed by ARs at 100m whilst at full sprint.
I definitely use ADS on a breach when I have the element of surprise so I can line up head shots. I haven't had a whole lotta issue with lining up headshots in 1.4, they are still fairly prevalent for me, *god I love the Bell*. Definitely I have found that the breach is not meant for the super frantic moments, where you are taking damage fast and you need to get the guy out fast. But damn I love OHK'ing snipers. One time I was walking (not running, it felt more like walking) behind an enemy Heavy and his HMG ran out of bullets and was taking fire. He turned around and started running away right towards me. I had the Breach Pistol out at the moment and it felt so slow-motion, I just popped that sucker heavy in the head. I bet he was thinking "Worst Decision Ever". Anyways love the breach! GB 9 Breach AR is my primary. I had a fantastic breach pistol kill the other day when I ran into the entrance of a building straight into the barrel of an HMG - I somehow managed to get 3 shots off right on his face and he was dead before he even got a shot off! |

The pistol is such an elegant weapon... it's the perfect complement to the scout suit. Plus the fitting requirements are pretty good as well. The Breach with some of the proficiency mods.... .damn, look out! If you can make it work as a scout I think it's one of the more difficult play styles since you typically don't have a lot of time under fire to line up precision shots.
I think I may have to experiment with some pistol fits tomorrow.
Or, right now.

Have not had much luck with pistols myself, though the other day another scout taught me the value of one lol Ran into them and we both had knives out. So I am thinking, awesome knife fight time. we face off, i am just about to make my move *BLAM* quickdraw one shot scrambler to the face and I go down. First i was disappointed about no knife fight... then i realized how i just got Clint Eastwooded, and how hard that must have been to pull off |

Hiya Scouts!
Interested observations yesterday; thought I'd share with you guys.
Began the day blasting as usual. Found myself missing with the Shotgun a 'bit more than usual. It was in the AM, so drink was not to blame this time :p.
So ... experiments!
Ran a handful of matches with a Breach Shotgun. Was hoping to find it Chromosome-like following the 1.4 fix. I won't say the Breach is bad -- it feels great landing the occasional high-damage shot and is an excellent training tool -- but I will say it is too weak, too slow and too unreliable for me to trust. Scoutly Acrobatics? These don't mix with the breach. Found the weapon dang near useless anytime I came under fire. Gonna hang up my old friend as novelty item for now; perhaps the Breach will be tweaked down the road.
This is where it gets interesting!
Played a dozen or so matches with a BPO AR at zero SP investment. I must say that this gun is nasty effective on a Scout. Firstly, I had no problems downing shotgunners by hipfire/backpedal CQC -- this made me mad, but it is what it is. Of greater significance, the AR opened up worlds of tactical options I'd never even considered as a shotgunner. At first glance, it is more reliable than a SG in close-quarters and exponentially more versatile in a tactical sense. I didn't pull off any 100m kills; I imagine that those will come with a little SP investment.
I have tasted the forbidden fruit. It was salty and delicious, Brothers. Less risk, more reward.

What I did pull off was far fewer deaths per match, as many "surprise!" kills as with a shotgun, and bunches of risk-free kills from distance.
Rushing into optimal range -- even from behind -- with a shotgun is risky. Making your position known is risky. Abandoning cover to close a gap is risky. Wielding a low RoF weapon that hits unreliably and often for low damage is risky. You'd think the risks every shotgunner takes would be counterbalanced by reward. Having to 3-plunk targets in CQC isn't reward in my book. By comparison, the AR does everything a shotgun can do and more. Less risk, more reward.
So I have tasted the forbidden fruit. It was salty and delicious, Brothers.

When I first started playing, all I did was spec into increasing the modules on the Arbiter. I found the KLO-1 pistol to be my favorite with a shotgun. The KLO-1 has the greatest range of all the scrambler pistols, which is why I paired it with such a weapon. But the Sniper Sidearm was always the TY-5 (then I got Core Flaylock to mess up those damn dropships). With Proficiency 3 (to use the Wolfman's) the TY-5 does about 150 damage per shot.
Back in Chromosome, I was never a fan of the Charged Sniper Rifle. Sure I could do some massive damage, but if it didn't kill, they got away. That is still true, but A scout can't kill ADV suits with a headshot with anything else. It was however very good in training people to aim. (also fun to run around it and no-scope people because of the charge graphic). I think that is what has become of the Breach in Uprising. The smaller reticle actually makes aiming more precise, the 2 clip makes it important to kill in 1 hit. If it doesn't kill in that first hit, you're done for. You need that second shot to take out a second person. A good training weapon.

Reached lvl 5to dampening and range this week and thought I'd share some observations:
2x proto range , 2x adv precision, M1 locus and nanohives makes an effective pack hunter. Airburst 3x on approach then mop up in cqc is VERY rewarding. Range still not sufficient to prevent random AR deaths in open terrain.
4x proto range, 1x adv precision WILL light up targets beyond the widest internal tacnet ring. Very similar to my quantum scanner fit, minus the kincats. Might make for a fun plasma cannon or MD mortar fit...might try later tonight.
Still waiting for 20% sensitivity bug to get fixed, so let me know if you have and test fits/scenarios you want to run while my cqc game is on hold. |

Nothing else says "hi there" quite like a nade! Bumped range amplification to lvl(4) yesterday ... good stuff. Would bump it up to 5 if I weren't having so much fun with the AR :p
On precision, the A-19 Scanner (36 dB) lights up 90%+ of combatants (in my experience).
Similar passive results can be reached using: Lvl(5) precision+1 bsc enhancer for 36.45 dB Lvl(3) precision + 1 adv enhancer for 35.95 dB.
Lvl(5) precision + 1 cmp enhancer hits 32.40 dB. ^ Likely isn't worth the resources, IMHO. |

Just wanted to mention that this is probably one of the most posted in non-stickied thread. Keep it up, only 13 pages to go before we make 100. Winning.
Edit: With the eWAR discussion above I did want to mention that I, more often than not, get the "scan resisted"message rather than "you've been scanned" flaming halo of doom. This is with lvl 5 in gallente scouts and lvl 3 in profile dampening using no modules. Kinda worth it. (probably don't need to bother with the profile dampening to be honest since 5 levels in racial skill net you a profile of 33 dB) |

What I did pull off was far fewer deaths per match, as many "surprise!" kills as with a shotgun, and bunches of risk-free kills from distance. Conclusion ... Shotgun Risks
- Abandoning cover to rush into optimal range
- Being open and exposed when chasing down targets
- Backpedalers, sidesteppers, and bunny hoppers
- Getting the drop on an AR, ScR, MD or HMG user
- Restricting oneself to a 10m engagement range
Shotgun Rewards
- 3+ plunking most targets (2+ w/a proto)
- Taking damage for nearly every kill
- Revealing one's position for nearly every kill
- Questionable hit detection and all-too-often poor outcomes
By comparison, the AR does everything a shotgun can do. And more. It requires a Scout assume little -- if any -- risk and has comparable TTK to a shotgun. Less risk, more reward. I have tasted the forbidden fruit. It was salty and delicious, Brothers. - Shotty GoBang
I've also found the AR more effective, I've always used it as a sidearm because I main knives... but with 1.4 I've been using the STD AR as a main instead of my proto knives! just sad how bad it is (scout knives/shotgun, not AR)! |

Pretty sure a tie goes to the Hunted, though CCP has not verified. So yes, you'll sniff out more Scouts with passive radar by running a Complex Enhancer. But only if the hunted Scout hasn't yet skilled into Dampening.

Yep all in the AA users' heads, I knew it. All because CCP once mentioned that they were "looking into the situation with Aim-Assist..." (paraphrased), guess they missed the part in that same post where CCP said they probably wouldn't actually be taking action, at least anytime soon. |

Shotty...
Frustrated with my shotgun, I kind of tried the same sort of experiment this weekend, only with a scrambler rifle. It's a little harder to fit than the AR, but the charged shot possibilities are pretty nice. Found myself sneaking around, pegging guys with charged blasts, then finishing them off with my assault scrambler pistol if need be...
Gives me some range, though, allowing me to hunt from a bit of a distance when needed, and I don't have the various problems with the scrambler rifle that I have with my shotty at times.
Also built some AR fits, but didn't use them much just yet. It just seems so wrong, man!!! |
