He probably quit the game I assume or Fang95 was an alt character? Unless someone has seen him recently I would say shift the bounty (or create a new one) for THIS GUY. Its one giant facepalm of a thread where he just rails about Scouts and pretty much everything he says is false or obviously biased. |

Last chance for there to be an all-scout team! For the "Dust Cup" !
signups must be completed in the next 5(?) hours, and I need to get to sleep in the next hour or so. Gotta get 3 more participants!!
mr. musturd is trying to sign up with us as we speak, but having difficulties wrestling with his PS3 internet browser :->
Please go to
http://goo.gl/smpmek
ASAP, to sign up for the team.
Once I have enough team members, I can officially submit the team to the tournament. I cant sign the team up until we have at least 6 members though!

Welp, can't argue with that logic. I've been using the shotgun wrong all this time, I'll be a better scout shotty at it's optimal range which is where the assault rifle is |

Kahn Zo wrote:newberrie shotty scout here. at least I am having fun. Welcome, Kahn
Was under the impression you'd be seeking input from our Scout Sniper vets: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1413591#post1413591
Either way, you're in the right place. I recommend skim-reading through this thread to get a feel for what's changed, what's current, and what we're up against. Once you're up-to-speed, feel free to post any questions you have ... we're here to help.
The following points apply regardless of the Scoutly path you ultimately choose:
1) Improve your odds of survival by making use of your Stealth advantage. 2) Improve your odds of success by squadding up with your Brothers using "Scouts United". 3) Improve your odds of takedown with a good sidearm.
1. Stealth
Detection is your enemy. It exists in the three forms:
- Line-of-Sight - Avoid visual acquisition by playing smart (flanking, cover, etc).
- Passive Scan - All suits have a built-in "radar" with a range of 10m. Easy to beat.
- Active Scan - Can be beat only after sufficient SP investment.
As a Level(3) Gallente Scout, you have a Scan Profile of 38.25 dB. You'll beat the Basic Scanner, but the more common Advanced Scanner will light you up. I recommend getting your Racial Scout skill to Level(5) ASAP so you can beat the majority of scanners in play. Basic or Advanced Active Scanners are most commonly used. On occasion, you'll face a Proto scanner. Don't worry about the Meta 9 (15 dB) Scanner. More on Active Scanners can be found here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1241961#post1241961
2. Scout Brothers
Long story short, Mediums got boosted and Scouts got boned with Uprising. Recognizing early our less-than-stellar odds, disinterested Devs, and dwindling Scoutly ranks, Scout Hero Sontie founded the in-game channel Scouts United. Day after day, Scouts from dozens of different corps band together and terrorize the EZ-Mode masses. It is a salty and beautiful sight to behold. Get in on the carnage by typing "LFSS" ... don't forget to tell the guys you're new. Rookies are always welcome, but chatty ones are shunned. So keep control of your coms and you're guaranteed to pickup all kinds of tactics and advice. Also, stay away from Appia Vibbia. She's a chick, but she's a foul-mouthed and nasty mean one :-)
3. Trusty Sidearm
Whether you're stabbing or shotgunning the EZ-Mode masses, you often aren't going to hit hard enough to finish them. If you hit them at all. Because CCP. Once you're sufficiently stealthy (first priority), start skilling into a reliable sidearm. Generally a Scrambler Pistol or SMG for CQC Gallente; generally Knives for CQC Minmatar; generally an SMG for Scout Snipers.
Lots to read. Hope this helps. We're here if you have any questions. o7

Waste?
only knives let you run into a multi-person objective hack (one person is hacking, one person doing a sloppy job of "lookout") knife the hacker, and get out again safely. You barely even have to slow down. Run through, slightly slowing down for 1second to charge, slash, then keep running through the other side
"Hey bro, you done with the hack yet?? bro?
... bro?? !!!"
The one time knives almost never miss (unless YOU are careless), is taking out a hacker.
Then of course, the REALLY bad lookouts, decide "oh no, he must have been sniped or something! Maybe I should try for the hack myself..."
Similarly for when you come across a gaggle of snipers on a rooftop.

So, I was running my Dragonfly Scout yesterday with Basic Shield extender, shotgun, scrambler pistol, compact nanohive, 2X basic ferroscale plates. I ran up into a group of 4 enemies, my squad/corpmate watching, I shot a guy twice and did 0 damage. then I shot him 2 more times to kill him, the I shot the third guy three times to kill him. The fourth guy takes action as I get a headshot on him with my last bullet. He only had a sliver of health left, so I hit [R2] to finish the job. Only! that's right, another bug where you have the change-weapon animation, but it didn't actually change to my sidearm. So I died, because not 1 but 2 bugs working in tandem. I then made the comment, " I would be so good at this game if shotguns actually worked every time." He immediately responded, "****, if the shotgun actually worked, I would quit this game."

I will admit while the shotgun is not perfect and does have a tendency to either lag shot or not register. For me (IMO) it has improved slightly Im guessing due to better optimization CCP has done on other parts of the game and again (for me) has increased the hit registry at least to 90% instead before 50%-60%. One thing I have noticed though with the shotgun is you have to WAIT, a few seconds before engaging the shot, I know scouts like too spam shots but pause in between shots sometimes to line it up. It definitely helps a bit.
BTW: Perfect weapon for taking your time with shots, the Breach Shotgun. |

Agree 100%.
Ran a KR-17 for 4-5 days. Observed substantially better hit detection. Assuming no latency issues, I hit 9/10 shots with the Breach.
Switched back to CRG yesterday (after a laggy match). Found pausing between shots to improve accuracy. Missed frequently when firing as fast as possible.

LOL he can't deal with a tiny bit of kick from the ARs with a scope? HE MAGICLY can't aim then he gets his DMG MODDED GEK and says its more powerful than his Duvoll without mods... then he's magicly able to aim at the end with his GEK with DMG mods...
also, it looks like he does alot of MW2 vids. |

even testing with ADV ones should be informative.
gallente scout 3, range 3, 2xADV range extenders in ADV suit:
base without extenders is 16.9m
If module bonus for extenders is additive, it will be 16.9 * (35% bonus+35%= 70% bonus) = 28.73m
if it is multiplicative (doubtful) 16.9 * (35% bonus) * (35% bonus) = 30.8m
I've noticed that "10 meter range, actually means "from 0 to 9.x m", so the above woudl prbably work as either 27m, or 29m. but that's still differentiable. Similarly, if there were any penalties, that would most likely show up.
On a PROTO suit, with level 3 range, that would be Base = 19.5m, no modules If additive for 4xADV: 64.7m
On a PROTO suit, with level 4range,that would be Base = 21m, no modules If additive for 4xADV: 69m
If the standard stacking penalties described by http://dust514.wikia.com/wiki/Stacking_Penalty were in effect, then proto, with lvl3 range skill and 4xADV range extenders, would be a miserable 45m For proto gallente, level4 range skill, I believe that would be 48.5m
So just go load up 4xADV range, and tell us if your effective range is more around 45, or more around 65.
