Interested observations yesterday; thought I'd share with you guys.

Began the day blasting as usual. Found myself missing with the Shotgun a 'bit too regularly. It was in the AM, so drink was not to blame this time :p.

So ... experiments!

Ran a handful of matches with a Breach Shotgun. Was hoping to find it Chromosome-like following the 1.4 fix. I won't say the Breach is bad -- it feels great landing the occasional high-damage shot and is an excellent training tool -- but I will say it is too weak, too slow and too unreliable for me to trust. Scoutly Acrobatics? These don't mix with the breach. Found the weapon dang near useless anytime I came under fire. Gonna hang up my old friend as novelty item for now; perhaps the Breach will be tweaked down the road.

This is where it gets interesting!

Played a dozen or so matches with a BPO AR at zero SP investment. I must say that this gun is nasty effective on a Scout. Firstly, I had no problems downing shotgunners by hipfire/backpedal CQC -- this made me mad, but it is what it is. Of greater significance, the AR opened up worlds of tactical options I'd never even considered as a shotgunner. At first glance, it is more reliable than a SG in close-quarters and exponentially more versatile in a tactical sense. I didn't pull off any 100m kills; I imagine that those will come with a little SP investment. What I did pull off was far fewer deaths per match, as many "surprise!" kills as with a shotgun, and bunches of risk-free kills from distance.

Conclusion ...

Shotgun Risks

• Abandoning cover to rush into optimal range
• Being open and exposed when chasing down targets
• Backpedalers, sidesteppers, and bunny hoppers
• Getting the drop on an AR, ScR, MD or HMG user
• Restricting oneself to a 10m engagement range

Shotgun Rewards

• 3+ plunking most targets (2+ w/a proto)
• Taking damage for nearly every kill
• Revealing one's position for nearly every kill
• Questionable hit detection and all-too-often poor outcomes

By comparison, the AR does everything a shotgun can do. And more.
It requires a Scout assume little -- if any -- risk and has comparable TTK to a shotgun.
Less risk, more reward.

i want dualwield a Magsec and a SMG a backup nova knifes, combined with cloak, with AV nades an active scanner, and dampeners to avoid scanners, of course there is no way in hell i will be able to fit all of that on my Gallente scout and hopefully my own custom colors on that dropsuit, im sure that this is not posible at all but hey a scout can dream...

Suit costs like 4000 isk, an I'm gettin 15/25 kills an like 2/6 deaths a match.
Use the isk to stock up, we only have a few months till they possibly screw with BPOS so make money now!

I am considering the same. He made a wonderfully astute observation that a hill can be an advantage or a disadvantage in one of his videos. Also i may subscribe just to troll him a little bit.

Lmao I think I've seen that moron before. He literally was crouching and shooting the shotgun from a pretty far distance away like it was an assault rifle.

I've been seriously considering this as well (in terms of a respec). After my time with the laser rifle I have a strong desire to go all-in on Amarr assault with laser and scrambler pistol.....

wow. thats a serious oversight by CCP, to hand out "come back" incentives in that sort of case :-/

Dear CCP:

Please nerf scouts.

They run a lot. Not at me, or flanking me, but the other way. I find this unfair. I am trying to pad my KDR by running proto squads all day and these people are not making it easy for me. My suggestion: Nerf there speed. They don't need it anyways, right? I mean - how viable of a class do you think you are when your a white/grey figure running around easy to identify terrain with no HP and a CQC weapon?

The rest of us classes have enjoyed the fodder, and we ask you continue to follow your design model you've always had for them and continue to slowly degrade them as you improve the rest of the classes ability to fight.

Do what I do when you see a scout at a distance.

Fire small SMG volleys from range until they turn around.

Whip out knives, slash the air.

9/10 times, they get the message.

I think we even had a good balance between Minmatar and Gallente. We also had enough balance to really flesh out the squad. We had a few people who could run AV, we had two Nova Knivers, 2-3 shotgunners, and 2 people who went sniper if need be. Really made changing tactics on the fly EASY.

Hopefully, with the better HD, this would mean that we would be forced to flank and be even more sneaky now.

At the same time, I would be fine with this if the HD would make it so that I can actually kill my targets before they turn around.

I'll let you in a On a secret, If you predict what ccp is going to nerf/buff next you won't ever have to play catch up. Next thing on that list is scouts/vehicles.

Switching to a medium frame amarr will only frustrate you when the nerf to scram rifles/medium frame comes down. Look at all the other things that have been nerfed, scout speed, shield logis, tac ar, fused locus, Flaylock, swarms. What out of that list is currently used? Stay ahead of the grind and don't fall into the trap.

Yes, infallible precision on installations and objectives is ridiculous. We can work around it and use it to our advantage.
Example 1
Shotty had brought up a map design issue in the research facility, where Letter is at the top of the stairs. Scout assaults on this Objective are madness, unless you trick them. There is two sweet routes in where you will not blip. Up the Vent at the back, and the far bridge by the stairs on the side opposite the CRU, though you need to jump off the bridge and over the opposite rail to not blip.

Also height mess people up, they see you but they have no idea what level you are on by the map play with them a bit and eventually they figure out you are not on the level they thinkGǪ and RE are waiting.

Example 2
It's a trap
RE the approaches to the Letter and start a hacking, when they come for you stop and boom. This really works well, just watch for our bastardly kin, they can slip buy sometimes
Also brush through the field of one precision sink, hightail it to your true objective. The enemy cannot match your speed.

If anyone is good at math i need some numbers run real quick.

Scout suit is 45 scan profile
Gallente bonus level 3 for 5% per level
Profile dampening 3 at 2% per level
Enhanced dampener at 20%

my numbers are coming out to 26.55 so I feel something is wrong. Considering thats well below proto scanners and i get scanned on occasion...

Yup. for skill 3/3, you need TWO damps.
Good news is, they can both be basic damps, so you can save CPU/PG for other stuff.

I will bug one of my friends for science today to see if I can actually knife from on top of the LAV
