Probably not far off, actually.
We had 229 registered Scouts at the end of 1.6. While these 229 may not meet your "full-time" criteria, they met my "most-of-the-time" criteria :-)
The vast majority of these guys I'd monitored for quite some time, and I suspect the vast majority of full time scouts were registered. But to be safe, let's assume that the Scout Registry only tracked 85% of Scouts.
A presumably small percentage of these 229 were still counted as Scout in error, as not everyone remembered to let us know when they opted out. Based on earlier observations (i.e. "oh yeah, I forget to tell you; I bailed"), I'd say 10% is a conservative estimate of false positives.
Exactly 60 (or 26.2%) of these 229 were purely inactive over 1.6 ... 26.2%. Another 26 (or 11%) of these 229 were statistically inactive over 1.6 (i.e. very low activity).
Max Population: 269 (229 / 0.85) Minus False Positives: 242 (10% discount) Minus Purely Inactive: 172 (26.2% discount) Minus Statistically Inactive: 142 (11% discount)
Caveat: This is a "quick" estimate. Since 1.6, some have announced retirement, some have switched from Scout, some have switched to Scout, some newcomers may have chosen scout (though the vast majority of newberry Scouts disappear). So I'd say +/- 10% margin of error.
Adjusted for error: 128 to 156 active mercs are Scouts. |

Trust me, getting them under is far more lucrative, if a little more difficult, than putting them on it's ass. lucrative? Did you mean effective? or perhaps "less likely for you to die"? :) btw, did you lay a trap for one to roll over, or did you still do the sneakup strategy? I find that laying a big-ol trap is great for idiot tankers that keep going through the same path repeatedly. Sadly, I see those types very rarely. Most ones I run into, are on the move almost all the time, and rarely use the same path twice.
The direct meaning of the word is more profitable, used in the sense that it works more often (I've found) Can be more likely to die.
The first one was when I was using a turret, I noticed the health start to drop so I got out of that thing. The tank, noticing this, starts shooting at me, I survive long enough to get behind a pile of pipes. I had nowhere to go afterward so I threw some RE's down ust where I got into the pipes. I taunted him to the point where he tried to jam his gun the opening, and KABOOM! One dead tank.
Another one was me watching the movements of a tank and noticed one particular area that he kept returning to.
I am part shovel, part man, full scout, and a little bit special.

I have to share this. I went 27/4 last night in my pistol/knives fit. Most kills were from the knives with a few pistol kills and a few re kills. It was pretty amazing as my corp mate and I were having a knife off that match, he went 11/2. |

That's pretty dang specific. Says Hugs inbound for Commando. Gives a specific build. Doesn't qualify with "we're aiming for" or "if all goes well" or "soon".
So ... if the dozen or so Commandos out there are finally getting attention, then maybe MAYBE, the 123 of us might too :-)

I will always believe that the Commando is better suited for scouts. We even have the black eagle.
I mean, think about what the commando is to the heavy. Higher speed, +1 equipment slot, dual light weapons... Even the name would be great for the scout. Instead of being called the Commandon't there'd be something extra for scouts.

If I recall, this depends on decimal rounding rules, and whether or not a tie favors the scanner or scanned. |

with pampening 5, scout ops 2 you need a complex dampener. with scout ops 5 and dampening 2 you need an enhanced dampener...which means you can't use it without AUR.
also, i'm pretty sure now that ties result in some margin of error

Would just like to know. Even though I dont have much to spend SP on I still like to invest the least possible needed in a skill. If I recall, one scenario came really close ... like .02 or something. So choosing Level II or III came down to how decimal rounding rules are handled, and whether or not a tie favors the scanner or scanned. Forgot the progression at hand. I love you, Brother, but I don't care to redo all the math :-)
No worries
Will go to Lv3 PD
Also on Precision - does it just allow you to see lower profile suits or do blip show brighter / last longer (going off SR's other post)? - If these things were readily known and better yet true then more people might invest in these skills and use the modules.

Precision is for lower profile suits. It has no effect on duration - if somebody is within your passive scan range then they will always be painted provided that you have sufficient precision. If active scanning, it will have no effect on duration of paint - there is a fixed time that scanners tag targets regardless of the profile rating. I am unsure as to how it affects brightness of dot.

no, just the usual.
the brighter/dimer is a very, very rare edge case. I described it in one of my detailed writeups months ago when Iwas doing research on field of vision and range for the FOV lightup effect.
From what I can remember, objects can appear dimmed out on your radar, when they are just BARELY on the edge of your range. We're talking about 1m distance from maximum range, if I recall. But if you highlight them by loking at them, they brighten up, and stay bright for 2 seconds after you arent looking at them any more. |

What are you basing this input on, Quil? You present with fact; you'd better be referencing actual research.

My weekly on going ded scout report. I just went above 8mil sp last night, It is nice feel, and getting there. Still a ded sniper, but... It is getting harder to be a sniper these days in Dust. It seems the sniper rifle / role of is being quietly nerf'd under the radar. So many things have digressed, all well documented by fellow, really good ded snipers.
Dropped into a sqirm match last night, 9 on my team, 5 on the opposition. Great Time! I was a Hacking fool running around willy nilly Mollerz style, it was fun.
I also encountered a new to me combo.... Heavy/ HMG/ Dropship. This guy pounded me every time I cloned in and ran for cover. Brutal. Brilliant. Snipers had no chance with this guy. Finally smarts kicked in and got out my BPO swarm launcher too out, and that abated Him from me for the rest of the match.
Scrambler Rifle. Yes. My new toy. Since my character has a glitch/ bug on my side arms (no auto reload when mag empties) and sniper nerfs, I need to broaden my horizons. I have "tried it before", but now I have a higher SP allocation, The Scrambler is very nice for me, with the scrambler pistol as a side. I can run willy nilly.
We need a scout party. thanks to all for support my bros and sis's. Looking forward to see you out on the field, and in chat.
