Just had to.. it was too damn easy! Listen! I hate using my OP Rail Rifle with Gallente Logi with boundless remote explosives, boundless proximity mines, allotek nanohive, and ishukone gauged dropuplinks with a 40m scan radius and 26 dB precision. It's so effective and not fun at all. Or my ishukone assault rail rifle with 3 damage mods that can 1v1 a proto heavy with proto HMG and kill him within 5m then run back and heal with those 70hp/sec rep hives.

I have to agree with the guys that have said they are in, or approaching, burn-out. I am in the same situation. I have only been logging on every few days, which is not the norm as typically I'm on every day goofing around solo or in squads.
I have to say that for me the only remaining fun in this game is squadding with my fellow scouts. I have had some excellent times with the scouts here and in Nos Nothi, and I always enjoy my games with Sargon, Llast, Ninja, etc....
I'm not really feeling it much these days. The game is still challenging, but the grind is kind of a pain and pointless and I've been working a lot so I haven't had much time anyway. Perhaps things will change with 1.8 but I'm not excited with the cloak coming out... I really wish CCP would have spent that effort on so many other things (PvP, player trading, fixing sprint/terrain bugs, refining TTK, etc....)
As for having a lot of SP. I get where Appia is coming from... I won't be speccing into a lot of suits and weapons because I dislike the clutter and distraction, but also because I don't want to be that responsible guy that fills the role needed. I'm a scout, it's what I do and that's because it's what I like.
Maybe I'll grab a few different scout suits but really I'm out of stuff to spend SP on. I got my 1 suit, my 1 weapon of choice, my core skills... all the rest is "meh" until faction gear, fighters, different ammo types or (SWEETNESS) speeder bikes get here.
And I wish CCP would stop doing the hare thing and start doing the tortoise thing when it comes to communication and community engagement. Just drop releases every month or 2 (plan for it, you can't tell me christmas and chinese new year snuck up on you....), be a presence on the forums (where many people can see after the fact what you have communicated) and stop with the no-info then a few dev blog stuff. Consistency & predictability man.... why is it so damn hard?

The dev blogs will come but at least one of them will be distinctly disappointing and at least one other will have very little actual new info - this is the way. Last time we were told there'd be dev blogs - we got one and it was so underwhelming I can't even remember what it was on. I'm not holding my breath to have my socks knocked off.
1.8 will change a lot of things in this game but the underlying game will still be the same. However, Fanfest sounds exciting. My entirely baseless speculation is that there will be something BIG happen with the Dust <> Eve link (that's why CCP FoxFour has gone Eve side lately). What this will be, I couldn't speculate much further - it's going to be "hands on" at FF, so I doubt it'll be trade/manufacture/economy related, so perhaps it's PVE finally? We know they had it at least half done when they showed those drones in the trailer so many months ago, so not entirely out of the question - other than that, I really can't imagine much else that would be 'groundbreaking'.
As for PC - I've done a fair few, not a lot but probably once or twice a month for the past 7 months or so. It is fun but it can be very frustrating. My role as a scout is always to be on the outer objectives, usually the enemy home point. I get an uplink somewhere nearby nicely hidden and wait for opportunities to run in for a quik 3 second codebreaker hack, plant REs (that are almost always fluxed because PC players mostly aren't dumb) and get out to hide again. Often there'll be a tank nearby guarding but ever since we got sticky explosives, HAV guards have been somewhat of a gift for me :) Sometimes I'll be left on my own for more or less the entire match but sometimes a few red dots will come to take it back and I'll sneak up on them and pistol to the back of the skull but on other occasions they send half the team and I just have to bug out.
The biggest problem though, is that I'm one guy on one objective and even if I do my job well, I'm still reliant on the rest of the team to actually take the city and/or hold our home point. It can get boring and extremely frustrating knowing that I can have an impeccable match but still lose, even though I know my team should be good enough if I've held a point solo for an entire match. But meh, such is the way of dust, I suppose. I still enjoy it most of the time anyway, especially when I can see the enemy searching around for me and I'm just hiding round the corner watching them ^_^

Some of us were discussing the asymmetry between precision vs profile that will be in place for scouts come 1.8. Does what I say here make sense?
Driftoward wrote:Hell, even a 5 point bonus (->40 dB) would help out the scanning situation.
That way it would scale such that with 1 complex precision enh would allow a cal scout to pick up a non-gal scout with 1 complex damp (uncloaked) or an undampened cloaked non-gal scout.
That's still seems a little messed up to me that you would still need to add modules to the best passive scanning suit in the game, but that would be a conservative change.
Dropping the scan precision (of all scouts) to 35 dB would be ideal in my opinion. The way that precision enhancers are set up with complex giving a -20% bonus allows complex dampeners to outstrip them after stacking.
As such, a gallente scout will still beat the caldari scout (in terms of passive scanning) with the addition of 1 complex damp (vs 1 complex precision) though without dampeners the 2 will be ~equal in terms of profile damp (gal) v. precision (cal).
This would continue with the incremental increase in the dampeners and precision enhancer modules used. ____Gal Scout____I____Cal Scout_____I____Generic Scout precision___ 0 damp = 23.6 dB__I__0 prec = 23.6 dB__I__0 prec/damp = 31.5 / 31.5 dB 1 damp = 17.7 dB__I__1 prec = 18.9 dB__I__1 prec/damp = 25.2 / 23.6 dB 2 damp = 13.3 dB__I__2 prec = 15.6 dB__I__2 prec/damp = 20.8 / 17.7 dB
Also, this doesn't take into account the cloaking bonus. That essentially adds one complex damp to anyone using it (while activated) Thus, an undampened scout will still be picked up by a cal scout while cloaked (probably, ~equal profile/precision) but if they run an additional dampener then they hit 17.7 dB and require a cal scout to use at least 2 precision modules.
Gallente scout is still mostly invisible regardless of situation but can be picked up with 1-3 stacked precision modules depending on how damped they are.
Also, this allows *other* non-cal scouts to have some semblance of tac-net vision of other scouts. They have to sacrifice a fair amount of fitting (ie at least 1 module if not 2 to be effective) to scan other scouts but aren't as effective at that role as the caldari scout. Thus, we have a counter for dampened scouts as well as a partial counter to the *invisibility* of gal scouts.
Thoughts? Worthy of a feedback thread? |

Hell, there was a training match a while ago that my corp had against RND, and demzor went 26/10 killing **** in the city the entire time. nickmunson from Capital Acquisitions LLC. is deadly when he's running around, dropping REs all over the place.
I don't know why anyone would put a Scout on an outside objective (usually, to take an enemy homepoint, a 2-4 man squad would be sent, maybe with a tank or two) but if you were able to hold it all match, then good job. O_O
I was in a PC yesterday against What the French, and I was able to hold homepoint all match, even if Imnuto was the only person trying to take it.

I'm not so much use in the city as I don't shotgun and it's always swarming with so many reds that I'm downed in seconds wherever I go, though I do occasionally foray into C on the gal research facility if the team is having troubles and I'm bored at D. It's easy for me at D usually because enemies just hack it at the start and then forget about it while they battle over control of the city. At most there'll sometimes be a tank and if the reds get annoyed enough by me, I'll be dragging a handful of players away from the city battle - in which case I've done my job even better by pulling forces away from the main battle (unfortunately the team often sucks in the city battles, so even my distraction's not always enough).
I've never really been much of a killer scout - my thing is sneaky speed hacks and distraction as well as HAV sabotage.

1) It is a nuisance at best. Just because someone got a kill doesn't mean it was helpful to the team. There are plenty of people that just protect their KDR in matches by going for anyone they think they can get, rather than selecting more valuable targets. He doesn't do that. It's what I mean when I keep calling out people a being "nuisances." They get kills, but those kills aren't significant to affect the flow of the battlefield.
2) It has been the same map, in the same location every time. ho-ho! Congrats, a single map is acceptable to use but only if you are the attacker.
3) Thale's. . . That's complete bullshit that you need an officer weapon to be competitive. Despite my infamy as a sniper came about when my Scout gk.0 was the only suit I had and I primarily used the Ishukone Sniper Rifle and I kept up with the likes of Minmatar Assaults,Amarr Logistics, and Caldari Logistics snipers with Thale's and multiple damage mods.
4) The weapon doesn't even work without damage mods.

This is funny, not even in the PC context but it reminds me of something i used to do awhile ago. Toss down an RE in certain places in some mapsGǪ And when I see such and such, sniped someone i would detonateGǪ go a kill virtually every time Same spots people go to all the time for sniping.

Snipers only see to be noticeable when 1 team is being stomped by the other. Only one occasion did a sniper really help the team win the pc. They had uplinks all over the Mushroom over watching the objective, dropships were a no go (kept getting shotdown before they hit the ground). One guy switched to a sniper and started popping reds left and right off the mushroom. Helping us hack the objective they had easy overwatch on. They only switched to a sniper for that couple minute span though. So yeah most snipers are just a lil annoying at the moment.
Had some fun playing against u guys yesterday. Couldn't really get near the objective without having to watchin my back. So everytime I saw some1 I tried to make sure they died to take away that whole...me getting shot in the back thing XD. GGs to ya all I lost, but had some fun trying to hunt u guys down.

Hey Monk, Llast and I had some fun matches last night. Although there was one with proto scanners (not meta 9). We chased a rail tanker away with our NK. (& RE) It always makes me laugh when tankers panic against scouts.
I haven't passed the SP cap yet, so I'll be playing later tonight. It's the last day for Operation Maul-The-Fatties. I haven't used a Heavy suit during this event. Didn't keep track of my kills, but doubt I reached the bonus SP cap.

Lately I've been heading back to my "Arbiter" roots, sadly the difference between a BPO sniper and the Ishukone isn't all that noticable on a scout suit. That being said I am really enjoying sneaking around with a sniper rifle and a SMG, I'll admit that am I no where near as effective at denying an area in that fit compared to a lolLogi with multiple damage mods and either a Charged or a Thale's.
My main fit is still scout+shotgun but on some maps it really isn't all that bad to run a scout+sniper, at least when compared to running with a shotty. Besides that it's only PUBs so who cares? Main point is to have fun while playing and maybe earn some ISK, no?
