i used to think the logi for uplinks thing.. until I noticed that the ADV uplinks let you have more than 1 active at a time. SO, I use those, drop 2, remember where I put them... then usually by the time I die, one of them has been cleared, so I just drop another one, or two as need be. As far as maps go... Some maps are more scout-friendly than others. However, I think that all maps have places where scouts can shine. it just so happens that each map requires different techniques. Some maps are mostly city, so, you know.. do the sneaky thing around corners :) Some maps are a mix, so you can select the most appropriate objective to defend, or something. Some maps are spread widely apart, which means it's terrible when your team suddenly loses all spawn points on the other side of it. Particulary when there is insanely good proto AV or something on the other team... unless there's a fast, sneaky, patient scout who can run around the "long way", and go drop an uplink behind enemy lines. There's almost always some "long way" that isnt being watched. If you can drop TWO instead of just one, then it's even better.
ADV uplinks? ugh, though I do use them in ambush to reduce the cost of the fitting and since all uplinks are reduced to 3sec in ambush they're as good as PRO ones. In ambush that is.
If you use a scout suit, and only a scout suit, and uplinks in PC you need a few different version of the same suit since you'll want to alternate between uplinks - and if you want to have a shotty version (not much lag) and a smg version (sort of lag resistant) you'll end up with double the amount of fittings. (So many stupid fits of the same thing clogging up my fittings window :/ )
Now the gal.logi suit on the other hand can fit 3 PRO uplinks on a standard suit, making it really easy to get those uplinks out in PUB matches. I kind of hope that they nerf the uplinks by setting a 'personal roof' on how many you can have out -> you put down 3 gauged and then 1 flux one of the gauged disappears... oh yes I would very much like that.
You are right about the maps, the PC maps are a lot better for scouts than the majority of the PUB maps, and game modes, are. I guess it comes down to familiarity with the maps (and the role you play on them), since I've been enjoying flying dropships and tanking I guess I've just avoided playing scout on maps that are unkind to scouts.
One thing I am certain about; I will in no way miss invisible swarms and 2HKs from railtanks while in a DS / ADS.
I really like the new maps and kind of like the PC maps, in that order. The rest of the maps not so much. Do the rest of you scouts feel the same way about the maps or am I missing out on some awesome scout stuff on the old maps?

The only map I really don't like is ambush on the new one with the bridge (objective A is on that bridge in skirmish mode). It's a really tight ambush map, with pretty much all the action crammed together in that narrow bridge. Precious few flanking opportunities, except for running under the bridge to the other end. By the time I get there, the enemy's position has usually shifted so much that my flanking efforts are fruitless. I get absolutely slaughtered 9/10 times on that map.
Other than that, I guess my most common main weapon, the scrambler rifle, allows me to make good use of the terrain and buildings in most maps. Although I definitely prefer proper city maps after I've started running more with SMGs and NKs. |

I am okay with the bridge map. While flanking takes time, no one ever expects it.
The maps I dislike are Manus Peak and Line Harvest. Manus has too few objectives to properly divide the enemies attention which makes sneaking to null canon an incredible pain. If I see I'm about to play on Manus, I use a sniper fit and head to the mountains. Line Harvest can provide some good fun and there are plenty of methods to flank but the objectives are too close and the towers offer too good of a view for snipers and forge gunners. In other words, Line Harvest can offer some fun games but more often leads to the worst stomps.

As stated by the man himself "its been six months with little to no effect" So I imagine Shotty won't been seen on the forums come Dec 9th. You are only likely to find him in game, if at all.

So Ishukones would deal 400 damage at full charge.

Line Harvest can provide some good fun and there are plenty of methods to flank but the objectives are too close and the towers offer too good of a view for snipers and forge gunners. In other words, Line Harvest can offer some fun games but more often leads to the worst stomps.
The Maps: Line Harvest, Manus Peak, Ashland, Skim Junction, Iron Delta, Spine Crescent, Fractured Road, Border Gulch and Impact Ridge
Line Harvest is one of my favorite: it is small, has many places for cover, has lots of elevated areas to consider 3-D movement without a drop ship and has places for DS movement. Ambush or Skirmish I can use my shotgun, sniper rifle, or Scrambler Rifle to full effect.
Ashland: My Chromosome favorite for ambush. The many changes in Uprising have taken away the ambush-sniper role (December to April I was exclusively a scout-sniper before I ever picked up a second Light Weapon or second suit). And the change in Ambush vs OMS has made shotguns less effective on that map. Still I like it and enjoy playing on it, skirmish is still fun. The 3-D playing field without the need of a Dropship exists here too.
Manus Peak: Love this map. Ambush or Skirmish. Plenty of places to sniper from, and there is enough cover to run around on the map with a shotgun. I really wish they would bring back the Peak in Manus Peak. I've had some epic battles up there. This was the map that taught me to use REs as a Sniper's sidearm. Manus Peak is the only map I feel I can still be effective on in a speed suit.
Skim Junction. The original City Map. For the longest time I thought this was 3 different maps. Ambush, as long as it is in the city I like it. So I'll leave room to mention the outposts individually later. I hate the outside. The redline/starting point are just too far back. It invalidates my sprint suit that I use to run to an objective first. And Ambush outside is awful. too much open ground without cover.
Iron Delta. There is just too much open ground between the outpost and the outside points. Made worse by the bottleneck you are forced through to get to them. Expanding the map to be a square rather than a plus sign shape would greatly improve how much I like this map.
Spine Crescent. the first of 2 bridge maps. btw, both bridge maps have [A] on the bridges. Hate it. I hate it so much. The outpost on this map needs to be about 100m closer to the birdge. It's too big and there is no cover between the outpost and the outside objectives. Then, all of the objectives are on the outside while the birdge has high walls surrounding it, and bars atop it. On the other hand, the original surface infrastructure made it possible to be a sniper on this map. new SI make it bad.
Fractured Road: This is the map that made me give up my shotgun, my sniper rifle, and my scout suit. THIS MAP. It is too big. It is 1400m from one red line to another. The infrastructures where the points are at are fine, but the distance between them is twice as long as it should be. Then, there is a hill that leaves you wide-open to AR/ScR/LR fire. There is no effective place to snipe. Though a Forge Gun can cover [A] and [D] from the pipeline and a sniper can cover [D] from the pipeline. every battle vehicle quota is reached because it is too far from 1 point to another.
Boarder Gulch: The new bridge map. Ambush has 2 section. I hate them both. Skirmish is a load of crap as well. Again as with FR, the map is too big and will have vehicle quota reached nearly all the time. This distance from staring spawnt to the first point is too far. I can camp a point with a shotgun, but I can't freely move around the map without finding some large area with 0 cover. But that open area is only subject to AR/ScR/LR fire. There is no place to effectively snipe on this map either.
Impact Ridge. The 4 point Gallente Research Facility. Hey look, another map that is too big. Again, vehicles are a necessity here if you want to move from one objective to the next. Despite the lag-tastic city I do like that. But the same with the other 2, large open spaces that are subject to AR/ScR/LR fire and no effective places for a sniper to go.
Outposts; Biomass: This one is my favorite, hands down. I can sniper here, I can shotgun here, I can play a Scout effectively. Downside is that the objective used for Domination can be camped from a large variety of locations. 2 levels of the center building and one of the resource extraction towers.

Orbital Artillery: Hate this one. I hate this outpost almost as much as I hate Domination in its entirety. combat happens on a completely 2-D level, which it is for all installations, but there are elevation changes giving a mass driver in this map total domination.
Communications: This is my favorite of the installations. If they ever fixed Z-Fighting/culling/rendering issues this map would return to being the awesome sniper map. As it stands, on ambush or skirmish running around with a shotgun is a blast. Stealth is so fun. lots of cover, and secretly there is room for 3-D movements as most of the walls can be climbed upon by a scout and even medium frames in some locations.
Gal-laG Facility. Yeah, lag and frame-rate drop here is spectacular in the worst of ways. There are some problems with a lot of areas, and there is no where to snipe. 3 point version, so this outpost on Skim Junction is the best. No sniping but excellent use of a shotgun and stealth suits. If we could get that change to remove 0dB installation scanning this would be a shotgun scout's paradise. I also have fun with my Imperial ScR. Only complaint about Ambush here is my complaint with ambush everywhere: spawning mechanics are horrible.
All of these maps and installations, I only play on Skirmish (pub skirm, FW, PC) or Ambush. I hate Domination. I will leave battle and leave squad if I ever see a domination match pop up. Very few exceptions exist where I will stay for a domination match, but if i do stay, I'm MCC camping.

So the Devs take note of a random MedFrame's opinion of what would help Scouts? We've been offering input and advice for how many months? And this is the sh*t that catches their eye?
*** SHAKES FRECKLED GINGER FISTS ***
We've had this debate already, but I'll reiterate ... this is a MedFrame buff, not a Scout buff, and it'll make sneaking up on targets even more difficult.
Even without squad-sight, I routinely have allies firing ARs over my shoulder. It is a mother-kitting fact that folks don't give a rat's a*s if they get us killed while trying to sneak up on people.
