Except for scouts, except since it isn't shared with the squad, it's not so useful (scouts being squishy etc)
If scouts could share scan results with their squad, then
1. it would encourage them to fit range extenders and/or precision amps in some situations (up from 'never') 2. They would find a role separate from 'lolscouts just use active scanner', since they don't let reds know they turned up on scan 3. They would reclaim the equipment slot that may have been an active scanner 4. scout suits actually have a scouting bonus
Discuss. So the Devs take note of a random MedFrame's opinion of what would help Scouts? We've been offering input and advice for how many months? And this is the sh*t that catches their eye? *** SHAKES FRECKLED GINGER FISTS *** If I want to share what I see, I'll run an Active Scanner. We've had this debate already, but I'll reiterate ... this is a MedFrame buff, not a Scout buff, and it'll make sneaking up on targets even more difficult. Folks don't give a rat's a*s if they get us killed by alerting those we're trying to sneak up behind. When folks see red they fire. Shared Sight is bad news for those of us who sneak up from behind our targets. this is not shared squad vision for med frame, it is for scouts. If your flanking behind the reds, and your squad initiates fire from the front, it would help you sneak up on the red dot easier. The discussion is squad, so if you don't trust those you squad with, you have bigger issues to worry about.

I'm telling you guys, CCP's gonna make one tiny adjustment at a time. When that adjustment comes, do you want something to make us better? Or do you want a "buff" you can use to support your MedFrame squadmates?
After sucking this hard for this long, I'm not in a particularly giving mood.
Sam - I understand where you're coming from, but its in our best interest to treat changes to the Scout as though they'll be the very last. The last thing we need is a MedFrame theorizing for us as to what buff would be best. If we let that happen, we'll end up with quid-pro-quo bullish like this idea. Something that benefits them as much as us. And certainly not something that'd make us better at killing or surviving. Consider the MedFrame position on Cloak:
"Yeah Scouts need a cloak to be viable, but if Scouts get Cloak I should also get Cloak, because fairness and lore." |

Before coming in to work today, I was finally able to experience a game where I felt truly useful as a scout.
First, I was able to take objective D, in a four-objective tied skirmish, and hold it by myself long enough to give our team enough margin for victory. All the while going 2 on 1 and a couple very determined reds, and taking them both out on at least 2 of their takeover attempts, while the rest of my team was in the city. (On a side note, they couldn't have been that good, as I was able to RE them twice while they hacked the objective. You think they would have learned the first time...)
THEN I was actually smart enough, for once, to realize when I could no longer hold the objective, and ran back into the city to have some fun. Just in time to see a red tank sitting in the middle of the street, trying its hardest to shoot up one of my blueberry friends. Unfortunately for the 2 reds in the tank, they didn't notice me placing two REs next to the tank, and manged to blow them up WITHOUT blowing myself up in the process. For once.
Lastly, as my final act of scout defiance, I put an SMG into the back of a red half a second before victory. I went 13/6 and was 4th in the standings.
I cannot WAIT til this suit is fixed and the playing field is leveled so I can hear all these Med frame AR motherfrackers whine and complain when they realize that all this time CCP was subsidizing their lack of skill and tactics with poor balance, and that all CCP did was create a minority of players with superior skills and battlefield intelligence by stacking the odds against them for so long.
It will be a beautiful day my brothers and sisters.

While I originally supported the idea of allowing scouts to share their passive scan results with their squad, I've realized that it is a bad idea. It would be OP for the same reason the scanner is now--It provides a constant feed of enemy locations. Should the scanner ever get nerfed (and it sorely needs one), scouts would become the new scanner. It's alright for a single scout to have a constant feed since we pay dearly for it. However, giving us shared passive scan would make that irrelevant since we would always have a squad to back us up and keep us on our feet while also ensuring the only effective tactics are simple straightforward advances.

The most common player with a scanner is a logi, mass hps with rep hives. This player takes serious work to take down. Now look at the scout. Little hps , sneeze and dies. This is high risk for the high reward. This cannot be op since it is so easily countered.

I really need to squad up from the Scouts United channel more often. But there aren't that many people that run squads. And being in 4 major corporations I've made a lot of friends that I want to squad up with because "I haven't seen you in a month" is a common occurrence. I could start a squad, but I get squad invites before I finish loading in nine times out of ten Another problem with finding new people to squad with is, the moment I hear people using sexist and/or homophbic slurs constantly I'm usually leaving that squad pretty fast. Which really limits the number of people I play with in this game. Hearing someone's music in the background through their mics gives me a headache and pisses me off pretty bad- that may or may not have something to do with the induced headache.
The above has already caused me to black-list quite a few Scouts.
Best Squad ever: Shotty, DoubleTap, Zan, N'Rante (non scout), me, and "Jeremy" . . . some random we picked up with a strange name so we called him something like that.

As for sharing our passive scans ... ugh. I only like the idea if it's going to upset a lot of the medium frames who run active scanners.
Otherwise ... no. Last thing I want to is have a conga line following me around the map. I see it being a benefit to the other guys more than the scouts, and I think they have all the crutches they need at this point, thanks. |

What? I do it all the time.
Just last week, in manus peak, there was some ******* crouching under the bigugly 4-legged tower socket or something, about 60m in?
I contemplated switching to sniper, but I thought... "ya know.. a pistol to the back of the head would be SOO much more satisfying" So I did that instead. Ran right up next to him, and "blam!" betcha he was pissed :D
Wait.. did you want to also get OUT of redlne alive?
Are you a scout, or arent you? How are you expecting to stay alive, AND play scout???

CPM, Paraphrased: "More people use the ScR now, so there's naturally more QQ ... its not OP ... nothing changed."
Fact: The ScR changed from dangerous in 1.5 to insta-killer in 1.6. Perhaps an inadvertent result of performance improvement or other mechanical change ... dunno, don't care, but something changed. We called it in the first hours of 1.6's release. This change, whatever it was, is the reason why more people are using the ScR this build.
Would someone kindly let him know he is wrong? Preferably, someone who isn't an ScR advocate. Be gentle. Please and thank you. :-) |

Here's the official reasoning: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1565670#post1565670
But for you, Spademan, I'll be more candid: * Six months of being broken and pointing out why. * Six months of role-specific, expert input from you guys. * Six months of distilled, constructive feedback. * Six months of "hang in there, guys ... help is on the way." * Six months of biggest and best SOS these Fine Forums have ever seen.
What do we have to show for the past 6 months? * Harder Hard Mode (nerf, nerf, nerf). * Easier EZ Mode (buff, buff, buff). * We're still a non-priority. * We appear to be moving in the wrong direction. |

Like Iggy said, the only reason I came to the Forums was because CCP broke my Suit and Gun with Uprising. The Scout Registry was created as my way of asking for help. Figured this would be better than posting QQ and trying to reason with the Forum Warriors. Six months later, I realize I've probably done more harm than good. Let me explain: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1574830#post1574830So ... good idea gone bad ... my fault, guys. As much as it stings, shutting down our project here might just catch CCP's attention. If not, at least we gave it our best effort and won't be wasting any more time. Time to move on and hope for the best.
Hard to argue with that, though I doubt you did much harm, after all, you've gone and created a fairly sizable community of players who can and often will help eachother out, I'd hardly call that a failure, even if it wasn't your intended goal.

Perhaps an inadvertent result of performance improvement or other mechanical change ... dunno, don't care, but something drastic changed. We called it in the first hours of 1.6's release. The change of the scrambler operation skill. It use to decrease your charged shot time from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds at lvl 5 operations which had no affect on the AScR, now it reduces heat build up allowing you to get more shots off before it over heats. I think this change took place around the 1.5 patch, this operations change combined with the 1.6 hit detection is the main issue.
Prior to the 1.5 patch I use to get one charged shot and two follow up shots off before over heating, I would have to check how many shots I'd get off after a charged shot before over heating cause I cant remember but I know its quite a few more. Note this is without using an Amarr assault suit.

I work in games analytics and there's a specific type of person we keep an eye out for who is very important, especially in games where social mechanics play a big part - lynchpins. These are people who may not even do a whole lot in game but they are social magnets and have a huge number of players gravitating towards and orbiting around them. If these players end up leaving the game (or social scene), particularly for reasons of neglect or victimisation (intended or otherwise), it usually has a massively detrimental effect on the playerbase.
Shotty is most certainly a big lynchpin and if CCP is properly paying attention (to forum analytics especially), his closure of the registry will definitely not go unnoticed. For all the effort and time he has put in to this thread, this closure could be the one thing that finally gets urgent attention.

You've done awesome on this thread shotty. I could relate to the bitter vet now. LOL
But I think I am officially retired from scout now. haven't played this game in a long bit.
*you stopped being a scout? The last of the ninja cowboys?*
Ok.. maybe not retired from scout. But it's funny tho, that I was always the AS and HMG guy in many fps games. I became good as a scout in this game. Fps experience rolls over, so I became good as a recon in BF3.
And now in KZ I'm still good as a scout there.
This is what scout are... we are damn cool. for every kill we make, a girl is overcome with blush. with every near death we escape it brings her to a sudden gush. when a tear falls down a ladies cheek, its cause one of us has fallen, to forever sleep.

Using advanced Gal scout
CRG-3 sg Toxin SMG Complex light dmg basic extender complex kin kat basic plate flux nade adv scanner a19
Took objective C on some skirm match and 3 guys refused to stop coming in. Between scanning them long range and my passive i just ran around the point, jumped behind them, hid around corners.... it was great. Best kill streak of 14. They brought some friends next time and finally took me out, but 2 of my blueberries joined the fraw when i respawned and we took it back.
So epic when the sg works right. but the real difference? KIN KATS!!!! just got complex last thursday and theres just no comparison. They are required for my style of sg flanking nonsense.
Edit: This was Solo, no squad.... the team wasnt super either, though two guys STILL got more wp then I... go figure |
