Ive been reading the guys books since I was in grade school. Something about the detail he provides is nice. Currently reading 11/22/63, which is about a dude thats trying to change the JFK assassination. Pretty good so far.
Some of his writing is really over the top, but I did really enjoy all the DT series, but I read them about 10 years ago, so I hardly remember the plot.
Lastly, I haven't seen any ps3 beta codes. Sadly I signed up and they said I wasn't eligible for some reason, oh well. I likely won't be buying it on ps3 anyway. I have an extra US ps3 code if you want it Iggy. Can i has it? I really really would like one Mail me in dust or on psn and I will get it to you.

I'm not yet sure which group to put D in, but it does not strike me as an "unforgettable combat experience". If I'm going to play a shooter, I'd much prefer to play one that keeps me immersed and on my toes. Give me weapon sway and gore, damn it, and give me a f*cking challenge.
Uninspired * Combat * Gunplay * Graphics * Voice Acting * Sound Effects * Enemy AI
Top Notch * Music * Lighting * Controls * Environments * Interstitials / Menus * Marketing / Branding
I've yet to try out the multiplayer, but I honestly don't see this game competing directly with Dust/Legion. These games are two totally different creatures delivering two totally different experiences. Mustard doesn't compete with Ketchup. Not on my hotdogs at least.
Yeah. The fun wore off after 8 hours. . . 2 PVP maps and only control points combat (maybe others can be unlocked but I'm not playing it long enough to find out). Explore is fun... until you reach the level cap. I'd really like to play with my friends. . . only you have to be PSN Friends with them or at least know their PSN name. That's just stupid because of how limiting it is. It makes it hard to reach out and get new or random people to join up and become friends with them. level cap of 8 is disappointing. maybe it will increase after the 23rd? Maybe I'll get the warlock and titan up to 8 too but I think I'm done with the beta

Seems like those holding off ps4 is few and far between even among us bastards. But only one game for next gen us out right now worth buying IMO. Nintendo is more appealing.....and that's saying something

What would everyone think of making Gal scout slot layout std 2h 2l adv 2h 3l proto 2h 4l Gal scout at std lvl with 3 low slots and bonus to profile makes it the only std scout that can easily avoid proto lvl scans. with this slot layout at std lvl a gal scout would have to run a proto cloak with 2x cDampeners making it still visible to scan when not cloaked balancing it better with the other scouts at std level. All other scouts will still be able to avoid the gal 21db precision with its 2h slots at std.
Or leave it the way it is so it is the only std lvl scout suit that can avoid proto lvl scans 100% of the time. |

My 2ISK on Destiny.
The good: Amazing polish, controls are tight and feel weighty, including the weapons. Has a sniper I can quick scope with, didn't realise how much I'd missed that. Melee feels punishing. All round really well put togther and beautifully executed game. Storyline is intruiging and the world well fleshed out. Need a bit more time to get the muscle memory into play before I try PVP, but the PVE world is extensive and really well done. Enjoying the random events, some of them have been quite fun.
The bad: Unless things change up with the different specialisations, the hunter doesn't feel like a hunter, it feels like a slayer. Haven't tried the Titan or the Warlock yet, but I expect they'll be the same. It's a straight DPS game, and your choices really come down to how you chose to slay. Battle approaches are very limited and stealth play doesn't exist.
Once again, only level 4, but so far there hasn't been anything that has really tested me. So far I've taken down everything solo (including groups of mobs 4 levels above me), and have rearly been in danger at all. May change at later levels, but unless they ramp up the AI there isn't much to the challenges.
MMO gear treadmill. I don't need carrots to play a game, I need gameplay. Hopefully it all equalises out at level 20 (kind of like Guild Wars 1 did), but I'm already finding chasing down new weapons to be annoying.
Overall: I'll more than likely keep playing it once it goes live. There's a lot to it, and it will only grow over time. I don't think it will be a game that keeps me from playing other games though. More something that I can keep going back to in-between other games.
In anycase, will see how it goes.
Oh, and not being able to name your toons, do not like. I'll be on as PusEWillow.

I think a lot of people are jumping into Destiny expecting it to be something that it's not.
I was in the Alpha so I probably have different expectations to most.
It is not a better version of Dust. Their only relation is they're sci-fi shooters. It took me a while to adapt, and my initial reaction was a negative one as well, but over time I grew to enjoy it more and more.
At its core it's PvE and exploration. My favourite part of the Alpha was grabbing my trusty rifle and just wandering the wastelands, finding random ****, getting lost and having no idea where I was, having to use a distant building on the horizon (where I started) to get my bearings.
I've just gotten home so I'm still DLing the Beta so I'm not sure what's in it yet. But by the sounds of things it's a fraction of the total game.
If the story mission is the one from the Alpha there's rumours that it's not actually a story mission from the full game, it's just something they quickly threw together as an "e.g." mission example. Hence the kinda lame quality.
Visually it's almost certainly going to be massively better on PS4. Sony has gotten themselves an arrangement with Bungie and they will likely try to use it to sell consoles. Not dissimilar to the arrangement with 360 and CoD.
When you see a Destiny trailer expect to see a PS4 logo at the end.
PvP was pretty silly fun. But like most shooters there's no real issue to dying, no ISK loss or equivalent.
Destiny is not really trying to do anything exceptionally new, just trying to be the best at genres that already exist (Borderlands/Halo/WoW) and blend them together.
And keep in mind, this is a beta, there will be patches etc with the feedback they get.
Though I hesitate to say they have a "10 year plan" considering blue tags are hanging around :P

*Appia walks into her merc quarters and notices a beautifully hand-crafted, brushed steel container sitting on the central console*
*She looks at the engraving on the side: a scene depicting the burning wreckage of a tank and the silhouette of a person running away*
*As she runs her hand over the engraving, the container pops open slightly with a soft expelling of air*
*Raising the lid, a pair of knives can be seen resting on a velvet cushion, their blades a strange dull hue*
*She grasps the handle of one and, raising it in front of her face, pushes the sprung switch to the "on" position*

I saw jolly's videos of PVP and trailer. Only the unbalanced weapons, I did not expect.
I saw you talk about exploration, got what I expected only the total size of old-russia is actually pretty small and I do not know how you got lost. I do know, however, is that the maps are littered with mini-bosses that you need a fireteam for. That is something I want to go do, get 2 people to join Exploration and hunt them all down. I think I've found 4 of them so far.
From the start I expected a borderlands/eldar scrolls hybrid. That's what I got.
What I did not expect was for them to use FFX|V's Tome system, where you have to grind out special resources to trade in for "epic" gear.
Destiny isn't competing with DUST for shared space, it's competing with DUST for people's free time.
Also, After I hit the level cap last night and did a bunch of mission and bought a new ship, I went back to DUST. I ended up melee'ing people because of how effective it is in destiny. Also I Somehow actually survived just charging into a crown got 5 kill steak of just "Appia Vibbia (IshNoKs), Appia Vibbia (IshNoKs), got interrupted then got 3 more kills before someone spawned in behind me and finally noticed

After getting some proper playtime in, I can now give a bit more of a review.
What I expected was an exploration game. Where you could travel the vast wastelands of earth, discovering what happened whilst fighting off the new, monstrous inhabitants of the land. I don't feel that I really got any of that.
Story: It started off promising, but then turned into "Generic SciFi stuff happens because space" Gameplay: Decent, nothing special. A bit too slow for me. Weapons: Some pretty interesting stuff, like the Fusion Rifle and Pulse Rifle. Only problem is Handcannon A is the same as Handcannon B, only B does more damage. There's almost no reason not to use the latest weapon you get. PvP: Don't bother. Seriously. Bad mode is bad. Bad level design is bad. Bad pvp is just bad.
Level cap is 8. Kinda disappointed at that, especially since I've found a bunch of stuff for level 10 and upwards. It doesn't feel like there's anything [i[too[/i] explore. Everything's just there. There's no feeling of vastness, 10-ish people are just shoved into the same small instance. Maybe the full version will be better, I don't know, but I don't expect much to change in 2 months.
Final Verdict: 6/10. 80% Underwhelming, 20% as expected, 0% pleasantly surprised. I cannot justify spending any more then maybe Gé¼20 if I were to buy it.

Culture lesson time. The fourth Thursday of Novemeber in the US is Thanksgiving. Were we make up a bunch of crap and pretend Quakers were Protestants, that whities didn't just take aboriginal's land, and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't make sense. However the day following is "Black Friday," which because of online-sales has now become an international thing. Black Friday signifies the start of christmas shopping, because all holidays in the US revolve around marketing. So on Black Friday, companies want to make as much profit as possible so they have amazing sales. Destiny is my top choice for things to buy this year on Black Friday. almost postitive it will drop from $60 USD to about $20 USD. So instead of September 9th, I'll start plaing it 2 months later.

My problem with it- it's too forgiving. Another problem is the PVP is not there.. yet? Crucible matches are too small and dosjointed to make any sens eo fit. There's no feeling of rivalry or glory. Plus, I am just plain not good at it yet.
However, we started playing PVE missions on hard mode.. and wow. We had a blast. It would take like 30 minutes to fight off a boss and all his minions. And there were times of awesome team tactics, nail biters, and tension.
I don't know about on the PS3- but on the PS4 the combat is very visceral in PVE. The knife combat is sweet in that regard, and certainly dust has me trained well. the ugly and I were making our fireteam third laugh... he was like **** knives. then he saw me take out a string of tough baddies shanking them like this guy. The knife sticks and hits just right. IF you challenge an enemy to a knife fight, they knife fight you.. my jaw dropped at that. The knife fights I had with AI were vicious and fun. the physics are spectacular. the gun play is tight, quick, and spot on. Running is well done :D.. no sprint bugs. Also, the enemy AI was extremely impressive on hard mode. We'd have to fight off getting flanked.. stronger bosses would chase us down. We'd have one guy fighting for his life trying to rez one of us, or running and surviving. It was hard to fool the AI, or lead it into traps- unless it was chasing one of us. the sound f/x was awesome as well.. but i'd like to turn the music down/off. I have a machine gun tha tis just awesome. It is only good at shotgun range, has a high ROF, and a 96 cap mag. so fun
The beta is extremely small compared to what they developed/have planned. I think part of what exacerbates the smallness of the beta is the cross platform development. Devs need to just make the leap and leave the PS3/x360 behind. You wouldn't need to have level loading so much then. But regardless- the fact they included the PS3/x360 into this is very impressive. For a beta (and even the alpha was the same) it is smooth, well thought out, and high quality. I ran into about zero bugs that I could tell. No lag, no ****** up nonsense bugs. It's a game starting with a clean slate, not one where I have the same bugs I had over a year ago greeting me and crippling my gameplay every single match.
Dust is 4 levels. maybe 5? There is no sandbox. Dust knifing is superior- even buggy, but dust is just an archaic game to me, unfunded, and woefully under supported by a big enough dev team. I like the grittiness of the lore. I love the mature ideals and that it is intended to be an M rated game. I wish dust was more than it is, and I honestly, thought dust would be as well along as destiny is by now. It just never happened, and won't happen. Dust is a different game, but it won't ever be the game it was supposed to be either. So I am moving one with the world, but will play it for the knifing along the way as well. At least dust brought a cool community together, which is the only reason I turn my PS3 on anymore. Even though CCP accomplished this social community, they have no idea what to do with that success. I do like the CCP rattati and logibro team tho. Those guys have been pretty solid, and my hat is off to them. I hope they pull a hat trick and get legion on the PS4. Gaijin did it with war thunder very quickly and easily. CCP could do the same. they just need to be confident in themselves and push forward.
Do you want awesome change? Do you want dust to rock like never before?
Then vote Appia for CPM1

I would like to be wrong, but Destiny will be plagued with tons of DLC.
New class > DLC Higher level cap > DLC More maps > DLC
Basically a Borderlands clone with PVP.
