people know the shotgun and plasma cannon are bad. but PLC is a novelty weapon while shotgun is just bad.

I don't think I'll give up my scrambler pistol SMG combo for anything, even with the bolt pistol and magsec coming out. I just really really hope the supposed coming nerf to the SMG isn't too over the top - it already struggles to down brick tankers in one clip!

In other news - been playing ambush again lately to fit in a couple of quick games when I have a spare 20 mins and I tend to start out with a scanner but end up missing my REs so much; starting to think it's just not worth running a scanner unless in a squad you actually know is competent (I usually just jump in a random squad in each match). A scanner in ambush is a great thing to have but as a scout, you're a sitting duck unless the people you're scanning are actually getting killed for you. REs however, are very situational in ambush - it's not like skirmish or domination where there are objectives you can guarantee kills from. You have to sneak up on unwary tanks or lure in the heavies or find an enemy uplink and wait for a bunch of people to die. It's all good fun but REs are a lot more effort to use in ambush.

fyi, thats most likely due to the "magic" weapon sight hotspot.
Particularly noticably if you have sniper rifle equipped.
Even though you cant see a marker for your sight when not scoped... its still active. if you pass it within a certain radius of an enemy, and that enemy is closer than ( 500m for sniper rifle, or 75m for most other weapons), they will light up on your radar, or at least have a chevron if outside of your radar range (99m)

Still reveling in the fact you can get double kills with the nova knives. I'm up to 3 doublekills now. longest kill streak is still only 5 (having your name displayed for kills without being disrupted by other people getting kills).

my best post-match analysis, i've gotten 25 NK kills in a row, but nothing beats showing the 31 other players how deadly you are with knives when you get those kills like the people with Prototype Fine Rifles do.

I'm also nervous about the upcoming SMG nerf... I hope they don't make the weapon useless. It's difficult enough to use now as a main weapon due to it's lack of efficiency against shields and the fitting cost being seriously stupid when compared to the superior combat rifle.
It shines though against armor and because it can hold so much ammo....
I wish CCP would buff side-arms a bit so that there was some benefit to using them as a viable main playstyle. I guess there is some benefit in terms of fitting costs related to the other (non combat) rifles, but really being a sidearm only kind of guy is tough these days. Maybe it always was.
All that being said, I just can never do worth a damn with any of the rifles. I'll get a few kills but I just seem so much less effective... I always seem to get ganked when I ADS for a medium-range distance kill. Breach AR is the exception but I hip fire it almost exclusively and why not just go for the ScP as it's got superior damage?
Ducking and weaving within 20m is so much better. Even on Manus peak I'd rather have a pistol than an AR.
Can't wait for the new range in 1.8 for SMG's and pistols! |

Doesnt the Magsec have a charge time and wont fire as fast (not sure, didnt check numbers) as the SMG?
If Rifles are getting nerfed then SMG's have to as well as HMG's but they might let that one stay for at least another few months.
- If CCP doesnt then they will just confirm what many believe about their game design and balance skills.

um... you realize what you said there, right?
if sidearms were more effective than light weapons . . . then there'd be no need for light weapons. Scrambler Pistol vs Scrambler Rifle. ScR has more DPS and more 4 extra bullets to fire before overheats. and it has a longer range. . . if you think the SMG vs CR is the one suffering you are mistaken.

- So an SMG under 30m would be just as good or better than the rifle.
If they are supposed to be lesser in every way then we should reduce the skill multiplier on them. And if they are really supposed to be lesser why make the MagSec or Bolt with those stats
