As to the bonus changesGǪ. Well, I was kinda "ready" for this, having suspected as much from the Dev blog so long ago (I really did not want to be right Shotty) I hope the scanners and/or our db gets adjusted, or JammersGǪ something

From what I recall, 100% efficiency on many(most?) shotguns is 0-4.9m. So when you say "5m", do you literally mean 5m, or do you mean "0 < 5m" ?
In other words, if someone is firing at 4m, can they expect full 100% efficiency, presuming they are properly on target?

Problem here is the fact that this gimps shield based suits. We can't maintain a tank and have damage mods. This is even worse for scouts, which force them to give up their already measly eHP for damage.
well yeah, but that's DUST for you :-/ Same problem with shield tanks. Literal tanks ,that is. I <3 me some gunnlogi. But trouble is, to have decent defense, means I have to use up all 3 of my high slots for shield related stuff, which means no scanner, and no damage mods.
Soo... oh well.

I'm really not sure how I feel about these, on the one hand, I still have my two bonuses (Gallente scout) on the other hand, I'd feel gimped for not using a cloak, which I hadn't intended on using except for specific suits.

So to use a scout effectively....we no longer have the option of what equipment to roll with. We're are automatically stuck with a cloak. So much for flanking to unusual positions to drop an uplink or you know using those lovely remotes or being a forward position scanning agent.
This cloak mechanic had better be ******* amazing, profiles dropped on all scouts suits, and weapon damages dropped across the board to make 1.8 at all good. I'd like to think that scouts will always be a moderately/kinda viable suit....but I'm not seeing a silver lining here.... |

it is implied that there is a cost to just activating the cloak so I'm expecting some sort of "ammo" or "stamina bar" like mechanic involved here.
Especially when you consider that they used the term firing instead of activating... It makes me wonder.

another thing that makes me feel this has ammo is that the amarr bonus shows that there is already a cooldown, so if its not the cooldown which limits the use of the cloak, then there is another limiting mechanic involved which required a reduction.

I agree with this. There's not enough slots on a scout. By throwing a damage mod on you're essentially cutting your HP down by quite a bit which is not at all worth it.

I'm assuming it'll work kind of like Planetside 2's. When you activate it a bar begins to run out. When you deactivate or decloak to fire it begins recharging. I'm assuming that when you fire it'll take off a hefty percentage of the available time left to cloak.
This way you can cloak, move, uncloak, fire, recloak, move.

Or I just get to walk and stand still until my cloak runs out. These maps are HUGE so I don't anticipate getting very far walking...

These days, seems like the majority of scanning I run across, is actually from vehicles. So as long as you're below that, you're going to be in about the same place you are already, even if you dont use cloak.
It remains to be seen just how desirable a cloak will be, andd in which roles. Given that there will be a cooldown for it, its certainly not going to be some ultimate ninja winbutton for assassinating everything in site. Rather, it sounds like it's going to have to be used with specific tactical goals in mind.
My main concern is whether scouts are going to be able to use a cloak, AND carry an uplink, at the same time.

says that caldari scout will be able to fire FROM CLOAK. The cloak will still drop... but it will drop some time AFTER you fire.
Methinks caldari has just become the 1.8 choice for shotgun scouts

@Quil Think about how long it takes you to kill someone when you get the drop on them. Unless you are a bad shot or using an UP weapon, it usually isn't very long. As long as you attack while they are facing away from you, the enemy shouldn't have time to put up a proper resistance regardless if you are cloaked or not.
Edit: I wonder if a NK user can assassinate an enemy and run a few meters before the cloak drops. Would be valuable for NK users then, I guess.

that's IF you can "get the drop on them". Which up until now, has required either a tight citymap, or doing a looong flanking maneouver around them.
Now, even if they're blockng a doorway, so long as they're not firing in your direction, you can just mosey right up to them, and shoot them in the face. AND.. their buddy BEHIND them, wont see you for a second. Which will give you a chance to shoot THEM in the face too!
MUAH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....
