Cass Caul wrote:nerfing niche to make a more "equal distribution" is 100% bullshit. It's just going to take the hmg back to 1.7 when my Gal logi, or Cal assault, could use a rail rifle (AR or CR now) and win in a head on 1v1 from within 15m There's also the very real possibility that the HMG Heavy is simply and truly too good right now. There's a wide gap between "too good" and "useless" ... in my opinion, there's ample room to tune the weapon and/or mechnics without reducing the HMG to 1.7 garbage.
Cass Caul wrote:Also, some of you guys can be dense, like really dense, because if you increase armor plate speed penalties you'll divide the shotgun scouts into two parties: party 1 are the guys that say, "speed penalties don't matter, HP is king" and party two, "I'll just use my Cal Scout." Increases movement penalties on scouts are about as effective as 2 second during delay coupled with 2 second decloak animation. I agree with you on this one. Slamming armor-based HP builds (GA) will more likely than not shift Assault Lite toward shield-based HP builds (CA). Anticipating the shift, Rattati might put penalty on both shields (profile penalty) and armor (movement penalty). The end result will be MN Scout who can't compete because he can't beat scans. Not sure what to recommend. |

To be fair the Caldari have won quite a few tonight! We keep getting into really close matches, really, really enjoying this!
All that the Caldari really need to do is to believe, no know, that they are going to win and then go all in doing it. |

What is needed is an instant decloak with a one second fire delay before being able to fire.
I am not sure why things were changed the way they were. Thanks guys, yes we did some changes, not ninja though it's all documented on the Features and Ideas forum. Changing the decloak animation to zero as we ended up doing before 1.9, was a hack. We always wanted to have cloaked players gradually appear with the swirling animation, as it actually is more noticieable than just "tada!". So now with put down delay, we added the animation back. As you don't see the animation in1st person, it may seem that you are firing out of cloak but you will be appearing in 3rd person view. Even if not 100% perfect, we didn't want to shaft the cloak, we want it to be just right and do small steps. Today's cloak is an improvement, and the better news is that the delay works as intended and we can continue working on it, which was only possible after the code change in 1.9. Hope that clears that up.

Recycling an old idea from IgniteableAura ...
Step 1) Rewire cloak such that it's too cumbersome to use effectively in frontal assault (check!) Step 2) Reward hit-and-run play with a "while cloaked" perk which aids in escape or recovery
While cloak is active (ideas) ...
+X% armor/shield regen +X% sprint speed +X% active dampening

Of all the high-schoolers I've played with, Statius has been my favorite.
Also, surprise surprise he also thinks if you can't see a cloak you're probably playing the wrong game.
Good times, good time.
I remember the first time I squaded up with him for pubs, "Dude, you sound like a stoner from Ohio."
"OMG, How did you know?!"

Slightly Related:
So we kept getting mails from some dude by the name of Beast Gameplay who wanted to join FA.
Dude said he had a 25k/d. Red flags already. Tell the corp we shouldn't bother.
Checked and came up false. Denied.
Kept sending mails.
Religiously.
Like after every game we played against him.
Still no.
He eventually joins someone else (I can't remember).
See him in FW while q'syncing.
He was running a Minmatar Scout with 300+ armor.
I'm so glad we didn't bother.

I'm noticing people referring to HMG being terrible in 1.7. Just gotta correct that.
The HMG in 1.7 was actually good. It was 1.6 where the HMG was terrible and at it's total low point. With the constant increases in hit detection with no reduction in AR damage to compensate the heavy simply couldn't tank enough damage to be a threat combined with the HMGs incredibly short range (at the time). This was the time when I started rolling forge in CQC because it was the better close range weapon (if I ran heavy at all).
It was very early 1.7 (about a week of so after launch) where the problem with the animation was pointed out and CCP did a kind of hot fix for it and buff to the HMG as a whole, drastically increasing the spread (it was a laser before) and increasing the RPS.
This was a video that pointed it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPBRYgUGBbw
Heavies really became a problem with 1.8 with the new suits, buff to HP and damage resistances combined with the nerfs to rifles.

* If we or cloak become UP.
*pops up head from sand* AH yes, I remember that idea....Shotty or Haerr should probably pitch that to Rattai if we want it mulled over.
Perhaps I should jump on this weekend I might have some free time to actually play this weekend. That way I can see how 1.9 feels, perhaps I can get lost in the new outpost like I did the first time in the GAL research facility....oh good times and those exit signs were my saving grace.
