It can also be used to make someone take cover, giving you a few extra moments to escape. ____________________________________________________________________________ Immortal Guides, supporting knowledge dissemination in New Eden since August 31, 2013. Disagree with you. If you have enough skill in the gun, you can shred through targets that make the mistake of trying to engage me point blank. Spray the full clip at them, and with good accuracy, I can tear through 2 ADV suits with one clip. Easily. Also a point to note, I do have my SMG maxed operation, 3 in proficiency, 3 in sharpshooter, 3 in rapid reload, 3 in ammo. I use that gun like a close range AR. If you are good you can kill the majority of players before they line you up, even if you were naked. How would you fair against an equally skilled player in an Assault suit? At close range the SMG, when skilled into it as you are, has a DPS advantage over the Assault Riffle, but the Assault suit has more of a EHP advantage over he Scout suit. You used to be able to negate this by firing on the Assault suit while jumping around and orbiting them because the SMG had better tracking speed and no kick, while a moving target with a small hit box used to be hard to hit. Now, everything is easier to hit, including Scouts, so to win a stand up fight, you need to line up your shot and start firing faster than the other guy and aim for the face. If you have the skill to do that, you may still be successful, but the average Scout is not going to fair very well. I have Proficiency 4, and Sharpshooter 3, but have not bothered with Rapid Reload and Ammo. I will say though that since I am old, this is my first consol game (although I did play Pong when it was new) and this is my first FPS since Doom in 1993, I am not a particularly good shot. Although my aim is vastly improved over when I started and I may now rate as Poor, rather than GÇ£absolutely horribleGÇ¥.
This applies mainly to Proto Suits. Proto suits are hard as hell to kill, and that falls under the scout's idea of "if it's out of your class, run away". Most above average players in ADV-PROTO suits require a different approach, which is what you are referring to with the baiting tactic.
Which is completely correct. If you see yourself outclassed, use speed and maneuverability to engage the enemy on your own terms. I was arguing against using it as such against every enemy. But yes, against tough opponents, using the SMG as such is what separates the men from the boys. |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I was actually running scout pre-uprising. Once respect came I went full on support logi since we were lacking it at the time. Scouts are my secondary role that I have been slowly building SP for over the past couple months.

I would check the Charge Rifle stats in-game as that sounds like old info. They changed the skill requirement for that rifle several months back - pretty sure it's a proto rifle. |

Actually I'd be really interested in reading both versions? That's assuming the updates are to take into account the major changes since 1.4 or before. |

I was going against you yesterday morning. At one objective we were holed up for what seemed like half the match fighting back tides of reds that just had to have that room with "B" in it.
I remember raging after a death to a medium suit in that game.... and then turned around the next spawn and you killed me and I was like "oh, that's a scout, it's cool...."
Hope you make your way back to the scanning fits, I was using it and so many of those reds walked around corners or down stairs into a waiting hail of bullets. I remember you went like 4/11 and I was like "whoa, something must be going on..." For me it was one of my few good games yesterday.

I really like my scanning fits but my cQc game needs a lot of help. originally only wanted the scanning to help catch enemy sneaking up on me while sniping but the new buildings made sniping a bit harder and having the radar working nice keeps pulling me into cQc. also been using the radar to help with using optimal weapon ranges. just not figured out why my ar will hardly scratch the enemy at 80m but the enemy kills me in like 1 sec with an ar at 100m
Can't decide on a weapon now. shotgun is really fun but i don't like to get that close and it cost me being able to have a long or medium range weapon. flaylock was not bad in the new buildings with all the nice tight hallways and walls everywhere but again not enough to replace smg even though the smg seems to jam after first 3 shots fire on every full clip when using anything other than the proto smg. laser was good but draws a line to where i am so not good for a stealth scout. tac ar maybe if they fix the range so it beats the auto so I can play the range game scrambler rifle is same with ar when it comes to me playing range vs range
in a group the laser, tac ar, and scrambler are pretty fun when staying just behind the front line mercs but the sniper is still better
might test more today before returning to my primary sniper/smg until they balance weapon ranges a little better or introduce a weapon with range better than ar and less than sniper like the tac ar should be. getting killed from 100m+ from fully auto ar fire when using a tac ar scope is just wrong. or is it because im only lvl 3 ar sharpshooter? |

Everyone is having this problem. CCP suggests that the issue is "visual effects only" and will be resolved in 1.5. Supposedly, the shotgun is dealing damage appropriately despite the quirky graphics:

The open sharing of advice and information in the scout community is one of the reasons I stuck with Dust, even after my first week of brutal and frequent losses. Keep the united front together, scout brothers and sisters. I, for one, truly appreciate it.

321 fully charged, between 50-99% of charge lvl it does ~50% dmg, can't tell for sure if it does lets say 75% dmg at 75% charge lvl without recording vid. Most good players you can OHK only in head, but you need x2-3 dmg complex modules to do that & they won't stay still :)

Was playing with some numbers today and came to 2 conclusions that would make a hell of a difference to scouts: 1) Double passive scanning range to 20m for scout suits - a fully specced minja can get to 30m and ganjas to 45m without mods; a very respectable passive scan distance that would give all of us a suitable edge on the battlefield without making us in any way overpowered. 2) Couple this with sharing our passive scan vision (maybe limited to squads only though CCP doesn't seem to like squad only advantages)
These things would allow us to actually perform the role of a scout adequately without giving us an unfair advantage over other suits. |

These things would allow us to actually perform the role of a scout adequately without giving us an unfair advantage over other suits. If ganjas had 45 innate, adding one complex amplifier would bring passive to 65 meters. Just one. That means that passive would extend to the second ring. That might be a tad OP. Maken already calculated that Proto Scout with Proto Amplifiers would have a passive of 99, thus reaching the 3rd ring, the max. I think that although that requires a lot of sacrifice, the fact you can reach the full extent of minimap in passive with just 10 meters base, means that it will probably go no further without nerfing skills. |

Also, was looking again at my scout stats thread from the other week and came up with the following changes to the suit setups that would go a long way imho: Add a slot at each level and buff CPU in the following manners:- Std Gallente - 2 hi slots 2 lo slots 150 cpu
Std Minmatar - 2 hi slots 2 lo slots 160 cpu
Adv Gallente - 2 hi slots 3 lo slots 210 cpu
Adv Minmatar - 3 hi slots 2 lo slots 224 cpu
Pro Gallente - 2 hi slots 4 lo slots 273 cpu
Pro Minmatar - 3 hi slots 3 lo slots 291 cpu
These figures would bring our CPU/slot into line with assaults and allow us much greater fitting capacity than currently (though still not as many slots as assaults at proto level).
I know a lot of people ask for an extra equipment slot too but I think that change should be consigned to either a new light suit role or similar to the old b-type suits from closed beta. |

I thought about that but I still think it's fair. I highly doubt anyone will be using more than 2 range amps in favour of losing space for biotics/armor mods. As scouts, we should get a decent passive scan range without needing mods. Maybe with shared vision it's OP but on it's own would be balanced. Afterall is it really that useful to be able to see people at 65m or even 95m when already the minimum scan range of the worst active scanner is 100m and people are going to be using them even more once the new WP stuff comes in? |

Well, then range amplifiers should be nerfed. Just because we can make passive scanning good by sacrificing literally everything else (i.e. proto Gal scout with zero armor or speed increases, just 4 complex range amps) doesn't mean that passive scanning is in a good place right now. The base scan range should be buffed for scouts. |

I am also having issues deciding on a weapon. I've got the Laser rifle and Shotgun to operation L1 (nothing, I know) and the SMG and AR to operation L2..... I think that I'll probably build up the SMG first since all of my fits use it as a sidearm. In terms of CQC, I'm no master either... I find I do best when at about 15-20m away with the SMG. Way better than 5m with the shotgun. Of course with the passive scanning mods I am using (1 ADV range extender on a STD gallente scout w/ L5 scout skills) I can typically engage my target from the side or behind.
As for the AR range, I get hit by Duvolles from 100m out while my Exile can't touch them... the GEK has more range than the STD AR, and the Duvolle has more range than the GEK. And sharpshooter means more of their bullets hit so that may be what is going on there.....
Good luck with the fits!
