Just to clarify, Jay's thread came about from a conversation he and I were having. My concern about the proposed grenade nerfs (specifically not being able to replace them at nanohives) is an unnessary overkill. While yes, we're almost all RE users and make a habit of killing tanks with them, we're also hackers. And we use fluxes a lot.
Flux the uplinks, flux the objective to hack and then begin the long walk to the nearest supply depot (assuming it hasn't been destroyed) because you're gonna get RE'd if you go for another objective.
This seems stupid to me. And will actually nerf those scouts not going for the slayer play style. And will really be felt in PC.
I only have one suit set up with locus nades, everything else is flux and I know I've already lost dom matches because they had 3 fluxes worth of equipment spam and I only had two to use.
I think the majority of players won't even equip them and will instead use their own RE's to clear an objective before hacking.
As for RE's being split into either AV or AI, yeah that's BS, **** that.

Bayeth Mal wrote:I think the majority of players won't even equip them and will instead use their own RE's to clear an objective before hacking. I can't do this. My REs are typically arranged as carefully as possible at the first objective I hacked. I tend to drop 2 or all three (with one of them quite obvious). I figure, if the red dot sees one in the open, he'll shoot it instead of fluxing, believing he's cleared some noob's little trap. Then I see the notification "Enemy is hacking D" and he goes bu-bye.
If I then tried to use my remaining RE (if applicable) to clear enemy REs at the next point I hack, then I prematurely detonate the trap I laid at the previous point.
So what I end up doing, then, is:
Hack home point. Booby trap it.
Run around the city to enemy home point. Flux it (if necessary, some points are in well-lit, brightly colored areas and REs stick out like sore thumbs so I just shoot them), hack.
Run into the city, stab people, flux and hack a point. Run back to enemy home point.
IF I pass a supply depot, I'll hack it and re-up on fluxes and REs, but I can't drop new REs until I've detonated the originals (or they've been fluxed/shot). When I run out of fluxes, i just slow down on my hacks and carefully inspect the point before hacking, making sure to shoot any REs I find. I haven't been blown up by RE traps on objectives in a long time, but I find it hilarious how often I get kills with these traps.
I don't think any nerf is needed for REs themselves, but I'd like to see a mechanic where they can't simply be 'tossed/dropped'. They should have to be planted. This should be something that you have to hold R1 for one second to do. The skill could reduce this time by 0.1 second until at max skill you only take 0.5 seconds to plant one - but it still can't just be tossed or dropped.
Examples: To plant RE on tank, scout runs up to tank, selects RE (thus decloaking), spends 0.8 seconds (at skill level 2) to plant STD RE on tank. Another 0.8 seconds to plant second. Another 0.8 seconds to plant 3rd. Yes, this adds an element of risk to the practice - a nerf to RE vs. Tank in and off itself, without re-coding them to only work vs. infantry or what have you.
To plant proximities in the road, bomber must crouch and hold R1 for, say, 0.6 seconds (at skill level 4) to plant one. And so forth. Again, a new element of risk is introduced. Here, though, I should have to insist on a damage buff for proximities.
To plant REs on the walls/floor near an objective's hack console, same thing. This eliminates the bullsh1t where scout jumps around the heavy flinging REs at him or drops REs from the pipes overhead or similar abuses of the RE for cheap kills.
The arming time becomes unnecessary due to the time taken to plant them, but I wouldn't complain about it still taking a second or two for the bomb to become 'live' and synced with your detonator.
And since we're talking about grenades and explosives, why the hell do scouts carry grenades anyway?
REs, okay. Sabotage, this makes sense. Grenades are an awfully front line kind of thing, IMO. And why does everyone get the same number of nades? Doesn't this make more sense...?
Heavies/Sentinels: 1 grenade. Commandos: 2 grenades (they currently carry none; this is ludicrous. They're commandos, of course they should have nades!)
Basic Medium suits: 1 grenade (they're basic suits, if they use their grenade to good effect, it is all they need) Logistics: 1 grenade (his role is pretty focused, this should be an emergency measure only, and with the 1 grenade the heavy/sentinel he may be partnered with, they have an honest chance) Assaults: 2 grenades at STD level, 3 at ADV and 4 at PROTO. That's right. Incentivize the use of Assault suits for Assaulting things. Give them more grenades. When a team is assaulting a building, they 'spam grenades' through the doors/windows of the building they're assaulting, don't they? Well... why can Assaults not carry more nades? If this change is too complicated, leave it at 2 grenades max per grenade slot, but give the Assaults a second grenade slot at ADV and PRO levels (allowing both to carry 4 grenades in total and also giving the option of carrying two different types rather than 4 of one type).
Basic Light suits: 0 grenades. It's not their role. Scout suits: 1 general grenade slot, OR 2 grenades if they can carry only fluxes for clearing other scout/saboteurs' explosives.
I mean why the **** not, really?

Like I said, I mostly use fluxes, for clearing objectives and equipment. For a lot of scouts that's their role.
Also, getting 3 REs on the tail of a Gunnlogi usually isn't enough, you need to flux them first or they'll survive all 3.
I think in the last 5 months I've been taken out by a locus once. They're just not that big a deal anymore.

The only time I really use them for clearing equipment is in Dom on that one map where Alpha is in the cylinder and the Supply Depot down the hall is so critical - it's always heavily spammed with equipment. Less often, that map with the two sky scrapers and the SD is beneath the mushroom tower thing across from the CRU (I don't know map names, but y'all know what I'm talking about). That's often spammed as well. Or finally, if they have one or two uplinks and I don't have time to shoot them before dying, I'll try to toss a flux where it'll hit both or at least one, just to screw them up.
For the most part, though, I generally only use 'em for making sure I don't get blown up when hacking in a dark place or for nuking the shields off a tank (as you mentioned) when I get stuck with the task of trying to neutralize a tank..
Granted, I do believe you went something like 33/9 when we were in squad that time, so... I concede you've got a better strategy and more skill than I do :p
Still, I'd really like to see the task of AV put on assaults (who theoretically have more HP), commandos and heavies (Forge Gun). My alt's commando suit runs an AR and Swarm, for example. Give it a grenade slot for AV nades and it could be a legitimate threat to any tanker. Give the Assault suit more nades and let someone fit an AV Assault with Swarms or the new buffed Plasma Cannon and he just might be a threat, too - especially in conjunction with a FG and/or a Commando with an AV weapon.
It's no fun for me trying to go bomb a tank... I Embrace the Death, as you saw, but it's be nice if someone who actually has enough EHP to get to cover when the blaster turret swings toward them was actually putting their ass on the line instead of mine (especially after the plate changes nerf the scouts who choose to tank themselves up with armor).
I would also love to see a new Equipment module for scouts... even though I know we won't see this happen, because :Legion:
EMP Disrupts Equipment within X meter radius of user.
This means cloaks, repair tools, nanohives, drop uplinks, REs. (the latter three being effectively destroyed). This module would either have a static number of charges (not replenished by SD or nanohives), or a significant cooldown. Repair tools would have to re-lock and cloaks would be deactivated (obviously they could either re-cloak that moment if they had more than 50% of their duration remaining, or have to wait out the cooldown - just as it is when you uncloak and recloak normally). OR, they could just be busted for, say, 5/10/20 seconds (tiered efficacy, note this would include the scout's own cloak). It would be usable only by Scouts.
If cooldown: STD: 3m radius, 2 minute cooldown ADV: 5m radius, 3 minute cooldown PRO: 7m radius, 5 minute cooldown
Something like that, the cooldown numbers may be off.
If static number of charges:
STD: 1 charge ADV: 2 charges PRO: 3 charges All radii the same.
BUT, we won't see any new modules, so... I agree that clearing equipment is bastards' work, especially uplinks, so for that I think limiting us to Flux grenades would be appropriate. I think it should be obvious I'm not interested in anything that makes our job as scouts harder. I just have a thing for immersive gameplay and things making sense for the role. Even my RE suggestion doesn't really 'nerf' REs, given that it takes a second in between tossing another RE as it is.

But I have had to quickly make a fitting with nanos and fluxs just to go spend the next couple of minutes clearing the obscene equipment spam. I was curious about the grenade changes. I'm not a PC player, but I hadn't seen any sort of over the top grenade spam for a number of months. I could be wrong and no doubt CCP are working from better data than my one view point, but just seemed uncessesary.

It still happens, but I think it's mostly people finally learning that Locus Grenades get more -50 Team Kills then they do +50 Kills. Plenty of the new kids (That's bitter vet for under 25mil SP) that are getting into PC at the fall of the blue waffle haven't learned that lesson.

Man of Spade wrote:Question for the candidates. What, if any, experience do you have with politics and how would you transfer it to the CPM term? I've worked as an activist, volunteer, organizer, and.... someone kick me between the uprights for letting this start to sound like a resume
Anyway, point is I've been around the block with the major US parties and some less than major ones too. I know how useless bureaucracy can become when it degenerates and how often it gets caught up in 'glad handing' itself rather than listening to the community it's supposed to represent.
Dust should bloody well be fun, and if I can cross-apply (no pun intended... or was it? ) that experience in ways which help make the CPM a more effective advocate for Dust and our community of players to get their voice clearly to CCP then so much the better. I'd transfer most of that experience myself by applying the patience I've learned; because sometimes an idea I start out hating (usually due to not fully understanding the situation) is the right one, because sometimes the individuals I'm talking too just need a moment before the can let go of emotion and approach a problem rationally, and because at the end of the day if I'm not diplomatic with CCP and my fellow CPMs my ability to advocate for your voice will be undermined. In other words, if I troll any of them too hard they're just going to put me on their /ignore list
So the key thing I'll transfer is knowing I have to work with the team in front of me, regardless of who they are, and that I can be focused on advocating an idea without attacking someone who doesn't currently share it.

If they remove Grenade refill on Nano hives this will suck for me. But since i Flaylock it won't be so bad. I often use it to clear an objective or wipe out simple Equipment drops to save my fluxes for other uses.
