I like the idea of any suit being able to use all their slots to become like another suit...at base level (ie shield-tank minnie scout, armor-tanked assault, speed tanked logi, etc), but no suit should be able to be better than another suit's stated purpose (ie ewar assaults and speed/sg logi).
Technically, no other suit can be faster or more damped than a scout...but who cares when ewar means little and hitbox expansion penalizes the speed advantage. The scout sniper is perhaps the only scout role "working" as intended, but is inferior to a speed-tanked gank logi.
I want scouts to be feared...but only when they maintain the advantage of surprise. When i solo another non-scout player (or multiple at once) i kinda feel bad about it...sometimes. |

To all our Scout brethren who are in the: 'well scouts aren't meant to play like assaults etc. etc....you just want everything.' I hate to break it to those of you, but you guys are probably the only ones still playing by the 'rules'. Meanwhile, everyone in their Assault/Logi (and to some extent the Heavies in Commando) suit is wrecking everything outside the box doing things more effectively than you at the 'role' you presume to excel at because 'that's how scouts are to be played'.
Unless of course, you want to be the one to tell the 'Cal Logies' of this world: 'Hey that's not how your suit is meant to be played!' while they ignore you as you lie bleeding out and getting tea bagged repeatedly. Good luck!
Someone even claimed that the Scout Sniper is the only thing working as intended? And how was it intended? To play second fiddle to a Logi who's highs are decked with damage mods, and lows with armor plates, while standing on a number of repair nanos, right next to an uplink in the unlikely event he get's killed? Please. You're na+»vet+¬ is adorable.
Wake up. If you're argument about how the scout isn't supposed to be so and so is the only thing you're hanging on to, then you just haven't been playing at the level of Dust that others in here call home. Whatever improvements those of us are trying to imagine in here serves also to benefit those content to play in pub games.

You're just going to have to trust your 'big bros' on this one. And please please, don't be the enemy what we're trying to do here. Maybe some of us, are trying to figure out what and who we are? Most other classes have their....."ROLL" written out for them. This class doesn't. To me, this can be an advantage, but a helping hand, and arrow that points "----->" could help.
With changes in the mechanics in this game, have been giving this suit trouble. I hardly see KNIFERS anymore, shotgunning is seen in speed tanked logi's. Sure, a few SMIG, or SNIPE, I MASSHOLE the world.
Thing is, performance of this class has dwindled. if this continues, jsut like tanks, soon a battle field filled with heavies, and AR. might be an AR Logi, or Assault suit, but no more scout. Vehicles will be talked about like days of old.
Obviously that is a little melodramatic, but this class, and many others, will become rare. Either fools ( new and die hard old) will be seen in this. Die hard vets, might just change class, or just leave this game all together.
At least us talking an disusing our concerns, and gracing this wrenched place with our opinion, sitting here in a registry of bitter scouts ( not all here are bitter), maybe we might get some info and some hope. |

Please. You're na+»vet+¬ is adorable. We are talking about two different roles: point defense and squad overwatch.
The former requires high ehp to prevent being dislodged when the enemy eventually notices your large radar signature/glowing nanohives from across the map and countersnipes you or sends scouts to remove you. Point defense consists of keeping a specific field of fire clear of enemies and killing targets of opportunity.
The latter is the realm of the scout suit. It's role is to provide squad support when needed. Speed and stealth are necessary as a true scout sniper must always relocate due to the movements of his squad or to prevent enemy detection after covering fire has been provided. Overwatch consists of spotting of enemies/equipment/vehicles and relaying their position, providing distraction and influencing enemy movements, and providing concentrated fire and assassination of logi elements.
So yes, scout sniper is working as intended.
And not trying to derail the best intentions of big brother, just concerned that speed-slayer sounds more like light frame assault and not a Gallente scout.

I've been playing scout for a while now and it's very fun but my k/d has plummeted in the last couple of months. Pre-Uprising I was up nearing 2, now I'm gradually sinking down to around 1. In fact a lot of games I go negative. Fortunately, I care little for k/d and wish they'd list P/L instead because my isk efficiency is awesome. I always run a profit and not by running free suits.
My fav setup is a hacking gal: ADV Gal light - I've considered speccing into the scout proper but the bonus isn't worth it in my eyes. 2 enhanced sidearm damage mods 2 complex hacking mods breach scrambler pistol M209 SMG STD flux grenade STD Uplink
I have a combat variant, where I swap the hacking mods for an ADV ferroscale and complex repper and upgrade the pistol to the ADV breach. This is for when there's really no need to be hacking anything.
Also have an AV version with MLT swarms and hacked AV nades.
My thing has always been about being sneaky and getting behind the enemy line for a surprise hack or sniper hunting. My WP is my pride and much more reflective of my ability than my k/d. That said, just went 15/3 in a game and had a blast. Thing is, with less than 300ehp, if any AR gets my in sight, I'm dead in 4 shots. My only chance is to outmanuevre people, which I can usually do with heavies but what's this talk about the changes to movement and turn speed in 1.3/1.4?
Can someone link me to where these changes have been stated because they sound daft. Why should a big huge HEAVY weapon be able to turn as fast as a LIGHT weapon or even a sidearm? And I thought CCP Wolfman confirmed there was a bug with strafe speed where the modifiers weren't being applied - who said that they were being made uniform across all suits? |

CPM_Nova seemed to share similar concern for Scouts regarding the 1.4 aim-assist / agility buffs:
Nova Knife wrote:Shotty GoBang wrote:Great post, CPM_Saber.
Care to comment on the proximity of Cmdr Wang's stated "future Dev love for Scouts"? Does CCP still hold the power to dispense Dev love via Hotfix?
-Shotty GoBang We've been told that infantry are getting looked at in 1.4, but the scope of this comment wasn't very clearly elaborated on yet. We're in the process of scheduling a meeting with CCP Flying Scottsman (The lead game designer) and CCP Remnant (The designer currently in charge of overall balancing for infantry) to get a discussion going about what will be changing, how they go about their balancing process in the first place, etc. Our intent in this meeting is to further push our crusade of "If you spend like 20 minutes a day for a day for two actually talking to your playerbase about a change you're thinking about making, you'll save yourself weeks of re-tooling and re-adjusting in the long run" As far as scouts go, we've heard nothing specific about it, but we can confirm that CCP agree's they are in a pretty crap place. When being told about the upcoming aiming improvements concern was expressed that this might shaft scouts even further, so we're hoping they took that kind of stuff into account if scouts are on the balancing plate for 1.4! As for what can/can't be hotfixed, this is a murky point. They /apparently/ have the ability to hotfix in balancing changes to almost every stat but range with very short notice. We've never got a solid answer on why they let things fester for so long if that's the case, though. We're at a stage where trying to figure out what they can/can't do with their tech is something we're trying to get answers on so we can better direct feedback, but we're encountering resistance for whatever reason on a lot of stuff. When I've got something solid about the state of scouts, I'll seek permission to share it ASAP.

I think they are better off dropping light and heavy and just making one "suit" you customize the way you want because they struggle mightily in foreseeing the natural exploits. |

Unfortunately, CCP had already, in the past, released videos and marketing materials championing the fact that you can basically do whatever with the suit you have in terms of loadout and roles you wish for it to play. I remember a video where they were gushing over the fact that you can be a Heavy Suit wearing Sniper.
It's really a concept players can get behind since it doesn't cookie cut anyone into just one specific play style, but it does screw us scouts having the least of everything to play with. (slots, pg/cpu, eHP, etc.)

Dont want to keep this going in this awesome thread so I will just end with this.
I know there is no going back and I'm fine with that but I want CCP try to reign in some of the classes to force players to be more squad dependent.
If you want to be a heavy sniper that is fine but a sentinel with a Sniper Rifle should offer no benefit. Same with Logis, they should lose slots or restrict slot allocation to force them to use modules other than just multiple extenders or damage mods.
Just imagine the scenario where a logi is actually vital - he can hack in a blink, resupply widely and heal but he isnt as durable, so the squad need to protect him and move into areas in a more organized manner. A scout needing to stick to cover or play off his squad for distraction and infiltration.
I thought that is what they are trying to achieve because as it is now if you can pick another class and skill it to make the actual specialist role insignificant then what is the point.
They should have big boundary ideas like "Class A skillled in a certain area using x number of mods should not be better than Class B in that area" - From there you work back to make all customization operate in that space.
Anyways - enough rant, I support your other points and hope CCP clearly state what they want to achieve in the realization of the suits and am looking forward to seeing the next iteration of logi rebalancing and how they will improve the scout. |

well then i want my heavy weapon slot for my scout suit and heavy should have a equipment slot because we all should be able to be whatever we want. if a heavy can be a sniper why cant a scout use a heavy weapon?
I did not know this game was intended to be another Star Wars Galaxies. I thought it was going to be Eve but with mercs instead of ships.
I have already seen how this story ends first hand with sony years back with Star Wars Galaxies and its combat upgrade then NGE. Same story different game. Lets let everyone mix and match skills. No wait that is impossible to balance so lets do a combat upgrade and completely remove the old system and go to a class based system. that didnt work lets make it a game for 4 year olds. oh no we have no players shut down the servers.
or they could take a little hint from Eve and allow everyone to use everything if they have the cpu power to use it. then just add in 90%-100% effeciency bonus to suits and bump up the cpu and pg modules use so a heavy might be able to use for example a complex profile dampener but only 1 and nothing else due to the suit not getting the bonus like the scout suit would.
Thanks for pointing this out to me so I can move on. |

I've been thinking of this myself on and off, and the only solution I can think of is this:
Certain items need to have their PC/CPU needs increased, not enough to make them useless on any suit, but enough that its going to be a major compromise to use them. Then - certain slots on certain suits need to have a bonus to that item i.e. A sniper rifle can be fitted in a Assault suit, however will guarantee (with a 10% increase in CPU/PG needs) that you either need CPU modules or damage mods are going to be very basic (you get the idea), however a Scout suit can use this rifle with no disadvantage as it gains a 10% reduction in CPU/PG needs for that weapon in its light weapon slot. Also special items like scanners, armour repairers and forge guns should be considered.
This would mean that legitimately any suit can use an item, however at a very high cost, whereas a specialist suit can use the item with no disadvantage.
Yes, you can have a heavy sniper however your fitting will be seriously compromised as compared with a scout sniper that can be optimized.
I still believe that only light suits should be using cloaks though. Every suit using cloaks would be an abomination. |

Making specialised suits actually special is an important aspect of this game and the opportunity so far has been largly missed. It's really all about the suit bonuses and there are really only 2 sets that are currently making the suits better for specific roles than anything else - the minmatar and the amarr. The amarr is clearly an energy weapon race and all of their suit bonuses are geared towards heat reduction and laser based weaponary. The minmatar get a bit of an array but the scout is clearly meant to be an assassin, the logi the speed hacker and the assault an ambusher. CCP should really look at the bonuses on the caldari and gallente suit and figure out what role they want these guys to be playing and rather than force them into it using restrictions and whatnot, make them so that they're so useful in a specific role that there's no point in playing them any other way.
For instance: the caldari are railgun tech specialists, so all their bonuses should cater to long range combat. Shield and reload bonuses just encourage in your face confrontations.
I realise this post has focused mainly on the racial side of things but the same principles apply to suit classes. Don't restrict people to how they want to play - just make it much more beneficial to play the way it was intended.
On the topic of cloaks - tie the function of the cloak to profile signature, so it works by making you visually invisible to anyone who has a higher scanning precision than your profile. This would make it completely useless to a heavy and only a vaible option for well dampened mediums but scouts would excel. |
