Just ran a match against a dude named aztec something (maybe aztechdeadly) running around with knives in a medium suit and ZNs. I suppose you could say, depending on his skills, that he using a med suit/adv knives vs me in an adv suit runnning Ish Noks was a wash lol /s We had a epic knife fight that went for well over a minute. That is a long time to knife fight, and certainly the world record for me. talk about intense. I took him out the first time. He did nick me and take out my shields, but i ended up besting him. this was at the start of the match. Then, we almost fought again, but his team mate blapped me with a scrambler. Then at the very end of the match we got into another fight. it was far shorter, but i hit him way good... then he got me. must have got me with both blades that time. The kicker was on the kill screen dude had 62 armor left and then the match ended.
way cool tho. I wish this was far more common place. |

Personal Conclusions on Aeon Amadi as CPM1 Nominee:
Having read through Aeon's positions on weapon balance, I've found them to be concerning and in stark contradiction to those of IWS: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=120782&find=unread
Iron Wolf Saber * Seems even-handed when it comes to weapon balance. * Tackles the issues head on. Offers excellent fix suggestions. * Would lobby CCP for better comparative performance of niche weapons. * Would push CCP toward greater weapon diversity in Dust.
Aeon Amadi * Seems prone to defending today's over-performing AR. * Is inclined to wax / wane and blame mechanics. The AR seems sacred. * Would lobby CCP for "fair odds" for the AR when facing niche weapons. * Would push CCP away from greater weapon diversity in Dust.
If asked choose between Aeon and IWS for CPM1: As of today, I would vote for Iron Wolf Saber.
* I still like Aeon, and I still think he can do alot to help Scouts when it comes to Suit balance. But I fear Aeon's opinions on the effectiveness of "general use" weapons would impede efforts toward weapon balance, serving to perpetuate the status quo. Good for AR-514, but bad for Scouts.

I think we should basically kick out the appointed CPM in favor of all new people.
IWS is the only one I would be inclined to vote for as an "incumbent" in an election. But then I think to all the times he pops into conversations, says something cryptic blah blah NDA. The equivalent to I'd tell ya but I'd have to kill ya bullshit. Um.. it's tactless and tends to derail conversations. First of all dude, don't care. It isn't cute, and no one cares.
Then we have jenza or whatever.. She is so toxic in this game I would never even give her a second of time if I met her. Just a very self serving selfish person.
Nova knife? That is probably the biggest misnomer in this game.
I would go on, but the rest of the CPM is never around the forums, I never see them in matches, and frankly who are they again? I forgot their names. shrug.
IMO- shotty would be a far better CPM than Aeon or IWS. by far. And who better to represent scouts?
If I am still around, I'd say no matter what, we should organize scouts chicago politico style and get a concrete voting block together to make sure we get the best suited scout representation possible.
Shotty has been fair, analytical, and great at aggregating scout issues for the last year at least.
maybe aeon and IWS could fill spots? But even if they did- we should still concentrate on someone like shotty (unless there is someone better I have no knowledge of?) to get in there as well. |

My 2c - Laurent is the best of the bunch. He is very fair and puts forward ideas that seem very possible to implement, understands how the game should be and how we can make changes to get there. The stuff I have read (not that much) from Hans also seems good.
IWS - not really comfortable about how he actually see things (scouts or game mechanics on a whole) He also comes across as too pro developer for my liking but if you think he will champion the scout cause then so be it. |

So I spent an inordinate amount of time with ice on my back and a PS3 controller in my hands today...
Ran all sorts of stuff alongside my scrambler pistols. Plasma cannon, flaylock, mass driver...
And then I decided to try the knives. Have barely ever used them, and not at all since 1.3 ... 1.4? I've been terrible with them the few times I have pulled 'em out. But I decided ... what the heck.
I proceeded to have the most fun I have ever had playing this game.
I love the blade, gentlemen.
Only downer was that in the last match of the night, I had a chance to duel Mr. Musturd ... and shot him. Uh, a couple times.
Sorry again, Musturd.
We were under heavy assault throughout the match ... lots of protobears incoming. So I switched to my Viziam fit and shot first ... asking questions later. Or, uh, not at all...
I realized the error of my ways when I gunned down Musturd ... and saw him lying there with his knives out.
About that time, my notification popped up, and I knew what it was going to say...
Alas, we weren't able to get together before the match ended. It's a bummer, because a knife fight with Mr. Musturd would have be a great ending to a fun day. Ah, well. I owe ya one, Musturd. I'm sure you'll enjoy stabbing me when the time comes |

They have been 200 since I came here in 1.1.
Also, I think someone did the math, and they actually do extra damage to shields and armor both, so that the damage done is actually greater in game than on paper.
Gonna try and find the link, I know it's around here somewhere...

TL;DR CPM members and candidates should represent balance in DUST, and push it towards its long term vision. They shouldn't represent scouts just because they play as scouts themselves. They shouldn't represent heavies just because they play as heavies themselves.
I noted Shotty, your quote of Aeon has him saying he would give an increase to damage to AR. I don't understand how that could ever be balanced. And again, by omission, he doesn't say what he'd do to any other weapon....he only appears to be considering AR.
I read the first post you put up from IWS on weapon balance. I don't like IWS - at all. But his views on weapon balance are 100% on point for me.
As for other CPM members etc., none of them impress me. They're either not around enough so I don't know them, or they're too prone to trolling and behaving in a way I would hope they wouldn't as representatives between us and CCP.
IWS seems more of a like-***** than anything else to me, and I couldn't vote for him based on how he handles himself - which is a darn pity because it would appear he wants this game balanced.
On that note, is it right to have CPM1 candidates voted for because they advocate one specific play style? For example, it hardly needs stating, but we would all be happy with someone who wants to help scouts. But not necessarily because they themselves are scouts, or because they want scouts, *specifically*, to be better. Isn't it the case that someone on the CPM should have DUST's best interests at heart, which should surely be pushing balance and diversity, in line with a vision (whatever CCP think that is or should be)?
I have concerns that a fiercely, purely, pro-scout CPM member would be all about making scouts better, without considering what will make DUST better. Fact right now is, because we're currently hard-mode, those two things are the same. Make scouts better, you make DUST more balanced. But you also have to make the heavies better surely? And every other more specific niche that is imbalanced? How would you even be aware of those?
You can't have a CPM member for every style right? It's not like the CPM individual members should represent each niche of the community is it? A scout rep, a heavy rep, an AR rep, etc. Because you can break that down - stealth scout rep, recon scout rep, heavy point defense rep, heavy AV rep, etc etc etc. Is that how to choose CPM members?
What is needed is a CPM rep that is capable of understanding all those different play styles, all those different possibilities (current and potential future), by engaging with their community peers as well as playing the game themselves. How they play the game themselves is up to them, but when a CPM wants to make his or her own play style better, because it's their play style and not because it makes it more balanced, that's when we've got problems.

Agreed, entirely.
On CPM / Scout Relations: I point to our present relations only to let our brothers know that we're on CPM's radar at the moment. I've identified positions they've taken on the topic of Scouts. Other positions, I've excluded. By excluding other positions, I didn't intend to convey that they've adopted a Scout-only mentality.
On CPM1: I agree that a Scout "activist" focused solely on Scouts would be a poor addition to CPM1. Any candidate, in my mind, should be active, reasonable, well-rounded, and highly experienced. The ideal candidate will be equipped to speak to the topic of Scouts from a position of experience ... ... rather than from a position of theory or assumption.
We don't need or want a Scout zealot, but we do want someone who understands Scouts.
On IWS: I too am often put-off at his handling of the community, but through his post on TTK he has earned my respect and support. IWS has spoken to the root of the problem, and offered excellent ideas on how to fix it. When reading Aeon, I get a distinct vibe of "we need to fix TTK, but don't touch my AR" ... this sort circular reasoning stands in the way of progress.

Yes, you were right, Appia. Guess I needed to see it firsthand.
I still think Aeon's a great guy and would make an excellent CPM candidate. But I can't support him in his present mindset. He'll need to reverse entirely his "don't touch my AR" position, and he'll need to learn to tackle issues head-on rather than dancing about them in prose and theory.
I haven't given up on Aeon, but he needs to prove himself in the months to come. |

IWS, as Nova Knife has said in Scouts United, is supposedly the best secretary ever. I can believe this. That's pretty much why CCP picked him. For all the data collection and IRC recordings he kept. He's . . . well, I think you actually have to have some skill at the game to understand balance, but his capacity to interact with people is at the lowest level.
Jenza... she isn't really a member at all. went MIA for like 6 months. Well known for taking advantage of NDA in May at the start of Planetary Conquest. Used info that only CPM could have known about to lead the first PC AWOXing
Hans: former CSM, appointed to CPM as an intermidiary to help set up the CPM to function on the level of the CSM
Laurent: tied with Hand for most active CPM. A CEO. not gonna find a frenchie on the main English pages.
Kain Spero: He's kind of one of those guys that seems really nice and friendly. and then one day, he stabs you in the back- all with a smile on his face. Kain possessed all the shares to the Corporation "Ancient Exiles" upon learning about shares and the possible take over, AE's leardership took the fast and easy route and created "Ancient Exiles." Having a toy that he never used fall out of his hand, backlash occurred. Plans for Imperfects being revived were quashed.
Nova Knife: he's directly told me he thinks the sniper rifle is balanced or maybe needs some damage reduction. . . This is a great example of a weapon that is balanced at STD level but underpowered at Proto (because balance is based off of limited resource Officer weapon or stacking damage mods)
the CPM were CLosed Beta Players that all did something for the community. They had no confidence from the player base nor much skill at the game. being good shouldn't be a requirement, but when Auto-Aim Aim Assist is directly responsible for an Increase in KDR there is something wrong.
But of this message, the most important thing to note is this: All these people did something for the community, which got them selected, once joining the CPM they stopped doing those exact things. Kain doesn't host tournaments, IWS doesn't post anything and everything he finds out about the next patch, etc.
A nice little message from a CPM1-hopeful and retired Scout Appia Vibbia I hope to return to running Scout >50% of the time one day, but unless the speed, damage, and passive scan related stats are changed significantly I'm only using it for situational advantage.
