True, but I still don't see a reason why I should ever advise a new player to spec into lvl 5 basic suits. It remains a waste of 1mil SP. It makes more sense to save the SP and get into lvl 5 Assaults sooner. I had an idea a while ago which was to make basic suits a blend between logi and assault, basically make them non-specialized suits instead of assaults without the bonus. But I did not get enough good feedback to pursue that idea further. Exactly. There is zero good reason to have any 'basic frame' beyond level 3, in fact it's a 'trap option' to even pretend they're appealing. Better than mlt? Sure. As good as a bonused suit? You're ****ing kidding yourself. If we really want basic medium frames to be used at all then they have to have something the Assault suits don't have. One idea I had was giving basic medium frames a second equipment slot -> make them an unspecialized blend between Assault and Logi. They could do a bit of both but would be less effective than the specialized suits at either. Also, since CPU/PG is tough on BMF, give them a 1% or 2% per level bonus to CPU/PG to make them competitive. But then also make sure the Assault bonus is worth it! (I think the MN and AM Assault bonuses are fine but the GA / CA bonuses could use some work, if you want to believe the general forum chatter.)
Why do they want basic medium frames to be competitive? The whole point I thought was to have the racial. I feel like this is time wasted on something that doesn't really matter.

To me basic frames are content that is there but so poorly implemented that no one uses it, which is kinda sad. By giving basic suits a niche we could easily expand on the variety of suits on the field, make things a bit more interesting, and have more content. And it wouldn't even take much time to implement those changes.

I REALLY wish they would've taken the Eve model for this particular aspect of the game:
Racial Bonus Frame Bonus Role Bonus
In a Gallente Heavy Frame? You get a racial bonus based on your knowledge of Gallente Dropsuits (skill: +5% armor repair module efficiency / lvl) A frame bonus from your level in Heavy Frames (skill: 5% reduction of CPU/PG of heavy weapon fitting requirements / lvl) no role bonus available
In an Amarr Commando? Racial bonus for Amarr Dropsuits (skill: +5% module efficacy of armor plates / lvl) Frame bonus for Heavy Frames (skill: 5% reduction of CPU/PG of heavy weapon fitting requirements / lvl) Role bonus for Ammar Commando (skill: 5% more damage with laser weaponry / lvl)
In a Caldari Light Frame? Racial bonus: Caldari Dropsuits (skill: +5% module efficacy for shield regulators) Frame Bonus: Light Frame (skill: -5% fitting cost of cloaking module) Role Bonus : Caldari Scout (skill: +5% Ewar module efficacy bonus)
just examples but yea. In that model, all the "frames" would be useful for anyone who doesnt care for the specific role bonus but could still collect racial and frame bonuses if they have those skills up. Gives us a reason to take things to lvl 5.
I've made that thread before, people discussed, dev silence, lost the heart to fight for it.

I think I am going to take another break from playing the game, minus any corp times I am able to set up.
The only reason I even semi enjoyed myself was because I didn't care, and just flat out ran at people. Even then it wasn't that it was fun, just that it wasn't frustrating because I didn't care (I lost damn near 20 clones a couple games).
Today, I actually tried to survive, and just couldn't. Knifing is way too difficult to try and main on a Minja. If I dampen, I am super low HP and die really quickly. Even if I flank, there is usually someone that can see you, even while cloaked, and kill you unless they are so inaccurate they couldn't hit the broad side of the MCC from 10 m out.
I can't for the life of me understand how HP mods like armor can have such a low fitting cost but if you want to fit KinCats or CBs, you have to pay up the wazoo in CPU and PG, because apparently those mods are super OP and they wouldn't want my little Minja to get to 300 HP by being able to also fit Shields.
I really don't understand how people in PC are killing with Minjas, but I don't think it can be with NKs unless they are hacking.
And don't get me starting on that stupid clunky cloak delay glitch. Tired of running at people who saw me without having my knives, just because I tried to pull out my knives while evading in the wrong order. Because a 200 HP Minja is so OP with knives and so hard to kill that we should just be relegated to running without weaponry...

Practicing with a 2x Mybo and 2x Kincat with Min Scout
I remember why I hated low HP Min Scouts.
Melee hit detection is still aggravating. So is backpedal (NK + Flaylock)
Those should be fixed soon though. Backpedal will fix a lot of problems with melee detection and NK.
I'm excited, to say the least.

Changing scenery and servers might help.
Try getting into a squad w/ Jebus, Haerr or Summer if they happen to be on when you're on. l always enjoy running with these guys, and I think you'll find that euro matches to be a nice change of pace from ours, even if they're slightly laggy.
If you're not doing it already, running in a smaller squad tends to be more fun; some of the best times I've had were in a 3-man squad with Jolly and Noob.
If you prefer running in larger squads, try turning your coms off entirely. I personally find that this improves my performance. For some reason, it also keeps me in a good mood longer.
I don't find it necessary when running with most of the NN guys; Scouts tend to keep coms tactical ... and I love it.

"After making the Starter loadouts much better, we ran into the issue of PG/CPU capacity. The situation was tricky because Militia and Standard Basic Frames were not in parity, and we wanted to simplify fitting so that all starter fits had the same PG/CPU capacity. However, we also had an old issue we could fix at the same time, Basic Medium Frames have been underpowered for a while and the solution was simple. Massively increase and equalize all Basic Medium Frame capacity, make them worth skilling up to Prototype, and give Militia Dropsuits a reduced, fixed % of Standard capacity. So thatGÇÖs what we did. Coupled with the fact that we reduced the ISK cost of Basic Dropsuits in a recent hotfix, will hopefully make them viable choices for battle. To fine-tune the Starter loadouts, and increase parity of militia choices, we also made tweaks to the PG/CPU requirements of a few militia items as well." Apparently Basic Medium Frames will get better CPU/PG than Assaults, or at least the MN BMF will. Spreadsheet Hotfix EchoEDIT: Though I forgot that Assault gets 25% fitting bonus for light/sidearm/grenades. So the BMF fitting buff is not as massive as it sounded initially But it is massive nonetheless.
It's almost just as advantageous to run Basic Medium Frames as opposed to their Assault counterparts. Point in case: The Gallente Assault, which receives a 25% CPU/PG reduction even at level five toward it's weaponry - this equates to 13 CPU/3 PG reduction on a Prototype Assault Rifle. That's not a lot of difference - the only thing you'd really be saving on is Sidearms and Grenades and even then it's sort of min/maxy.
25% is still a decent bonus but it's sort of de-valued now. I don't think the 2,000,000+ SP is worth investing in for such a slight reduction in PG/CPU and a useless dispersion bonus. It'd only really be worth it if you were making -REALLY- tight fits but at that point you might as well invest the 2,000,000 SP into things like Light Weapon Operation or Assault Rifle Fitting Optimization.
EDIT: I don't think this really helps new players as much as makes for a confusing progression into the Assault. It must be made very clear to a newer player that the Assault sacrifices base PG/CPU for a percentage based reduction when compared to the Basic Frame and that, early on, t's essentially a downgrade upon first progressing into the Assault and requires a few levels into it to really feel any advantageous effects.
Just my two ISK.

I for one am kinda pissed off they're doing this, other wise I wouldn't have wasted the millions of SP to unlock Gallente Assault (which I run an ARR on...) and instead would've just specced the basic frame.

Absolutely true. These calculations assume a launch angle of 45 degrees. We don't know what angle the engine uses, but we know that it isn't 90 degrees or zero degrees, so I assumed the center point between the extremes.
You've got me thinking though :-)
Is launch angle fixed at X degrees, or does it adjust downward toward zero as velocity increases?

Plates affect speed which is why they affect jump height. Confused. Sprint speed is a speed. So is walk speed. If I jump while walking, I travel less far than if I jump while sprinting. If jump increases, such that I jump further while walking, won't I also jump further while sprinting? What am I missing? Aren't we talking about jump height? Jump distance is mostly irrelevant I think Aero asked the same question, so I did some more research: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2661603#post2661603TL;DR: Jump Distance and Jump Height are both determined by velocity. Well I mean, even assuming that physics are the same in Dust as they are in real life (which is a huge assumption), this scenario is only taking into account jumps that are happening off a slope Good point.
I mean, just think about inertia IRL vs Dust.

Probably had to override the physics engine to disable infantry movement inertia. Probably had to override the physics engine to add jumps to MyoFibs :-)

I for one am kinda pissed off they're doing this, other wise I wouldn't have wasted the millions of SP to unlock Gallente Assault (which I run an ARR on...) and instead would've just specced the basic frame. Assaults are still way better than medium frames. Don't forget they have lots more hp and more module slots.
