Please keep the feedback coming, Varoth. 1. Probably best to look at buffs then, rather than complete changes. Best to try fixing range amps first though. Are Amarr scouts really that bad? Different scouts don't really have / need drastically different roles. They just do the same thing, scout, in slightly different ways. 3. Range amps still need fixing. I think they should only work on the larger scan circles to prevent the issues you bring up. 4. It's a combination of many factors, cloak blind being one. The slayer migration was (reasonably) gradual. I could get behind 3 if its feasible.
I personally think the cloak delay is as significant a factor as any. Many of the old slayers loved to use the shoot from cloak mechanic.

Fix this and I think Amarr scout would be in a balanced place.
AlsoGǪ I would like to see the Tacnet fixed so that the "new" suits did not show up as a V that tells everybody which way they are facing.

The friend of mine who wanted me to pick up the game prepared a full install for me with all the patches done. I just haven't gotten to learning it yet. Have you checked out Melty Bread? There is no better resource for learning the game, as far as I know. If anything, I need to start learning that game just to get to play Kishima Kouma. SO MUCH HYPE.

I understand the defensiveness. You have ISK. You have SP. You have friends. What else is there to use it for?
You run PC... For what? To get ISK. Why? To give you an advantage. Which feeds back into pubs.
But ultimately Dust is built around a level of customisation and RPG leveling that just doesn't work in a lobby shooter. But that's because Dust wasn't designed to be just a lobby shooter.
Also our system of matchmaking is shockingly sub-par.
All this adds up to our current state of burning through a shocking number of new players.
It's hilarious, my very first thread on these forums was a post suggessting meta level pubs, and the response was (paraphrasing) "lol get gud" from people who don't even play any more. I even included math in it showing the differences between a day one player and proto was insane compared to day one proto and maxed skilled standard. Not that it stopped anyone using that excuse (and they still do now).
We'll bang, OK?

@ Adipem
I don't want to discount your scout bonus ideas. It does make sense, in principle, to buff the scanning bonused scouts in light of the general nerfing of passive scans. And your idea sounds like good way to do it. It's just, it depends how people feel about it, and data, and feasability.
I just think it unlikely that Caldari and Amarr scouts are performing poorly enough for us to get consensus on changing the bonus, and convince CCP and the wider community that it needs completely changing (in the case of Amarr), and then pacify the Amarr scout users who just find their bonus changing.
See how others feel, but I just don't see it as a big enough issue to warrent such drastic action. There are lots of other balancing issues for CCP to work on still.
Minor tweaks may be a better way to go at this time. Such as range amps.
Actually, thinking about it. Caldari scouts are still awesome on paper. I don't use them, and haven't read anything, other than their fall from being OP. I mean, they have the same damp bonus as Gallente, which is awesome, and they have good scan range ontop, which as I showed earlier, can be very usefull with just one precision enhancer.
Amarr might be a bit weak, comparatively, but have scouts ever been more balanced than now? |

I'll be honest, I started playing way back when "Get gud" actually was a solution: Chromosome. The learning curve didn't change with players, but rather with new updates. Way back when the proto suits had 33% more health than new players and the damage came down to aim and who shot first. I've watched a dozen of my friends go from "Lock and load!" to "We're gonna lose" mentalities very quickly.
TTK, Veteran Catering, and superior resources enable many (myself included) to stomp out all interest in new players. What makes people enjoy games? Winning, success, and comrades.

I'm wondering if Meta lock will actually fix anything. The top tier could very well end up empty because no one wants to face the protostompers. When that happens, the protostompers just pop down a league, they're not going to stop playing. Thus, they stomp anyway.
Of course it is just speculation.

Of course it is just speculation. I think the meta lock with the 4 man squad will do a lot to make things better.
Plus, Rattati said in his thread on whether Mu is working or not that he is looking into the way the game actually pulls people into battle.
What I don't get is how it went from Ok, to abysmal nearly overnight.
Also, does anyone else find that they stop sprinting for no explanation? I don't know if its just me or because I am using the DS4, but sometimes I just stop sprinting with over half my stamina left and I am only changing direction with the right stick. Its gotten me killed several times and is annoying.

Way back in 1.6 I did some math on it, so things have changed since then.
But looking at the basic stats. DPS, HP,rep rate etc. I compared 3 builds. Day one player vs maxed out vet in standard gear. Average difference was ~+30% to those stats And day one player vs maxed out vet in Proto average difference was ~+110% to those stats. (IIRC) That's not an insignificant difference.
Meta locking isn't going to solve ALL problems, but it is going to be an improvement. Getting the first few shots off on the vet could make the difference, rather than the current issue which is that it can often times just not matter.
If proto gear was irrelevant and it was all about SP. Where's the amazing players dominating PC in standard gear? (I'm not saying they're not out there, but they are definately in the minority).
We'll bang, OK?

Just today I had a stomp on Ashland where I did nothing but hack (somehow the enemy team was hacking B, which was one of our home points, while I was still 150 m out...) and wasted a good 11 suits in my effort. Needless to say I quit shortly after.
One thing I am also curious about is how Quaffe suits affect this kind of info. I was looking for my suit, then I though, well I run a Quaffe M-1 so that wouldn't show up on the marketplace...

I personally love running Minja. Moreso than the former FOTM calscout. It's because of the speed/stamina bonuses, and very useful bonuses. Coupled with the right combination of mods and an Ishy knife, and it's deadly.
Calscout can't be anything more than a CR/RR/SG platform, and a bad one at that.
Galscout is #1 because of regen, hP, dampening bonus, versatility, and being the easiest to fit a cloak on. Also best SG platform.
Please buff my Magsex. It doesn't hit hard enough...

Thoughts? We can't afford to make big, sweeping changes that take many months to fine tune at this stage in the game's life. Unless there is a major problem to address and a straightforward end goal - as was the case with sidearm rebalancing - there's no need to make such humongous changes to game balance as this. I see no reason to throw everything up in the air and mess with roles that have existed for years when most suits are just a few integer tweaks away from being balanced. Integer tweaks alone aren't going to fix the Role Bleed in the Recon Department. But I see your point; too many moving parts. Will try again ... Idea: EWAR Untangled, V2.0 (now with Integer Tweaks!)* CA Scout - Change bonus to Scan Precision + Range * AM Scout - Change bonus to Biotics Efficacy * GA Logi - Change bonus to Scan Duration + Cooldown * Pro Active Scanners - Buff 20dB to 18 dB, 28dB to 25 dB * Adv Active Scanners - Buff 36 dB to 33 dB * Bsc Active Scanners - Buff 46 dB to 40 dB * Cloak - Reduce cloak-blind from 85% to 45% * Logis - Buff non-EWAR attribute(s) (i.e. speed, tank, pricing, EQ performance, etc) EWAR Untangled, V2.1 (to follow)If GalLogi remains only competitive recon unit, reduce cloak-blind from 45% to 25% If CalScout becomes the only competitive recon unit, increase cloak-blind from 45% to 65% If GalLogi and CalScout appear to be "sharing" the role of competitive recon, then make no change This is MUCH better, but I'm still wary. Wouldn't a better solution be to make active scans not shared with the whole team? That seems to have been the biggest catalyst for all this role bleeding.

* Remove Scan Range, Scan Precision bonuses from CA and AM Scouts. * Buff Scan Precision and/or Range of all Logis. * Remove and replace bonus to Active Scans from GA Logi. * Racially rebrand Active Scanners (AM Scanners squad-wide, CA Scanners team-wide). * AM Scout receives Precision and/or Duration bonus to AM Scanners. * CA Scout receives Cooldown and/or Range bonus to CA Scanners. * Tune Passive and Active Scans where needed to adjust for any imbalance.
There's no problem with it being shared with the whole team, if one person sees you on the Tacnet, they can merely just call you out and now everyone knows regardless.
