This whole discussion has made me reconsider my choice in scout suits. Instead of Amarr, I'm leaning toward Gal and Cal for their bonuses involving scanning.

Active scanners can scan through "static mesh" parts of the terrain and surface installations, but passive scanning can only go through surface installations. It means that people can hide from your omniscient passive scanns behind dips and hills on certain maps when you do not have the high-ground. This... Having a heavy get the drop on you at point blank, die, come back and look at him through my sights to show >1000 armour. No dampeners... This is rage worthy. I'm sure there's some sort of lag involved as well. As sometimes it just randomly occurs, my passives show nobody then blip, suddenly there's somebody right on the other side of the wall, as if they just spawned there. Now when are HAVs going to have a profile we can pick up on passive? Passive Scan on Ambush, or Passive Scan near objective is pretty bad. They spawn in before they show up on radar. I want to think that it is working as intended. that is is programmed delay. . . so they have something they can change, which would be easier than finding the problem and fixing it
It's because of the anti-spawn kill function where you're cloaked for up to 5 seconds if you don't move. It makes it seem like they just popped up but they really were there the whole time. Ambush makes it even more annoying since they spawn almost anywhere.

Scout weapons Question: Is the ion pistol viable for ambushing foes?
350 charge shot damage and most suits unless they're heavy or upgraded are 330 ehp or less
Currently I use a Toxin smg but I'd like to 1 shot my foes instead of reloading mid fight

Currently I use a Toxin smg but I'd like to 1 shot my foes instead of reloading mid fight Depends on if the Overheat locks up your gun. If yes: Then it will be terrible. You can't OHK with it, and it will be useless after the overheat If not: Yes. Overheat + Melee or Another weapon. Should do the job quite well.
So, I'll playtest it once or twice to get an idea of it. Thank you

A chunk of reality: Most people use ADV suits. and the ADV slots on all scouts, are ALMOST IDENTICAL. So I would imagine there isnt much any difference, from that perspective :-D Lower levels, though, you get stuck with the whole 3H/1L, vs opposite, so that would make a huge difference I imagine. Higher levels, its one of 4/2 3/3 2/4 2/4 So, back to "not much difference", unless you're comparing caldari to non-minmatar. reminder to people who want the numbers: http://web.ccpgamescdn.com/dust/news.control/65875/1/scouts18.jpg
You're right, but I'm considering passive bonuses that'll make a greater effect at a higher tier. I want to establish a baseline since each have their own speed, stamina, and ehp. I'm trying them out without Aurum.

So many FotM players but many appear to be trying roles that didn't exist before. I need more sp to adv my scout suits. Amarr, Cal, and Gal all have their merits to me.
Also, does flux deactivate cloaks? It should in my opinion, provided it isn't spammed.

Hell, one time I topped the leader boards using the Rail Rifle, Flaylock, Nanohives and Uplinks (Those last two gave me a crap tonne of points) and I still had a guy ***** to me about cloak abuse. It's just a transition of the FoV and flanking QQ that was occuring before. Because they didn't see a scout coming, he must have been clacked... At least they've moved on from blaming poor situational awareness on scouts glitching

I haven't tried it recently but it has a decent "chug" to it when firing. It lets you know exactly when the next shot is going once you're used to it. Perfect for timing the next shot.
I give it 6.5/10 due to it's dps

Dust is a fast paced game. People will go to any length to put the blame elsewhere.
"Invisible Scouts"
"OP Weapon"
"Additional QQ"
It's not impossible to detect other players, all you need is a strong scanner/dedicated to that role. Same for remaining hidden cloak/dampeners. It's a game of countering one thing or another: Out range, out shoot, out live, out scan, out flank, out do.
It's a harsh learning curve but it's necessary to build.

@ Murt - I hope I haven't given the impression that I think cloaks are actually OP - a few balance issues aside at worst I find dealing with cloaks almost as annoying as snipers or heavy+LAVs. 'Almost' because bad clackers are actually easy kills.
I didn't get that opinion at all, I was just giving my feedback on the whole QQ/Nerf issue. It won't go away since people know they have some kind of say. They'll fight until they're the top fit and untouchable (ie forever since there's no way ccp will break the game entirely)
I used to QQ back in uprising 1.0 but that was because I wasn't used to change. I'm content to just enjoy myself and if things go poorly, I wait a few weeks and then spend my new sp.
Thanks for the discussion, Yan

And Breach ScP is great for taking out those tunnel vision snipers. 3 in one nest, not one looked up as I took down their friends with a single headshot each
Cloak is something like a new suit of it's own. It takes a lot of cpu and pg to use and it makes you dedicated to a certain role.

Imagine the following scenario. Guy has Scan precision of 20 and a scan range of 20 metres. As it stands, a suit with the scan profile of 20 is passively picked up at the same range as a tank with 200
The basic concept that's been rattling around my head is: If you have half the precision of the scanned's profile, then you pick them up from 1.5 times the distance. So the guy with 20 profile is scanned from the standard 20 metres of the scanner, but one with 40 profile would be picked up from 30 metres.
Thoughts?
And if they're dampened, would you need to get closer?
I'm thinking it'd work like a radio signal with ranging strengths from almost no signal (blips) to always visible

Also, having done the maths, that tank (if it's correct) would be scannable from 300(ish)metres. That seem excessive?
Considering the weapon ranges, they'd be able to hit us at that range so 300 meters is fair for a large vehicle.

If you just try to start a corp from scratch, you'll struggle. If you have a bunch of friends who are already up for being in the corp together, you'll have a much easier time. Otherwise, you're going to need something strong to offer that will actually draw people to you. You could always go the Duna or CBJ route and invite everyone you ever see and numbers will grow but you'll end up with hundreds of people you don't know and they'll mostly be useless.
Good to know, looks like my alt is getting promoted to ceo while I get corp experience

EDIT: When I say it hasn't changed, I mean the techniques involved: not buff/nerf Best thing you could do is to get those skills maxed. Try a hacking fit, its lots of fun and helps get WP even when getting stomped. PLC is lots of fun. Also try the Flaylock, they go great with knives (though I don't know there is a MLT variety).

eWAR is removed from pubs 9/10 times. Remember what I said earlier? Without eWAR, scouts are almost useless to run.
Think if it this way, you don't bring AV out if there aren't any tanks. You don't bring a scout out unless there is a reason too.
It's a specialized suit. You can still run it, but expect to have not much to do that round. Just play careful and do your job when you can
Want to know why people hate PC corps in pubs? It because we know how to shut down people who can't adapt.
We bring scans and watch everyone run around trying to make that scout assault work. Smart ones pull out the damp fit and get to work
This is why I went back to my Logi roots. I've only played in pub matches because I honestly fear trying PC or FW. As a scout I was either always scanned by Gal Logis or unable to earn back the isk I was losing.
As much as the "build your own class" mentality exists, there are dedicated roles for each suit and in some cases race.
Any advice for one who wants to try FW or PC as a "Scout in training"?

I played the MCC manufacturing map for Skirmish. It's a lot of catwalks and ladders with basement points. Angles and platforming are a sure way to control the area.

They held the point with a squad of heavies with GAL Logi support with scanners.
Scanned, I was on the balcony above the objective and they kept sending in grunts from the roof to take me out. I got gud with my new knives that match. Couldn't do a thing about the objective, but distracting 6-8 guys just by being nearby was worth it!

I bet the BPO will be related to something they haven't released a BPO for in a while if at all
Assault RR/CR or maybe an HAV (Though that's kinda niche)
Maybe they'll give a list and let all those who participate choose 1 item so no one is disappointed. I honestly am just glad they're rewarding players still.
Side note: Does anyone have tips for using the Rail Rifle and its variants? I always have trouble with it

You run PC... For what? To get ISK. Why? To give you an advantage. Which feeds back into pubs.
But ultimately Dust is built around a level of customisation and RPG leveling that just doesn't work in a lobby shooter. But that's because Dust wasn't designed to be just a lobby shooter.
Also our system of matchmaking is shockingly sub-par.
All this adds up to our current state of burning through a shocking number of new players.
It's hilarious, my very first thread on these forums was a post suggessting meta level pubs, and the response was (paraphrasing) "lol get gud" from people who don't even play any more. I even included math in it showing the differences between a day one player and proto was insane compared to day one proto and maxed skilled standard. Not that it stopped anyone using that excuse (and they still do now).
I'll be honest, I started playing way back when "Get gud" actually was a solution: Chromosome. The learning curve didn't change with players, but rather with new updates. Way back when the proto suits had 33% more health than new players and the damage came down to aim and who shot first. I've watched a dozen of my friends go from "Lock and load!" to "We're gonna lose" mentalities very quickly.
TTK, Veteran Catering, and superior resources enable many (myself included) to stomp out all interest in new players. What makes people enjoy games? Winning, success, and comrades.
I vote for the Metalock/League system

Extenders, I want the lower slots free for electronics and biotics.
4 suits for variety and the Amarr Scout because I want to "Find a way to make it work". If I had to cut suits it'd be Amarr Assault and drop the Amarr scout to Adv
3 rifles because each have an appeal to them. Assault would be the 1 I'd cut though.

Firewall Idea: Objectives hacked by those with Codebreakers take a percentage longer for those attempting to retake it. Hack with a codebreaker and those without codebreakers would take longer. Not a default bonus like the skill or Minjas but ONLY with the modules.
I know there are issues with this approach, but it'd be easy to implement.

Bring in the Yellow, Orange, Purple, and Black Biotics! Combat Stimulants forever!
Passive and active would be awesome! Activate the biotic to sprint at 200% for 5 seconds with a 30 second-1 minute cooldown. Same with Melee damage, or jump height, or any biological bonus.

In a nutshell, I want there to be a more level playing field in pubs between newbs and vets. But I'm not going to create this level playing field myself, because I want to win more than anything.
I'd move for a difficulty/meta level selection like picking Skirmish, Ambush, Domination, Factional etc. Higher payouts in higher levels, but bigger allowances for suits and gear.

I don't think so. I know there was a temporary time to change race, but that's gone I think. Changing names have never been possible It is possible. I used to be head staff in a online game server called Dark Gunz, changing names is just going into the data base. But the question is would they do me that favor lol Put it this way, it's not technically impossible, seeing as our very own Dildo McNutz is now known as something else (I forget what).

Raids will be a more casual, potentially mercenary-like means by which to participate in PC. They will serve primarily to annoy and pillage overextended landholders. If this becomes destiny like I'll laugh my motherfucking face off. Very different uses of the word raid. Destiny uses the terrible mmorpg definition which is content that is locked away from 90% of the playerbase and takes far too much effort to do for far too little gain. Raids in Dust appear to be geared towards a battle serving no purpose other than to get as much loot as possible from a district. Can we change it to "Pillage" or "Pirate" or "Warlord" mode? Just so the link is harder to make.
Make it unique by giving isk for destroyed installations or stolen shipments. Hack and buy time while shuttles come to take the crates away. Just reverse the vehicle drop off mechanics. Have System hacks that mess with clone production or weapon stores.
Selectively destructible environment: certain buildings, maybe doors for breaching, and items to take or sabotage
THAT is a raid or Warlord activity right there

Can I get you guys' feedback on a new game mode idea?
Theft / Sabotage / Pirate mode
Crates of weapons, consoles with module code / recipes / schematics and Vehicle garages
The objective is to steal / destroy or defend whichever of the above items spawn.
One team (The attackers) are required to hack objectives to access the items. Once they gain access, they must either destroy the consoles, crates, or vehicles or steal them. Similar to the vehicle delivery system, AI controlled fliers can be called in to remove crates and vehicles while transmissions can be used to send the recipes or schematics to their accompanying warbarge.
The attackers win if they steal / destroy more items than the defenders
The defenders are required to secure their objectives to safeguard the items. Securing the objectives involves "over-hacking" where it takes longer than normal for the attackers to hack objectives. The defenders win if they keep their objectives safe.
Alternately it could just be a race to transmit recipes and schematics from a central hub. Rival warlords fighting for advanced technology.
Wining gives a handful of aurum variants at either standard or advanced level or a large portion of ISK
I want to try for more objectives than just destroy the MCC with 5 Null cannons or 1 Null cannon. Steal something, make it more interactive. Add Breachable doors, be it hacking or demolition.
Comments?

I loved it when they brought in a pistol for each race and same with the Rifles. Knives and AV are all I can think of for infantry gear that could use a racial version.
I could see the Minmatar having Haywire Blades that have the added effect of brief HUD static. Give the Amarr an Honor Edge with sheer brute force and slower charge. Give the Gallente a Plasma Knife that leaves a 3s bleed effect that further delays shield regen.

You should try it. I'll bet you miss your first 100 attempts with both. Agreed. It's not even a consideration. Even if I get/got one I wouldn't even know the difference. It doesn't trigger the head gong (unless something changed) and they were dead either way. I never get the headshot gong anymore. I get plenty of +60 headshots though. Also have got a lot of +60 headshots and watched someone revive them. The gong is still a feature, but it's often covered up by other battlefield sounds now. It's mainly heard when sniping because your boots aren't clunking and there aren't bullets flying at you (If you're doing it right).

@ mollerz
I too want to see a narrative addition to the game. Sure I'm Amarr by blood, but I've run a suit from each race at one point or another. I used to be hardcore Min Logi and had it as a blood-traitor who sympathized with the Minmatar. Now I run Gal Scout, so I guess I'm betraying the political ideals I was bred with. Liberty and money!
A damage mod for 5 million clones made sense, but why not give a blurb about it? The deaths of 5 million clones enabled the development of Krin's damage mod to better amplify standard battlefield weaponry damage against infantry. In other words, destroyed suits gave information about "weak spots" on them.
Let's have the Warlords of this update do something worthy of the name.

??? That's honestly one of the silliest things I've heard you say. Scouts are all about sneaking, espionage, running interference and taking objectives. A hacking bonus fits perfectly. By contrast, logistics are slow, weak, visible, and meant to stick with groups and provide direct combat support. Why would it make sense for them to get a bonus that encourages the exact opposite? Squad pushes for objectives. That's my thought anyways
