As for Active Scanner improvements, I'll elaborate: * Proto Vanilla - No Change. * Proto Focused - Buff Cooldown to 30 sec; buff Visibility to 10 sec. * Proto Quantum - Buff Cooldown to 30 sec. * Proto Proximity - Buff scan angle from 45 to 90 degrees; nerf cooldown to 15 sec. * Proto Flux - Nerf scan angle from 90 to 60 degrees. * Set Proximity and Flux to team-share; add lesser WP intel assist. * Set Vanilla, Focused and Quantum to squad-share.
I disagree with the notion that scouts should lose their strength in precision. Firstly, AM and CA Scout roles are based upon recon; we can't strip away these roles and retain racial parity. Secondly, high-intensity scans by high-HP units would introduce new and significant imbalance. To be honest, this would probably work nicely, with scout efficiency bonuses and hp mod drawbacks. Much simpler and less likely to break things than all my ideas. |

Secondly, high-intensity scans by high-HP units would introduce new and significant imbalance. I like the scanner idea I would say buff range to all suits other than scouts and maybe reduce the cloak range penalty to 50% at the least 25% at most. Give scout back some of a reason to want to use range/precison mods since everything else is being taken away.

Vitantur Nothus wrote:@ But My Skillz, Brah Which of the following more aptly describes the state of strafing in Dust 514? A) Moving deliberately in attempt to throw an opponent's aim. B) Spraying frantically while mashing ADAD or wiggling thumb.
@ But My Shields, Brah Not as frequently as before, but I still bump into heavily shielded CalScouts running Reactives or Ferros. These units -- arguably the best wigglers around -- would walk away unscathed by a strafe nerf to vanilla plates. Because of these units, I'm inclined to agree with Rattati in that shields should also be under the scope. But for the MinScout! Most are extremely squishy and entirely reliant upon their shield buffer; their lows are committed damps, kincats or codebreakers (seldom King HP). A hefty sig nerf to shield extenders would assuredly slam the MinScout, but again, the uparmored CalScout dodges the bullet. What care hath the CalScout for stealth when we need only wiggle when fired upon?
What to do ... what to do. You guys have any ideas?
(TPLAK) I honestly don't see a problem at this point with the speed penalty to shields. Rattati made a good point that whatever generates that shield has weight.
He also pointed out that it would be a much lower penalty because of lower weight, so I don't know that it would be too onerous a penalty.
I think that giving how hard it is for Minmatar to beat scans as it is, if the penalty were to profile instead of speed that it would have a much greater detrimental effect for Minjas.

In my limited day of playing with the changes, I was shot by shotgunners and a bolt pistol from invisibility head on.
Perhaps the clunkiness prevents some of it, but yuck. I wish the penalty could have been implemented in a smoother fashion. I felt like I was fighting with the controls the whole time.

How about making the cooldown of ACSs tied to the suit?
That way, if they switch out they'll still have to wait for the cooldown to end.

This is the thing I worry about across all suits and in Balance discussions. The tendency is to lump all things as a roleGǪ without the considerations about how it affects each suit in that role. This goes for Role Buffs and Nerfs, if one factional suit is doing much better than the others and you buff the role as a whole, we end up with the suit that was good before over performing, we nerf a role because one or two suits are over performing and the ones that war okay or under performing become way less viable.
Factions all function under different principle as well, and some aspects of the role lend well to functions. Look at Commandos, Min Commando does great at AV(better than most suits), should all Commandos take a nerf to AV (assuming it were OP) or should the Min be adjusted. Arguments could be made that they have OP Wallhacks with the new Vehicle detection rangeGǪ and Commandos should not get that crutchGǪ (No i am not seriousGǪ but one day someone will say it seriously)
Maybe sometimes we (Dust Community) should look at the bottom performer in the role and ask "is this working? Should we bring this up to the others or the others down to this? It may work better than nerf the role because XFaction is OP.

I know Rattati showed us top 5 performers in PC, but I would like to see a larger list to see where all suits fit in. This would give us a better idea of what needs adjusted and what needs protected.

This really isn't as unreasonable as you think it is. Make a thread about it in the Features. I for one would love if scouts had to rely on logis for good scans. |
