And I agree with One Eyed King regarding Nova Knives. Hit detection gets wonky sometimes, sure. And there've been a lot of times where I'll have a full charge on the knives, let go of the bumper and... nothing happens. The knives don't slash, don't stab, nothing. And the guy I was sneaking up behind, he walks backwards right at that moment (somehow walking backwards THROUGH me) and I die. Because the attack never happened. This is aggravating, and hopefully you can duplicate it and figure out why it happens and fix it - I die on average twice a match just because of that.
But the most important, valuable change you could give knifers is to slow backpedaling to 85-90% of forward movement speed. I walk backwards slow as hell on the warbarge and in my merc quarters. Why, oh, why does everyone backpedal at full speed on the battlefield?
I don't need more damage. I need to have a fighting chance when the 1800+hp proto sentinel turns around because his CalScout buddy blew my cover (and yes, I do run all complex damps in my lows on my Adv. and LP Proto suits, including proto cloak on the proto suit - I AM choosing to sacrifice speed for stealth, but I don't have an extra couple of million SP saved up to go Gallente).
In fact, if backpedal speed were slowed down, I'd even be okay with losing the Minmatar Scout bonus to knife damage.

I can slash twice before I can charge hit someone and also be moving the entire time. IMHO, charge swiping is nice for certain situations, but worthless in quick moving CQC. Most times, I can;t even disengage.. I'm all in at that point. I may as well crouch down and let them kill me if I run. The last ditch effort is to go into a sprint for a split second and jump with the inertia in that direction with the intent to land at the side of your prey and then slash fest them. That is how it has to be. Unless there is some immediate cover around you that you can hide behind, get a charge, and come out swinging, its pretty much sprinting at them and hoping for the best. It is fun the few times it actually works in your favor though.
If I may- it is best to try and orbit and slash. If you nail the trajectory it's a wrap for anyone. Conversely if you are off.. good luck finding them again. slash and pray at that point.

And I dunno, man. I been seeing a lot more ZN's in the killfeed lately - I think despite the suit's shortcomings and the knives' difficulty there are a few folks out there discovering the fun of it. All we need is proto stompers losing too much ISK in pubs to come here and be a whining vocal minority on the forums...

Unfortunately I don't have time right now to read all the posts since the Charlie announcement. I just wanted to say that I support trying out some knife adhesion, assuming it's not ridiculously good and takes the skill out.
I agree with reducing backpedal speed, however I disagree with the majority here who feel it is the biggest problem with knifing. Personally I don't mind too much giving up a knife attack if my opponent turns around in time. It's annoying, but a much bigger problem for me is when you go to knife someone from behind or side, and they suddenly change direction at the last second, causing your attack to miss and in most cases certain death. Adhesion, I would hope, would make it easier to track the sudden movement shift and land your knife hits.
Also, code breakers in highs - great. Amarr and Cal bonuses - I like it on the face of it, but I haven't really had time to think about it or read other peoples opinions about it. |

Ok, caught up with the barbershop. I'm pleased most people seem to like the proposed suit bonuses. I like them. If they were changed to module efficiency bonuses at a later date the Cal bonus would have to stay innate to allow the fitting of damps.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to Hear's table wouldn't a Gal scout still need 2 damps to avoid an Amarr scout's scans? I don't see a problem with this.
As for focused scanners on Gal logis, I'm still hopeful that the limitations of active scanners will balance them. Wouldn't the limited scan arc and long cool downs make constantly spamming 4 focused scanners unreliable enough to discourage the tactic. Would it be worth doing this all battle without even guaranteeing catching the enemy's scouts. Not to mention the fact that Gal scouts can dampen to 14 with only 2 damps and an active proto cloak. Surely the 21db flux and quantum scanners would be much more common. Meaning in most situations, Amarr scouts would have the strongest scans?

I don't mind getting busted when a target checks his six and happens to spot me. What gets me is that moment just before the strike; you're 2m meters and closing, fully charged and just as you release, your target randomly sidesteps. If he isn't a buffoon he'll insta-spin and backpedal, and you will never catch him.

This is a great alternative; assuming we can't nerf backpedal speed, this would be another way to solve the problem.

1. Yes, we're thinking the proposed changes would work out well.
2. Max-skilled AM Scout precision is 18 dB; max-skilled CA Scout is 20 dB. GA Scout will need to two complex damps to beat AM precision; non-GA-Scout will need two damps plus proto cloak: on..
IDEA
If we changed cloak's active dampening bonus from 0-5-10 to 5-7-9, non-GA Scouts could dip below 18 dB scans while running advanced cloak . This may make for more rewarding interplay between hunter/hunted. What do you guys think?
3. GA Logis took a hit simply because the CA Scout did the job better. Improvements to the AS were made, but the scannerina is still very real. Appia is likely right that we'll see a return of perma-scan post-Charlie. I'm not in favor of removing the Focused Scanner, but I would support matching its precision to the AM Scout max such that we'd have a common precision baseline at 18dB.

re: back-pedaling speed. It's a silly mechanic, it makes no sense, and you make battles more realistic by reducing the speed.
It doesn't just affect knives, it affects all short range encounters....but sure, knives more so. It even affects how you utilise situation awareness.
If there's an option to change it it's a far better choice than hacking a fix in for knives. Because there's a strong possibility if back-pedaling was then fixed in a future release, the buff to knives to counter it would need removing....and wouldn't be. We've seen it before with other mechanics.
Fix it right if possible.

1) Set precision of GA Logi + Focused to match AM Scout max precision (18dB). 2) Change cloak dampening bonus from 0-5-10 to 5-7-9. 3) Increase walk speed when Nova Knives are equipped.
Thoughts? Other ideas?

100% favor of moving CBs from Lows to Highs. 100% (or close to it) favor of a slight reduction to backpedal speed.
Though the latter we recognize will only find support among SG and NK users; it would be ardently opposed by the fine-rifle-wielding masses. Even if its the right thing to do, many here would advise our favorite CPM candidate to not sign off this one. :-)

Majority of scouts want backpedaling reduced, though it is not popular internally with CCP (why? who knows...).
