Just watched Cyrius' video on the Ion Pistol. He was way too quick to dismiss the Charge Shot. And in response to not being able to one-shot adv and up suits, how often exactly does one come across an enemy with full health, especially when flanking? Not much in my experience. The charge shot is usually enough to down these guys.
Not saying it couldn't do with some lovin', but it seems to be glanced over far too easily.

Are there any benefits to them that cannot be found in the SMG line of weapons? RANGE Much worse in CQC compared to the SMG, but the MSMG has insane range at high levels (For a bullet hose). Eh? http://web.ccpgamescdn.com/dust/news.control/65845/1/4.jpgseems to indicate that magsec range isnt all that great. base has optimal range of 40, and proto has 48?
48m OPTIMAL and 66 for effective range for a sidearm. That's only a little bit less range than your standard Assault Rifle.

Speaking of commando.. I'm rethinking my "cloaked commando SG/rail" combo. I'll probably still unlock it, "just because "
But, after more thought.. I'm thinking I may change my scout main to be cloak+cr+proto knives, due to the general fanfest of it here lately.. plus I would like the added range on scout
I've been running calscout+cloak+SG/boltp, cause.. you know -- its an easy iWin button :) Plus it gives good close+medium range coverage.
Knives are fun n all.. but I have to get much much closer for the cloaked kill. Would probably mean I'd need to use kincats to be safer.
Which means I would lose a range module!!
Urrrr... tough decision... guess I'll just have to play around with both and see which feels best. I did run cr+knives on minmatar a long time, before cloak. That just seems ages ago now, though... |

My thoughts exactly on CR. I'm still at Operation(IV) and my Proficiency(V) RR is way jealous. Much prefer the Burst over the Assault, but I'm running it like a Shotgun (probably doing wrong ... lol).

Destiny should be pretty awesome. Still not likely I will be getting a four until they come out with the second generation, sorry sony, you won't trick me this time.
Stun lock info thus far Not very promising. I think stun lock is more than getting hit with a weapon. I can see and have recorded evidence of "physical impact" but I think the slowdown is not as bad. Or very difficult to replicate. Secondly. I think stun lock is more frequent around objects. I wonder if for some reason it magnetizes you. I feel that's usually my case.

I'm at a loss when it comes to Stun Lock and the HMG. I was certain that HMG fire would ensnare on a consistent basis. I was certain that the HMG's high RoF was largely to blame.
First Experiment
I ran two setups ... 1) GK.0, Cmp KinCats (4), Cmp Shields (2) + Knives 2) CK.0, Cmp KinCats (2), Cmp Shields (4) + Knives
Iggy ran a Basic HMG. Dubstep ran a Boundless HMG Iggy and Dubstep positioned themselves roughly 30 meters apart, facing one another.
I sprinted through the point between them, crossing their bullet streams. Never once was I ensnared. D*mnit.
So I rather than running perpendicular through the bullet stream, I ran fly-by and slant patters. Still, not once was I ensnared.
Tested vs Shield. Test vs Armor. Switched suits to the slower Caldari. No dice. No matter what we tried. No Stun Lock.
So lastly, I ran straight at them, jumping as if to land a charged NK attack. They would fire, I would die, but never once was I Stun Locked.
Second Experiment
Magnus joined the experiment as our second "Runner". I ran the same fits as before, but swapped the Knives for a Shotgun. Iggy alternated weapons between HMG, Laser Rifle and Combat Rifle.
No matter what we tried, we couldn't get Stun Lock to kick in, though we did experience a slight Slow Down.
* The Laser Rifle did not induce Slow Down. * The HMG occasionally induced Slow Down. * The Combat Rifle consistently induced Slow Down.
Most Scouts have experienced the "Running in Glue" effect coined Stun Lock; this is the effect we were try to reproduce. The Burst Combat Rifle absolutely and consistently made sprint choppy -- as if the system hesitated while registering the bullet strikes -- but at no point did this weapon or any other reproduce the "Running in Glue" effect.
Hypothesis: Stun Lock is "built in" to the HMG. REJECTED
Observations: * Stun Lock cannot be reproduced on demand. * Combat Rifle consistently breaks one's stride, but doesn't freeze you in place like Stun Lock.
Alternative Hypothesis: * Stun Lock is likely not an intentional mechanic (otherwise it'd be easy to reproduce). * Stun Lock may be related to lag / latency or require lots of activity in a given area. * Stun Lock may be more likely to occur in enclosed areas than out in the open.

^added to that I will do my best to record all the game time I mange to play over the next couple days and see if I can get footage of stunlock from the scouts perspective. Ill do a edited video and post it up this weekend. Excellent write up fat bastard
The problem remains it "feels" like we slow down, but hard to really judge. I think it might be latency right before we die thats partly to blame (many times after I die, I can see my clone running in place as I fall to the ground).
Burst combat might really the key here as it is one of the highest DPS weapons in the game.
You missed the part where I got scared and killed you AH a SCOUT WITH KNIVES.......DIIIIIEE!!!!

Has anyone ever survived a Stun Lock? Is it possible that it can only be experienced when doomed?
The system knows you're dead mathematically, but its needs to slow things down while tallying all your bullet holes.

I wonder if the Stun Lock is a product of lag.
When you have a laggy pvp match in Dark Souls, your position can de-sync between where you see yourself and where your enemy sees you are at. Sometimes if the enemy does a backstab, the game will "teleport" you back to where the enemy sees you at.
Could this be the same thing happening in dust just on a smaller scale and thus less noticeable for what it is? If lag is the culprit, higher RoF weapons would make the effect more noticeable since you are "teleporting" more often thus making you feel slower.
However, that wouldn't explain the Stun Lock that I often experience trying to sprint after some action (shooting, reload, activating cloak, etc.). I wonder if that is related to switching animations. Perhaps causing my character to "sink" into the ground. The resulting collision issues could cause the slow down that I experience there. |

My question is WHY does it cause the runner to slow down. Seems odd. Most games the hit registers even if you are behind a wall, but doesn't pull you back in front of the wall.
We did Q into Oceania, which pretty much was pointless as there was always full games.......who the hell said Dust is dying? All of us should have had some pretty bad pings, but it didn't seem to bad.

@Moody
Saw your bolt pistol review. I don't understand why it would be a good sidearm if you can only win fights if its already "in your favor" thats pretty much every weapon. Engage first and you win. At least with other weapons you can engage second and still come out ahead. Once CCP fixes the range issue I think bolt pistol will have a place, currently its pretty poor.
Why ever use the bolt pistol? Because us scouts like the challenge of using UP stuff.
