FWIW- I was running behind a heavy A-1 with 1200HP.
Shot him 4 times in the back with a K5 specialist and he turned around and blasted me in one second. he had a few hundred armor left.
I have LV5 shotty too.
Guess what weapon I am done with.

Quil will tell you that you should've aimed your shotgun at his head. I will tell you that you should retire your shotgun in favor of a Rifle.
Your Shotgun will outperform your Rifle if your target has under 450 HP and is within 5 meters. In all other circumstances, your Rifle is the superior option. Even in this circumstance, your Rifle will perform sufficiently.
Fun excluded, there is no reason to use a shotgun in Uprising 1.7. |

Guess what weapon I am done with. Generally speaking, the Shotgun will outperform the Rifle if your target has under 450 HP and is within 5 meters. The Rifle is the superior option in all other circumstances (I'm told there are quite a few :p). For whatever reason, since 1.7 a flanked and "stun-locked" target is often unable to retaliate. Ultimately, flanking with a Rifle is just as deadly -- albeit less fun -- as flanking with a Shotgun. And with a Rifle, you don't have to leave the shadows, chase down targets, disclose your position, get within hipfire range, account for back-pedaling, etc etc etc. Far More Reward, Far Less Risk Use a Rifle. I do ... unless I'm screwing around.
Hehe.. well, actually I was thinking F this knives are waaaay better. I would have cut him like a stinky cheese block at a google party and moved on by the time I was done with the first shotgun blast.
Using a rifle in conjunction with knives is a very nice set up.
I just have to say- no graphs, science, or buts about it. The shotgun is so inferior to knives, why bother? If you can get in that range you may as well.

WHOA WHOA WHOA there, Scouts are amazing in PC. get gud scrub Seriously, I can't remember the last time my shotgun-scout died without getting at least 1 kill in. Scouts=city dominance in PC doesn't even matter if they're scanned or not- As 2/5 scouts in A.E. don't run dampeners.
They are really only marginally more effective on a single socket. One socket. You are better off using other roles than scouts for cities, or you have terrible opponents that can't adapt.
Granted this is for minmitar scout. I have no experience in Galscout as I am sure the range bonuses help a lot. But again, it all comes down to the fact you can fit every other suit for a scouts roles with greater HP.
And yes, I do need to get gud cause I am in fact a scrublet....
@ IWS I think the heavy bonuses are fine. They need to be "beefy". I like the dmg resistance bonuses. I want them to be walking tanks and need coordination to take down. Blast dmg reduction also good because they can't "move" away from explosions. BUT......they need their turn speed capped again. They shouldn't be ballerinas.

Yes. If they are going to be walking tanks, they better not be able to turn and strafe as fast as a scout.
If they don't do this to the heavy, I foresee a LOT of AR heavies walking around that will be almost impossible to take down.

Ghost Kaisar wrote:Scout Registry wrote:Shotgun Maths: Adjusting for Overspray
TL;DR: When firing at 5 meters, plan on 1-2 pellets missing your target.
Introduction: Grief PK and I conducted a simple experiment today in hopes of establishing a benchmark overspray value. In essence, we compared how much damage a shotgun could do vs how much it actually did at 5 meters. Any replicable difference between maximum damage and actual damage (at 100% efficiency range) can be explained by missed pellets, or so we propose.
Hypothesis (Accepted): Overspray exists at 5 meters; 100% damage will not be dealt 100% efficiency.
Ancillary Observations: A) The optimal range of a Standard Shotgun (~5 meters) matches that of an Advanced Shotgun (~5 meters). At this range, the Advanced Shotgun deals damage at little to no variability, which cannot be said for the Standard. The CRG dealt a precise total of 441 damage, 5 times in a row. In exactly the same setting, the Dren dealt an average of 425 total damage (ranging from 387 to 457, with a standard deviation of 26.91) over 10 shots.
B) We observed more damage variability when firing at a Scout Frame than when firing at an Assault Frame. More likely than not, the Scout's smaller hitbox means that one pellet will miss him (at 5 meters).
C) Efficiency appears to by -20% versus armor. Efficiency readings drop into the 80s when a target is in Armor.
Data: Shotgun,Range,Efficiency,TargetShield,TargetArmor,RemainingShield,RemainingArmor : Total Damage CRG (42x12),5m,100%,153,446,0,158 : 441 CRG (42x12),5m,100%,153,446,0,158 : 441 CRG (42x12),5m,100%,153,446,0,158 : 441 CRG (42x12),5m,100%,153,446,0,158 : 441 CRG (42x12),5m,100%,153,446,0,158 : 441

Wow. That's a nice set of data you got there. I threw in an extra column for clarity. Haha! I love it! I was just about to calculate the sDev when I noticed you had already done it! So does this mean that the lower tier shotguns have more spread than the higher tier? Also, you tested this with maxed out skills right? How would this work for someone with lower shotgun skills (the skill reduces spread). Also, can I request a follow up with a test of the breach? As we know, the breach has a much tighter spread. How much of a difference does this make? Does this mean that the Breach could be BETTER than a standard shotgun at ranges of 5-10m, instead of 0-5? This data opens up a lot of questions. Good job You kick ass! Given that shotgun does +10% to shield and -10% to armor the shotgun did 459 dmg. 441 was unique to that suits ehp. maths:
153/1.1 + 288/.9 = 459.1
...which is very close to 42x11 = 462

Do this. 6 times a second is equal to 360 a minute. 360 BPM.
Listen to this, and tap along with it.
Repeat until you can do this without the metronone.
You now can tap on the controller almost 6 times a second. That'a around 612 DPS (34 a shot, 3 bullets a burst, six times a second)

Practice. Try mainting the bursts on target at a lower ROF. Gradually bump up the ROF until you can maintain the recoil effortlessly.
Or cheat. Aim at their feet. Recoil will push the barrel up the body. Most shots should land on target.

Maybe my outlook is different because I have 3 other protosuits I can use on Appia, and another one on an alt, but I like the Gallente Scout where it is. It seriously needs to dev hugs, but I can make due with what I have for a long while. I really haven't even played with those other proto suits in a while.

Man, this IS a hard thread to keep up with.... we are pretty chatty for a bunch of shadow-dwelling ruffians....
Let me see here:
Big +1 to Shotty (sorry, I mean "scout registry") for the excellent shotgun experiment. I don't have much experience with the shotgun but I really enjoyed looking at this data! One engineer checking in.
Glad to see Ghost, Quil and Mollerz getting along....
I'm worried if the new changes go through, as heavies (damage resistance), commado's (damage bonus) will be harder to dispose of. Logi's may be easier, except for the LOL Gallente super anti-scout using craptacular ADV scanners scanning at proto precisions. And I bet medium frames up their game w/ more damage mods to cut down the heavies/commando's easier.
Leaving scouts to sacrifice more low slots to remain sort-of unseen.... I hope that there is some scout consideration given for 1.8.
And to Spade, my Irish brother-scout, I am a Cali resident.... Los Angeles, right in Little Tokyo.
As for the bolt-pistol... if it doesn't have the scrambler headshot bonus, I'm just not that interested....

As noted earlier, I was getting along just fine with Quil. You can disagree with someone and still get along just fine. I still don't think I've managed to **** anyone on Dust off yet. Except for KingThunderCunt You have more likes than me so I don't like you either. WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!?!?! *Grabs the Creodon Shotgun from behind the counter and fires two warning shots* First Quill and Mollerz, and now me.
SETTLE DOWN KAISAR. QUIT PICKING FIGHTS WITH EVERYONE.
