Whoa, I was getting stomped tonight all the way from Min/Gal FW to skirmish! Man, and here I was thinking it was Christmas Eve and all and I was in for a few mellow games. Wrong!! It took all of my deviousness just to keep my KDR at 1 and not die too many times.....
Whew. I need to practice more, clearly!
Shotty - I think as scouts we each need to take it upon ourselves to self-regulate; we need to decide if we want to cut ourselves some slack and be cool to each other, or not. Not only here, but in the various 'scout' threads that show up in other places. I have to admit I get tired of posting in the other threads because it's just too much to weed through, but I need to up my game on that.....
You know, we can cut each other to pieces on the field but if we start fighting here than it's pretty much all done. They say there is no honor among thieves, but there should be among brothers. We got so little going for us and we are so used to fighting against stacked odds we should be able to deal w/ some forum stuff without too much trouble.
We can't be trolling our own guys....
As for the whole shotgun thing.... I have about 10 kills using the shotgun so I've been skimming that stuff, but I wish there was less angst flying around there.
Happy Holidays all!!

@ Oswald Good to know. Thanks for looping me in. @ Scout Vets This thread's gone to sh*t. Apologies. How do we fix? Best we vets leave and let he noobs debate theory amongst themselves? Best we vets stick around to slap noobs about when they say stupid things?
I just think the bitter vet syndrome is strong in the scout community due to the lack of dev hugs and poor scaling. 1.7 marked a major downturn in scout spirits, others have also noticed the pessimism of late. If we were to go back into our posting histories, you'd see we responded differently when we criticized others 4 months ago compared to how things are approached now.
My main thing is just not to shoot down people so quick, there are many scouts out there that lack the pearls of wisdom of the experienced scout base, and they will not be better informed until they are "enlightened", which doesn't work when they are "slapped". People are much more receptive to criticism when they think they are actually being listened too, especially when they put some time into the idea (faulty or not), which if you look into the thread which you took that quote from I explained some of the flaws of his ideas, he kindly received them and wanted to talk / share more ideas, despite the fact that I was criticizing his. Essentially scout vets won't be able to communicate their experience if they aren't willing to share them in a decent manor, and in which case how are we to expect others to see differently if they are not communicated with, including the devs, who pay more attention to smaller threads, thus we should be representing the views of the vets in a reasonable manor should it catch a devs eye.
They will continuously be new scouts or returning scouts, and will continuously have revisited ideas or conceptualizations. This phenomena shouldn't generate rage or elitism because there will always be less experienced players with less than perfect visions. While I know I am in the dog house for my defense of decorum, I do think it would go a long way, in the end we are playing a game and no one really wishes us harm to justify any negative feelings.
On another note, I've done this with other online groups and games, and considering its the holidays, if any of you guys are in SoCal after the holidays, I have no qualms with a restaurant or bar meet up, and as long as you guys keep the drinks under $50, I can cover the bill.

The bitter feelings in this thread are due to CCP's negligence in addressing the scout's deficiencies. However, we are turning these feelings against one another to nurse injured pride and because many are forgetting we all want the scout to be a viable and enjoyable role (though we may disagree on how it should be done).
Leaving the scout theory-crafting to new scouts is inefficient as they will spend time considering ideas that vets have considered and concluded would not work. Time will be wasted while they come to the same realizations (that is not to say they won't be able to devise novel and effective ideas).
When a fellow scout proposes an idea that has either already been discovered to be or is obviously a dead end, it is the obligation of the scouts who realize this to inform them that the idea is a dead end. More importantly though, they must explain why it is a dead end (and without involving the scout's performance). The scout who proposed the idea is free to defend their idea because they may in fact shed a new light on the idea that would make it a boon to the scout role if implemented. However, if the scout is unable to provide said new light and is unwilling to heed the advice of their fellow scouts, then there is nothing left to do but ignore the scout's statements on the idea (though statements on other matters should be considered fully without being dismissed because of statements on the scout's idea).
Side note: Wow, that sounds incredibly preachy. I shouldn't be typing at 4AM.

It turns out that both the Gallente and Minmatar scouts interest me equally - speed-shield tanking my Minmatar suits appeals but so does the awareness of the range-amped Gallente scout.
I've really been having fun in the less challenging matches with scouts - instead of being a tryhard with a proto medframe I find myself running a standard scout with kincats and dancing circles around people.
I have to confess that I often still default to old habits when getting stomped by squads. Perhaps I'll do this less as my scoutly skills improve, but for now it's a rather lethal surprise when people bring out their focused scanners.
I have a few questions about the Minmatar scout. I'm really, really enjoying the speed I get from kincats - but with only two low slots, how viable do you think it is to do this? The fits I've seen often feature things such as CPU extenders and regulators - I like the idea of using regulators but I never find it quite as satisfying as that speed I get from kincats. I've also found that with a cardiac regulator I never seem to need to stop running - but that really is a luxury and isn't particularly useful.
Complex shield extenders seem to be an absolute necessity. So I ask you scoutly friends - How do you fit your Minmatar scouts? Do you use kincats? Regulators? What equipment do you use? I'm liking the remote explosives but with a nanohive I can stay on field for longer.
I'm using a combat rifle and knives at the moment. I'm unable to use the Ishukones, but I can use the Boundless Specialist Combat Rifle.

Here is a point to consider:
When hit detection was (mostly) fixed, automatic weapons benefitted immensely and the TTK for automatic weapons dropped substantially.
Fixing hit detection had a somewhat different effect on high Alpha weapons such as the Shot Gun, and Sniper Rifle. While better hit detection can mean the difference between getting the kill and not doing any damage, the Time To Kill is unchanged. If it took two shots to kill them before (provided the hit registered), then it will still take two shots to kill them now.
So the rate of fire for that shotgun was balanced against the TTK of the Assault Rifle before the fix to hit detection. So now Automatic weapons are dropping people faster than Sniper Rifles and Shot Guns.
The TTK issue really needs to be fixed. If they fix the TTK by nerfing automatic weapons across the board, then the Shotgun is fine the way it is. If they fix the TTK by buffing health across the board, then high Alpha weapons will need buffs to keep up.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else, there is the Learning Coalition.

Ark, I can't say much on Min but Gal Scout should in almost all cases play on racial bonus card when it comes to fitting
One ench range amp gives you cca 48 and complex 52m, which opens nice space for you to position for optimal damage and play hide and seek if you go AR/CR and NK. Damage mods on Gal Scout is no brainer, complex if you can. As best rep as you can.
You may drop range amp for kincat if you go with RR route and rely solely on scanner -- unless you take PRO suit, which then can fit good sidearm so you want to CQC more than with say just Toxin SMG. Anyway even 36m of non-amped passive scan is quite good.
Also play with cheap and EHP-light suits as much as you can, so when you go PRO you feel like a beast.
For example 8k ISK suit: https://zkillboard.com/detail/35165994/ |

I just want to point out this to Quil. He took umbrage because I called out his cloaking idea as being less than stellar. He also took this to be a personal insult.
I also apologized and gave him a salute. I did address his idea with a constructive one of my own, but some respectable people called me out on continuing to debate the cloak in the scout forum so I moved it to it's own thread. Whatever. The bottom line is Quil ignored my posts, my apologies, and declares I attacked him on a personal level. hmmm... Everything of which is completely false. So again, whatever.
This thread hasn't gone to ****, we just have a new scout, Quil. I don't care that he's saying this stuff about me at all. I do care that he goes onto other threads and declares he speaks for "most scouts". That is completely disrespectful to the entire scout community. I doubt he'd be able to find any sizeable body of the scouting population that he represented.
Anyways, IMHO, this 285 page thread has been awesome, and still is. Quils will come and go over the coming years. Let's not let them sidetrack us. |

The false claim, fyi, is that I "go onto other threadS, and declares he speaks for most scouts".
ONE time I did that. And it wasnt by me declaring explicitly, "I am now a representative of all scouts" or anything. I made a statement of guesswork about "most scouts", based on my own personal observations about frequency of use of weapon types for scouts. Other people spoke about their own differing views. Based on that, I have already acknowleged that my observation could have been off, as far as the "most" claim.

Yeah, I was solo too, i just took up residence at C and defended it to the best of my scoutly ability. Most of the time i was alone, managed to take a couple of HAVs, but I had no resupply so it got tight on ammo. Actually had one point where all I had left was KN, and two red HAVs rolled in
