Probably a 'bit further. Sharpshooter adds quite a 'bit of reach to the SMG. In my opinion, all high RoF weapons (excluding the HMG) should have Aim Assist dialed back a 'bit. Gun Game doesn't matter at the moment. On a side note, I'm running a pistol today. Only at Operation II, so I haven't unlocked the goodies yet, but ... HOLY COW THIS THING IS AWESOME!
As you can tell its my favorite weapon, I would literally be in scout heaven if they just gave me one scout with 3 sidearm slots *cough* Cal Scout *cough*

No.
My Cal scout deserves to use the shiny new Rail Rifle.
Create a new T3 specialization so all lights can have the awesomeness of 3x sidearms.

I think SMGs are great at close range but are terrible at anything past 25m or so. They also are useless against shields, which considering peoples tendency to armor tank now is probably why you are feeling they are OP.
I really like to use AR/SMG builds because the AR strips their shields and the SMG shreds their armor. Normal engagements it takes ~20-30 bullets from AR clip then another 30-40 from SMG to take someone down. Protobears usually take nearly entire clips of both if they are dual tanking.
Nerfing the SMG would only go to show AR514 lives on.

Awesome video indeed! Great post!
Enjoy the pistols shotty, they really are amazing! Nothing humiliates medium frames worse than being ventilated by a scout suit using a pistol as a sidearm. Oh, the shame!!

Wow so I hate to admit it but thanks to the Black Eagle challenge, I tried AR for the first time since Closed Beta with no sp into AR at all. It was so easy that I was top of the charts by staying at a very far distance an ADS killing reds. It made me really see how OP AR is and how crappy all other weapons really are... even my beloved SG.
I knew it was bad but I had no idea it was that bad. It actually made me furious to see how easy it was. As a scout suit I was taking down mediums and heavies before they even knew where I was because I was so far. They would hide behind obstacles with their back to me and I'd finish them off. Hell... I was mowing down suckers from hip shots.
As a senior software engineer I have to finally say DUST 514 is a horrible piece of software. Their devs should be embarrassed. I wish I never tried the AR because for the first time since closed beta, I have no intention of capping out this week. It will be my first voluntary week missed and I'm not sure if/when I will feel like picking this game up again.
All hail AR 514... CCP you succeeded in convincing me nothing else was worth the investment.
To my scout brethren, I applaud you for continuing the battle. It is clear that CCP does not care, nor do they acknowledge a problem. If you've never tried AR, pick one up just to see what I mean. You don't even have to hide much. I shudder to think people are saying SR is more op than AR. If that's the case, I hope to never try it out. Ignorance truly was bliss in this case. |

It fits better with shotgun fits as well. The TTK with the pistol is very fast giving the enemy less chance to try to kill you. Headshots are insane. Sometimes when I'm running my shotgun I completely forget I actually have the shotgun and just mow people down with my TT-3.
The small clip really forces you to engage and run away in an incredibly short amount of time due to having to reload. With the SMG it takes like half a second to a second longer to kill someone and you have to keep your sights on them longer which gives them much longer to kill you. It's awesome for super tanked logi's and heavies because you can peck at them, take cover, reload, then run in again within a few seconds. :D
In my opinion the scrambler pistol might be the best side arm next to knives. With our low HP that insane alpha can't be beat.

Yeah, it is INSANE in 1v1's. With a 10 round clip, you can tear through 2 med frames and survive if you have good accuracy.
Run it with an Assault sub. It makes for an excellent backup. One is made for 1v1's, the other has the ammo and damage to engage multiple opponents.

I guess I wasn't really clear on that comment:
The problems with AR (and most weapons if we are honest with ourselves) being OP has to do with what I like to call "Ripe Band-aide Syndrome". Multiple band-aides were applied to hide the fact that HD was so horrible before. Hit boxes growing when running/jumping, speed reduced, stamina reduced, damage of all weapons increased, shield regen decreased, AA may as well be called Aim Bot, extra AR buffs (to appease the majority of clients).
Then the REAL problem was solved: Hit detection. And what we are left with is ripe, stinky, sweat-saturated skin underneath a band-aide that should have come off along when HD was fixed. The band-aides have now replaced HD as the reason Dust 514 is a horrible piece of software. |

Um, what? Honestly, in what way are Nova Knives even useful? My Viziam scrambler pistol probably has the same TTK as your NKs, only my optimal range ends at 25 meters. I can still count on 1 hand the number of times I've been killed by Nova Knives outside 1v1 knife fights.
Your proto Scout with proto knives aren't going to be killing my Dragonfly Assault with Toxin AR + Toxin SMG or my Templar suits. And god luck on getting me with those in a suit I'm actually skilled into.

Knives have the highest potential alpha on a Minnie scout. While they lack range they make up in insane damage. Why would I be knifing a scout who isn't using knives themselves anyway? Sorry but I'm not dumb.

Knives are the ultimate alpha damage tool. If you manage to sneak up on someone, they are DEAD before they can react. No stream of bullets to alert them to the fact that they are in danger, just a swift slash and the death screen.
Now that knives work, I'm back in love again. I can get a flank and knife 2-3 people and run away before the team realizes what happened.

My thoughts exactly. Can't believe I've come to this conclusion so late. So much SP in SMGs, but this is basic pistol drops targets at close range faster, with far less sacrifice to mobility.
Not to mention the "panic" factor ... finding that targets behave quite strangely when under Pistol fire from behind. Panicked Target = Happy Scout

I actually feel that i am pretty decent taking these folks out now with my NK and pistols
I have used the scrambler and it is very different from the AR. Learning curve on that thing is different, for example: there is one. Also you need to skill up in the SCR for it to be as effective as the AR. Unskilled AR is deadly, basic skilled SCR balances TTK through overheat.

Very excited to test Pro Scout + Adv Pistol + KR-17 (breach shotgun). Eleven shield-smashing shots per clip, soon. PS: Participated in the Black Eagle challenge. Lost 3. Gained 3. All done.
Forgot about you and those core locus nades
But yeah, TT-3 assault or carthum is amazing to use. I think I might try the Knives/Pistol combo. I just find that while I kill a lot of people, I burn through pistol ammo like CRAZY. On the other hand, it's almost impossible to run out of assault sub ammo. 520 rounds is insane.

Since we are continuing this...
As another Software Engineer, I say Dust is an OK piece of software that is still in need of much improvement but concur with Quil's assessment that the AR problem is a design spec issue not a software issue.

I'm not a big fan of the coloring system used at present. I think suits should be colored by racial standards and not role standards. I want all three of my Gallente suits green! Caldari can be that gunmetal color, Amarr gold, and Minmatar that brown.
