Most Fun I ever had as a Scout in a while as I went Splinter Cell in Space
Scotty pulled one up on me as he thought it would be funny to put me by myself against an entire team, apparently he thought it was funny enough that he did this twice
I ran as a duel scram P scout for both runs, this happened for one ambush and for one skirmish. Fortunately both were in the gallente research facility. It was peaceful but at the same time like the biggest thrill there was with everybody hunting you down as I literally stayed in the middle of their pack the whole time right around the corner. Got off a lot of hacks to lure them in shot them in the back, drop remotes in hallways, loop around corners.
I actually won my ambush match with 6/0, (8 people left right before the end, leaving 8 behind)
The skirmish match went 2/1 and there were only like 10 people in that match, got even more hacks going, there were lav chases and dropships looking for me.
was fun overall

Latest Dev Post: Interview with Wolfman ...
Combat Rifle and Rail Rifle confirmed for 1.7. Looks like the new Scout suits didn't make the cut:
Q: Just to round this off, what can you reveal right now as to what players can expect in the next couple of months?
A: I think people know that we have had a number of content-related things that have been on the boil for a while, so with Uprising 1.7 weGÇÖve got the first wave of that with the rail rifle and the combat rifle. WeGÇÖll be continuing to work on the likes of the light and heavy dropsuit trees and the weapons that relate to those, so there will be more of that coming in the future. |

TL/DR: If you're having a hard time finishing flanked opponents with a Shotgun, I strongly recommend skilling into the AR and running it just like you would your shotgun.
Gave the AR a run for several rounds for the first time this build. Must say, this weapon is a ridiculously good option for CQC Scout. Here's the fit I've been experimenting with (in hopes of recuperating funds lost shotgunning):
Advanced Gallente AR Scout (24k Isk) PW: 'Dren' AR (Std) SW: 'Toxin' SMG (Std) GR: M1 Locus EQ: A-19 Active Scanner HS: Cmp Shields (2) LS: Bsc Plate, Bsc Arm Rep (AR Operation V, Proficiency III, Sharpshooter III)
Motivation: While Shotgunning, I have a hell of a time keeping damage on a target if he survives my first and followup blast. Even at Operation V and Proficiency V running Advanced and Prototype SGs, I am unable to reliably flank and neutralize a tanked opponent without taking retaliatory damage myself (often death). CQC mechanics work to the shotgunner's disadvantage, and I'm fed up with losing fights I should win.
Experimentation: So here's where the AR on a CQC Scout really shines. If I get the drop on a target at close range, I can deal steady and massive damage, often dispatching a target before he has time to respond, just like a shotgun. Unlike a shotgun, I tend to take substantially less damage when my flanked target has time to retaliate. Reason being, Spray and Pray hipfire is enormously effective and requires minimal effort. I need only hold down "Fire" and focus avoiding incoming fire by bouncing about and strafing.
Conclusion: If you haven't tried it yet, I'd recommend putting a few points in AR Operation and running a GEK. Treat it just like you would your Shotgun. Those pesky counters like back-pedaling, super-strafing, bunny-hopping that foil your shotgun attack ... none of those work against the AR. The Scout Mobility advantage plays a much more significant role when swapping blows with an AR Medium. Just remember to bounce about and hip-fire. Aim-Assist takes care of the rest.

I would stay away from the sidearm dmg mods, they won't do much for the knife, at least in my experience you die too quickly. I use sidearm damage mods for the SMG, and I find that the bonus actually helps the knives alot. You can tap shot almost anything outside of super tank heavies and med frames dmg mods are a must. I'm afraid if I don't use a comp precision I will miss some scouts that I could've if I had it on. Sometimes other scouts don't use damps. I want to be prepared, although resources say not to go past L3. I think we all ready for change. for fairness and balance. |

I gave this a shot (ha, ha, ha.... ahhh) on my Minja alt, since at the moment he is skilled into AR's up to L2 prof / sharpshooter and not sidearms. Even running the basic AR and not using aim-assist I can confirm this is quite effective; ridiculously so.
My pistol Gallente has to sweat blood and tears for every nerve-wracking kill, the Minja seems to collect the kills with substantially less effort.

With all of my Anti-Minmatar speak one might forget that as much as I think the Minmatar suits are bad for CQC -or tanking- no other suit is as bad as the Scout G/1-Series. Balanced slot layout is horrible. I'd dismiss the Amarr suits because of that too, but their the best dual tankers and they have the greatest skill bonuses. 10 days till I start working on Amarr Medium Frame Operations :p

If you're strapped for cash, I'm sure someone can start a proto-suit fund for you, elsewise stick with the dragonfly/dren/basic suit too test stuff with.
Oh, and the Assault Scrambler Rifle is better than the AR for that btw

I only use a range mod when I run solo. I have 4 PC fits. One from Opus Arcana/Hellstorm Inc. days, one from TeamPlayers, one from MHPD, and now one for Ancient Exiles.
OA/HS: Complex damage mod, Ishukone Sniper Rifle, Wolfman's PCP-30 Scrambler Pistol/Core Flaylock, K-2 Nanohive, Fused Locus/EXO-AV Grenade, 3 complex armor plates & Complex armor Repair
TP: Basic Shield Extender, Duvolle Specialist Shotgun, Core Flaylock Flux Grenade, Remote Explosives, Complex Kinetic Catalyzer & 2 Enhanced Armor Plates & Enhanced Armor Repairer
MHPD: Complex Precision Enhanced, K5 Specialist Shotgun, 'Toxin' ICD-9 Submachine Gun, lux Grenade, Prototype Drop-Uplink**, Basic Profile Dampener & 3 Complex Code Breakers
AE: Logistics gk.0: 2 Complex Damage Mods & 1 Complex Shield Extender, Thale's TAR-07 Sniper Rifle, M1 Lcus Grenade, 4 Compact Nanohives, 4 Complex Armor Plates & 1 basic armor plate
** 4 editions exist each with a different proto-uplink, The one with reduced CPU/PG I run a Boundless Breach SMG instead of the Toxin.
In TP when they took out shared team vision I tried running a suit with 2 range amps on it. It certainly let me get the drop on people, but I still had to wait until they tried to place uplinks or hack the objective, CRU, or supply depot before I could attack or else they'd turn around and kill me in faster than I could kill them. Much better to just use the innate CRU/Supply Depot/ Objective scanner and pop them from behind with more HP.

* If Scout+AR works on an Advanced Gal, then it'll work even better on a Proto Gal. * If it proves reliable, I can recommend it to newer Scouts who are saving for proto suits. * Unwilling to part with SP on two EZ Mode weapons. Too heavily invested in ARs to switch to ScRs. * If CCP rebalances CQC, I'd expect mid-range ScRs to be nerfed harder than general-use ARs. * Adv Min may be superior is Adv Gal, but I'm unwilling to part with SP on cross-classing. * Adv Gal + Range Extender + AR is a potentially viable flank fit, given Gal's racial bonus. * Easy profit at 25k / suit. Stable stats. Fewer kills, but fewer deaths. KDR holding or improving. * Not interested in handouts :p |

What I can run atm is 1 adv precision. 2 comp range amps, 1 adv repper and 1 basic damp. Yes, infallible precision on installations and objectives is ridiculous. We can work around it and use it to our advantage. Example 1 Shotty had brought up a map design issue in the research facility, where Letter is at the top of the stairs. Scout assaults on this Objective are madness, unless you trick them. There is two sweet routes in where you will not blip. Up the Vent at the back, and the far bridge by the stairs on the side opposite the CRU, though you need to jump off the bridge and over the opposite rail to not blip.
Also height mess people up, they see you but they have no idea what level you are on by the map play with them a bit and eventually they figure out you are not on the level they thinkGǪ and RE are waiting.
Example 2 It's a trap RE the approaches to the Letter and start a hacking, when they come for you stop and boom. This really works well, just watch for our bastardly kin, they can slip buy sometimes Also brush through the field of one precision sink, hightail it to your true objective. The enemy cannot match your speed.
We work with what we have at hand

Followup question:
Seriously, NOTHING more than this? Just a couple levels into AR, just enough to unlock GEK? No damage mods, no (any other things I'm not aware of) ? ? ? No AR sharpshooter, no... ? ? ?
GEK hasnt been so wonderful for me in the past.l I guess thats just because I didnt take the time to sneak up to them point-blank, rather than attempt to kill them from 20m?
If this really works... I can forsee actually following the somewhat cynical post from someone in the past, along the lines of, "Okay, lets ALL switch to AR, forget running any other weapons, and finally maybe CCP will get the message"

Don't like the vent route. After you reach the objective's range, you are stuck in an open area with no cover. |
