Noob killed me, but I don't think I ever saw him. I do believe I have seen that. Saw Moss and Draxus, but not you, J0LLY. Noob was present on my side, Bamm I do not know. Sadly I never saw a single knife, or person to be honest. Got a hack and recieved 15k. I lost 22k for each of my three suits that were killed by a RE trap. Got me a Nothi Knife though.
Can't even use it... .
Now you will realize I have shit for luck and can not get even half decent stuff in salvage.

I'm with the Shaman on this one. #Optimism. However if they're simply milking wallets to increase funding for other projects, only to drop dust later, we'd be rather upset. #Realism Rattati doesn't strike me as the type. Statisticians and Salesmen are cut from a different cloth. Call me naive, but I bet he'd walk before milking us. Alright I'll bite: That's pretty naive.
I like to call myself a realist (all cynics do), and from a realist perspective it's entirely possible for Rattati to be complacent with upper management taking the game in a poor direction. And this is coming from one of his biggest fanboys.
It wouldn't even reflect on his personality much, either. The thing is, different people have different interpretations of what is a good or bad thing to do. He might stay on the development team to do whatever he can for the game to make up for the fact that we might be getting milked. He might stay because he relocated himself and his family to China in order to work and doesn't want to jeopardize their future. He might not have any real power over the future of the game despite being head developer (because as we all know, upper management at CCP is atrocious). In fact, he might not even know what's in store for the game in the long term. He might have a different idea of what "milking" means in the context of Dust and Legion. People working at CCP are obviously going to be more sympathetic to the needs of the company than the average player, after all. There's a whole lot of shades of gray here.
Point is, I think we should temper our expectations. The future of the Dust is really truly up in air right now, and any number of things could happen. Cautious optimism is and always has been my stance, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be prepared for the possibility of this whole house of cards falling down.

Rattati supposedly wrote:Monetization for it is hindsight, and intended for play-on-the-weekend-3-kid-dads like me that can't play every day, but would love to upgrade to get some experimental weapons one day.[/i]
But that's my problem. There's already rewards that lean towards the unemployed or those who can otherwise play every day. And now there's this thing with the warbarge where you have to log in to claim every day. I've said before but if I was still in my previous job I'd only be able to log in a couple of times a week, even though when I do play it might be for 8+ hour sessions. And I'm sure there are many others in the same position. It's one of the reasons I like the Passive SP system so much.

Re: monetization I don't think Rattati's personality or (current) intentions really enter into it. Higher ups will always be able to say "you must add an AUR element to this or that". Whether he is driving it, or higher-ups, or both, doesn't really concern me. I just decide whether or not to spend money, and whether or not the game interests me.
Regardless of where they're going with AUR, I do think there is a real risk of alienating existing players. It's already been talked about on the forums etc. Arkena's post here is not the first to mention it. And whilst you may think -- alienating players -- yeah whatever, it happens all the time here but we've still got some players so it'll be ok - the problem is this is a very different sort of alienation.
Bottom line: don't spend AUR expecting things outside of what it buys you directly. Imagine the plug being pulled tomorrow and whether that would make you feel cheated out of RL money. If so, you probably should stop ;-)
I am neither an optimist nor a pessimist: I just don't think there is any way to know what will happen next.
Re: daily logins.
The subsystems have a capacity which would appear to be twice the generation rate. Which means you only stop widget production (no-claims penalty) after 48 hours. Whether this ratio remains constant I don't know, but I've managed to spend AUR on my barge (yeah sucka) and each subsystem is the same 2x ratio.
You must learn honor, or you deserve to learn nothing at all.

Happy to chime in here.
There is quite a backstory to all of this, but I can't go into the details. Know this though:
I am responsible for a much reduced team from before, and I need to balance feature development with revenues, that's simply my job. I made it my quest, if you will, to add good gameplay, fix long standing issues, work with the community and keep DUST 514 open while our players stick with us. Fixing performance is at the top of our list, now that Warlords is out, and we are even considering moving out any new development back, such as PC 2.0, for the sake of a few frames, which includes a new way of rendering skins, level lighting and the whole chat/voice code.
And honestly, everyone can drop the tinfoil hats, there are no ex-EA execs breathing down my neck, twisting my arm to monetize. I am tasked with making a "normal" profitable ans sustainable game-as-a-service, covering costs and a bit more. Just take a look at PS2 and Smedley's statements on its profitability to see that this is a tough industry. We are very proud of the way we have been gradually improving and we are doing all we can to not make DUST514 P2W.
I am a core fps player at heart and I know that frames are life, not graphics, but those are the hardest technical issues, and hard to demonstrate return on that investment. Improved revenues give us space to tackle that, and more, and they get funneled directly into the game.

In my mind increasing performance before releasing PC2.0 will increase the retention rate of players who will be coming back for PC2.0.
Delaying PC2.0 will also give the community an opportunity to give feedback on newly implemented mechanics and mechanic changes, and so any further tweaks of these mechanics can be done before or in conjunction with PC2.0, in essence solidifying the game experience before the 'reboot' of the competitive mode.
More time before PC2.0 will also mean an opportunity for further balancing passes, which will also be appreciated. Especially so if you manage to squeeze in the vehicle changes and a balancing pass on them.
And as for monetising, I think SirManBoy had an excellent idea when he suggested that the APEX suits be allowed to fit any available BPOs. In addition to making more services available; things like: station change, gender bending, race/bloodline change, EVE character generator to use for portraits, portrait do-over for AUR, AUR BPC skins for PRO suits, AUR BPC weapons with differently coloured effects, AUR monocles for the portraits, ...
(That different way of rendering skins wouldn't include an opportunity to introduce AUR BPC/BPO skins to be used on PRO suits, tanks, and dropships, would it?)
Basically the pitch is this: * appeal to fear * more time is needed before releasing PC2.0 for it to not fail * the recent changes need to solidify * vehicle changes need to go through first * more time to introduce more spending options GÇö AUR services, AUR skins for PRO suits, tanks, etc. * fixes related to retention rates need to come through first

CCP Rattati wrote:Smart stuff.
So what's your position on Dust leaning a little too far towards being overly rewarding to people able to log in every day? Or the juxtaposition of people getting left out?
I'm not sure if you saw my earlier posts but for the entire time I've been playing Dust up until now I've successfully managed to hit the 6kSP daily bonus a grand total of 4 times since it was implemented, with a record stretch of 8 days being the longest. This was because my job demanded frequent travel for a few days at a time. But when I was home I'd have marathon sessions, sitting down and knocking out the weekly SP cap over the weekend every week for months at a time (not any more obviously).
Am I less of a player or customer than the guy who logs in, plays a few games and leaves, even though our total hours played over the week may be the same?
Now I'm no longer in that job and while I know it's not exactly normal, if I was still in that job the requirement to log in every day or couple of days in order to keep my warbarge functioning would frustrate me. I would only getting a fraction out of it compared to others.
I know it's hard to cater to everybody's lifestyle as we're all different, but I was surprised by this as my understanding is you were trying to help out the "casual, have job and kids and can only get a few hours in on the weekend" player.
Any player with a job must be infinitely more valuable as a customer than the unemployed "poop sock" squad.
