Arkena Wyrnspire wrote:I assume it's something you agree with, though, so consider it one of your own opinions and call it a QPLAK? I do kind of agree with you. They do have to monetize their product. But to go so deep into it on an admittedly low manpowered project.. means game core mechanics are no doubt still ****. We see where the priorities with limited resources are.
There's this heard mentality amongst the bigger developers, and they all take cues from each other once something sticks as far as making money. Honestly, I hope it's a fad. The only right way to make money is to make a good product. Making a quality product is monetizing your software.
But just like people who want to lose weight on a quick diet without lifting a finger, most devs go the cheaper monetize with minigames based on a grind with pay gates to speed things up.
In a great game the grind is invisible. In a ****** game you have to bust out your wallet or dig in for hours of playing a shoddy game. |

The only thing I know of AUS is that 85% of the continent is uninhabitable and this uninhabited region is patrolled by "pirates"
Anyway....warbarge looks neat and yet another AUR sink. I can see a slight bit of P2W if its takes a year to build the components to get 6% dmg buff. Do we even know what all the nodes do yet? All I have seen are the dmg buff, more isk and components. Looks like 20 nodes, so there is a lot to "spend money on"
Too bad you cant use isk.....oh thats right, we don't want people to progress too quickly.
Question, did CCP ever "nerf" SP gains after they made the cap 750k? I heard Ratatti saying that wasn't intentional and it would probably change. I think I left with ~30mil SP and seeing some people at the 50mil mark has me scratching my head. I played solid for 2 years hitting cap and using boosters for most of it, only to see people double that amount in several months. It devalues my initial investment and makes me a sad panda.

I want to know why the game is being so heavily monetised and none of the money is apparently funding the furthered development of the actual game.
We have one new map in a flagship expansion that was meant to be worth going to 1.0 again.
When that happened in Chromosome, we got bucketloads of new things. When that happened in Uprising, we got loads and loads and loads of new things. It was broken, but there was plenty of new content. When Warlords came, we got one new map.

So... initial reviews are generally nothing great? Is it really worth the 1.0?
Also I'm not impressed with this daily log in stuff. In my last job that just wasn't physically possible for me to do for more than 4 or 5 days in a row as I travelled so much, yet I'd still cap out for the week and put in the play hours of other people. While I'm not in that situation now I don't like seeing people get left out of game mechanics.
Also: I just wanna say I called it on Dust edging too close to everything needing Aurum.
We'll bang, OK?

I think the product is getting better.
Over the past two years, we've seen weapon/role balance improve from nonexistent to almost there, and what entitlements remain are likely not long for the game. In my book, these adjustments alone constitute significant improvement. Combined with additions like new maps/moods, Mu, Jara, vendor buy back, respecs, daily missions, loyalty ranks, and now the warbarge framework ... we cannot say that progress is not being made.
That said, I'm as frustrated as anyone else with those things which detract from recent gains. Pubstomps, for example, overshadow and suffocate any attempt we make at growing the playerbase. Insta-spinning, insta-gibbing HMG Heavies are nothing short of obscene. The fact that I have 1,451 strongboxes is almost as irritating as the ever-present orange dot there to remind me.
But I remain optimistic.
Rattati and Team are doing good work. Progress has been made, and there is no doubt much more to come. I believe it likely that we'll soon see different kinds of gameplay improvements, from movement to framerate to (fingers crossed) the death of pubstomps and the rise of new types of competitive matches.

I would argue that perhaps only two of these constitute actual progress and not AUR grabs.

Well it is certainly not as major of an update as the name might suggest.
The warbarge feels a bit underwhelming (like, seriously, is it too much to ask for 4 different racial pictures of a warbarge instead of one generic one?) and grindy. It also feels more like a monetization thing than actually benefitial to the gameplay.
The new map looks kinda cool and has a lot of vertical layers which makes it kinda unique among the maps but it is also totally unpolished. Lots of walls and stuff not aligning properly, some terrain is hard to move over (yet again) and I even fell right through one of the walkways once. It is also (almost?) entirely made out of 'old' assets, just rearranged differently and with a MCC model on top of it.
I'd actually be more willing to pay them more money if they'd fix some long standing issues rather than them trying to squeeze more money out of people with strongboxes and warbarge components.
Jebus still hates scans.

So, while I'm at work, my wife is installing the update for me. Very nice of her since she is aware that she will probably be falling asleep alone tonight. For some reason, I'm scared. It's like i can smell the burning PS3 from 20 miles away.
I love her very much, but sometimes i wonder if boobs emit some sort of electromagnetic field that screws with her ability to work with technology.

I wouldn't think it advisable to convert to a "pay" model at this stage. As for monetization efforts, I see this as an ends/means argument. If the game plays better a few months from now thanks to revenue generated today, who really cares? If CCP Rouge is waiting to pull the plug if the bills go unpaid, I say let Rattati hug P2W as closely as he sees fit. Better for all of us that he succeed than fail, hurt feelings or otherwise. I believe that Dust has enormous potential, and I hope to see that potential realized.

So the current Warbarge UI is a model of ship floating through space. Why not with each Warbarge Level Upgrade, change the look of that ship a little 'bit. Visually showcase the new subsystem. Add an appropriate sound effect. Bells and whistles.
The ability to customize the look and sound of your "personal warbarge" is coming in 1.1.
