Posted this in a thread on sniper tagging earlier and thought the idea would be of interest to us and especially our sniper scout flag bearers - Keeriam, I'm looking at you ;)
Django Quik wrote:I like the idea in general but think it should be opened up a little - all players should get some sort of tagging ability, whether sniper, scout, AV, whatever. You can tag one or two players at a time but that tag only remains as long as you maintain line of sight on the target, so it would not be as OP as active scanning.
Perhaps certain things like snipers and scouts give a buff to the number of tags you can have active and/or the length of time the tag lasts after losing LOS? Then sniper scouts would suddenly become really useful - oh yes I think the registry lads will like this!

Do you remember how the game was before they took away shared team vision? This is what you would be doing if you gave non-snipers the ability to tag people.
Also keep it on the down-low but scout's passive scans are shared with your squad. well, not entirely accurate, all passive scans are shared within a squad but usually you don't notice when it comes from someone not using a scout suit.

I run 1 complex precision enhancer, Kaalakiota Rail Rifle, and 3 complex range amps for my squad when we don't have active scanners. There are still the problems like you can't passive scan through hills for some stupid reason so it really doesn't work well outside a city unless you have the high ground :/

1.8 build. I guarentee you Gal/Cal scouts will become viable squad mates for a slayer squad.
Once you hit 100m passive scans that scan at ADV level or higher, every slayer will want you in their squad.
It's just like having the old wall hack back (except justified, as the scout class will actually SCOUT the enemy team.)
Now if only we got intel points for it......

I don't seem to have any problems with hills but I mostly run adv suit and 2x complex precision. 1 complex It seems more like there are just more people running dampeners and what I think is scan not working with hills/walls is them popping in and out on radar from line of sight

You really notice it on Manus Peak. despite them being within your scan range and not running profile dampeners they don't show up... unless every heavy out there is running multiple complex profile dampeners...

So seriously, my passive scan contributes to squad vision When did you notice this?

since they took shared team vision away. I could always get a glimpse of the guy attacking a squadmate from outside my scan range. The red would disappear and then my squadmate would pop up on the kill board with a kill. Some friends said they noticed people when I was in their squad running extenders. testing happened. testing confirmed.

I'm not saying your wrong. Just saying what I think it is from the difference I notice from using 1 precision vs 2. When running 2 it also seems to me some targets are brighter than others but that could just be because of flashbacks from things I did in my younger years.

I'm not keen on giving out Warpoints for passive abilities. Especially when "spotting" is something that a dozen people could be doing at once. How do we decide which squadmate gets the +5 for having the dead-dot on their radar? |

If each non-scout/sniper only got one tag at a time and had to maintain LOS and you had to do the old press R3, wheel select tag, press R1 for every time you wanted to tag someone, it would be next to useless and most likely dangerous for anyone not out in the open with a large field of vision. It would not be anything at all like the olden times "see everyone all the time" shared scan vision mechanics.
On the last part, I have previously seen a seemingly random flash of a long off red dot in some matches and wondered why but I was pretty sure none of my squad mates was in the area it appeared. I've never had anyone tell me they've seen someone that I've been passive scanning though; even when they've been standing with me and I'm stalking someone I've had to direct them.

Ok, so that solves that. But for the active scanner you spec into it, buy and equip it to your loadout, and activate it in battle. This would literally be warpoints for standing near a fight. Active participants would be getting +15 all the time, in addition to the +25 wounding bonus we already get. It would increase WPs appreciably across the board for something that requires zero effort.
Serious business squads would equip range amplifiers and run in packs to increase orbital throughput, since the value of one kill could be more than doubled: 50 (kill) + 5 * 15 (spotting) = 125 WP. |

If you're standing near enough a fight to be passive scanning it, you deserve the reward. If you've only accomplished that by dedicating 3 - 4 slots to range extenders and maybe even precision enhancers, so you're pretty much a sitting duck if you try to do anything, you deserve the points even more.
Oh and with active scans you don't get the intel assist if you get the 25wp kill assist - it would be the same for passive intel kill assists.

We got a fair bit of snow aswell, but it left in a day. The real threat are those wheeliebins. I remember someone was found uncouncious in one after getting whacked by it during the night last year.
