May retry Inquisition down the road, but it isn't worth my $60 today. Your first mistake was buying it full price.
That game has been on sale so often since its release I began to wonder if it was ever sold at full price.
The beginning of the story was very linear, and in some ways you are confined by your low levels and what enemies you are able to engage, but it doesn't take long to get past that.
Also remember that at about 1 hr in, you have roughly experienced about 1% of the game, as I spent about 150 hours playing it.

Spade found it on Amazon for 40 something. Might to do that. I didn't hate the game, but it failed to set the hook early like Origins did. Also, I didn't see anything exciting in the DA:I's rogue skill tree. Boo! If you played XCOM, you should checkout The Bureau ... it's pretty good, and it gets good fast.

A few years back at the behest of a friend I tried to play Final Fantasy 13. After TWENTY HOURS of playing, the game was still running me through the same endless hallway. Couple that with the truly braindead writing and intolerable characters and it's a wonder I managed to even make it that far. That game was one of the final nails in the coffin of my dislike of JRPGs.

In fairness FF13 is a terrible game and your friend is an assh*le. In double fairness, my friend has since admitted that he has know idea what he was thinking when he recommended it and we still bash it from time to time.
If you have some tolerance for very long videos and the occasional corny skit, this video series on FFXIII is hilarious. The dude tears it limb from limb, it's great. Although the videos start off a little slow. If you harbor as much hatred and resentment in your soul for Final Fantasy 13 as I do, it's definitely worth the watch.

bah. you just played one from the wrong company.
FF7 or 8 was interesting, and somewhat different.
if you want really different.. and you like ooold school... and own a PS1/PS2/Emulator.. try legend of dragoon.
Epic. made in 1999.
Unique combat system. Actually has you DO stuff in the turn-based combat. (as in, you need to time buttonpresses, to maximize damage)

Unique combat system. Actually has you DO stuff in the turn-based combat. (as in, you need to time buttonpresses, to maximize damage) I tried FF7. I don't dislike the game on principle or anything, I actually was decently into the story and the characters and I loved the music, but after a while I found that the gameplay just gets in the way of that. That's the problem I have with turnbased JRPGs, I just find the format so thoroughly unengaging, and when you're just forcing yourself through the gameplay to get on with the story then you just end up with a more tedious and frustrating movie or visual novel. I have nothing against the genre, and I've tried numerous games from it, it's just something I don't like. I feel the same way about puzzle games. I'll look into Legend of Dragoon though
Tangentially related, but Pokemon completely escapes this JRPG Curse of mine. I adore Pokemon games and devour them every time I get my hands on them. I've talked to my friend about it and he agrees that Pokemon is somehow different from the traditional JRPG but neither of us can figure out exactly why. Any ideas

Adipem Nothi wrote:o/ Cross Fair enough. Spitballing here, but I wonder ... would dramatically increasing EOM Isk payouts do more good than harm to gameplay? Assuming Isk weren't at issue, I'm still thinking about "keep what you kill" for down the road. There's time spent between matches these days, and it'd be pretty cool to have something to do while searching for battle. Enter the Warbage:Forge! Breakdown unwanted salvage into weapon components or vehicles parts. If you're still searching for battle when you're done at the Forge, swing by the Warbage:Foundry to use weapon components to research (and later manufacture) weapon attachments, or perhaps swing by the garage to assemble new vehicles from the reclaimed parts of old. "Busy work" yes, but it'd be fun busy work, and it'd be a neat way to increase Warbarge interaction. I actually really like "keep what you kill" but it does - in my estimation -need those quotes around it. Keeping what you kill as one metric for supplemental isk, and recover what you lose as another. The major pitfalls I'd like to avoid, or positives I'd like to promote, regard the gaps between risk vs reward per role at any given meta level and potential earnings per role in the same context.
Granted that ideal is one of those nebulous states, to me the ideal is what no role has a better risk vs reward (aka baseline earnings potential).
As to having some form of crafting in the game, especially crafting actions that you can reasonably do while dealing with a long queue time, I'm all for that

I have it on my new fit. Swapped shields for two blues so i can jump on the tank and then toss my AV grenades. Can you actually ride on tanks now? Hadn't attempted to climb one since the Myofib changes. Last I tried, I got tossed almost immediately.
I have in the past for a bit at least, not sure if it's changed. Honestly my idea was to jump on the tank and grenade it before PLC when I fall off but so far I've been too eager and always attacked when I was right beside it. Next time I'll try to hop on first.

It's totally different from the XCOM: Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within. It wraps elements from those games into a shooter with squad tactics. Battle sequences are bridged by clever plot. I'm an hour or two in ... very much impressed so far.

That's one thing I think I dislike about the somewhat recent map changes. They moved the spawns closer to the objectives so the scout sprint suits aren't really called for as much in pubs. I'm sure many like the changes but I miss fighting other sprint scouts over the points.

Min scout hacking speed is good, though I kind of feel the Gal scout's bonuses to precision and dampening would help it kill enemy speed deploy scouts leaving it free to hack points more safely.
