Dampening Level 3 is the highest I'd recommend. There is no realized benefit (at the moment) for Level 4 and 5.
At Scout Level 5, you'll generally not need to run a dampener (as most folks run advanced scanners). If enemy is running proto (meta 8) scanner -- happens around 10% of the time in my experience -- swap to a loadout with a single dampener. If enemy is running meta 9 scanner, there's not much you can do realistically (sure, you can run a proto suit with 4 dampeners, but you'll be too squishy to do anything but hide).
Dumping SP into Dampening Level 4 and 5 has zero affect on the above scenarios, so isn't worth the SP investment in my humble opinion. |

Caveat: I prefer to fight up-close (SG/SMG/Nade) and generally run a Scanner. 1) Favorite Lows: Armor Plates (2), Armor Reps (1), Card Reg (1), Kin Cat (1), Dampener (1) 2) Complex is preferred. Faster rep means faster back into battle. 3) Shields are preferred to damage amps, unless I've swapped to AR or Swarms. 4) Never used 'em. Don't plan to either. 5) Not a bad approach; often yields the best results (more kills, fewer deaths). 6) I've run two (never four), but prefer the Active Scanner even though it alerts my prey.
I like to mix it up, keeps it interesting. I run all weapons a Scout can carry except for LR, NK, Flaylock. I think Scanners are a crutch, if you get used to playing with them, you'd be handicapped when you ever play without them. Nothing beats good old fashioned field awareness......and teammates who DO carry scanners (<3 you Shotty).
1) Lows: Plate/s (1/2), Complex Rep (1/2), Kin Cats (1/2), Card Reg (only for my initial spawn Sprint Scout) 2) Use whatever you can fit, with the remaining resources. I have loadouts with no Reps, but rely on a Nanohive for reps (compact etc.) 3) Shields! For extra punch, commit to getting a weapon to Proficiency 5 4) Waste of slot IMO -- just use a scanner. 5) You have the lows to do it, why not? 6) Refer to 4.

That's as I thought shotty but thanks for the reply. I had other skills to do first anyways which is basically a 2 month roadmap so it wasn't going to happen. Does the Dren Scout suit have the Gallente Scout bonus out of curiosity? For the first month of Uprising the BPOs did not benefit from the role bonuses. As of 1.1 All BPOs get their respective role bonuses. |

Scan, sneek and destroy, Kodho Unfortunately, I spec'ed into Minmatar because I wanted to go knives and speed. Now both are severely hampered. Wish I had gone Gallente. Kodho
I really prefer sniping with the Gallente Suit. The Minmatar could possibly do an extra 14.4% more damage than I can, but I can survive a body-shot from a Thale's.
If you're interested in a sniper's road map, and you have a proto-suit, get Sniper Rifle Proficiency III then work on Weapons Upgrades V. Then go for Profile Dampening III. Then work on Armor Plates and Armor Repairer. Make sure to get your core skills up there as well.
Your go-to sniper fittings should be Scout mk.0, 3 complex damage modules, Ishukone Sniper Rifle (Charge is good for Ambush or Domination) any sidearm that isn't nova knives, K2 Nanohive, a complex armor plate and complex armor repair.
~370hp total.
If you know people are gunning for you, swap out some of the damage mods for shield extenders.
You can also put a basic profile dampener and a cardiac regulator in your low slots if you want to have fun sniping from the enemy's red-line |

Scan, sneek and destroy, Kodho Core skills. Proto don't mean crap unless you can fit it right. Core Skills improve all of your fits, and allow you to run Cheap ADV suits that are actually quite effective. I'm at 11mil SP w/o Proto. And I can still run one hell of an ADV suit.
Yeah, I'm having difficulty imagining what I'd actually use proto suits for, beyond what I'd use ADV suits for. Maybe (same things I use ADV fit for) + armor? Given how flimsy scouts are, though, I'm thinking it will mean I'll just die .5 seconds later :-}
Maybe with pushing out my range to 100m, I'll never be surprised other than by a sniper, so that might help?
Methinks this kind of fit would reduce me to mostly being a mobile sniper my self. Otherwise, I'll be getting into things too closely, to get out safely if things go bad.
iunno, havent tried it, and wont be able to fit into a proto for a looong time...

The ambiguity comes around, for things like the dragonfly "scout" suit. which is generic scout. scout suit skills are usually labelled to be specifically applicable to "(race) scout". So dragonfly may or may not get bonuses. After all, WHICH should apply? min or gal?
In contrast, the Dren scout, explicitly identifies itself as "G-1". So, clearly gallente, so should get gallente scout bonus.
Side note: It's an odd thing that there are aurum versions of gallent scout, all the way up to proto... but no minmatar ones. (at least, as far as the wiki knowledge goes)

Ooooo... thanks for pointing this out. the original poster doesnt care since he has scout 5, but for underachievers like me who "only" have scout 3 and dampening 3... oh cool, I still dont need ANY modules to avoid ADV scans. Thanks for getting me to do the math. I can now refit all my ones that have a single dampener on them :)
But I still occasionally get scanned. For that, I need 1 ADV damp + 1 basic. (or even, 2x basic). Until I get my scout suit skill to 4, which should allow me to get away with just one ADV damp. Or scout 3, damp5. But seeing as how damping is waaay less useful than scoutsuit skill, I guess I'll give that a pass.
PS to Llast: too much ambiguity in the 'they' for that last post. I think he meant:

You, are not a very intelligent person. The description of the Dragonfly Scout says it is a Gallente suit.
You are also not a good scout. You should probably go Assault so maybe you can complete a match with a KDR of 1.0 or above.

ADV. Cpu enhancer. Seems to be only way I can stay alive. I have to manage my stamina a lot and can only choose: speed, tank, or stealth. I switch between 3 fittings depending on what types of scanners are being run, and what types of weapons are being used. |

Here is my take on the Officer NK dmg at 250 ,charge time 0.5 sec. I only run gk.0 with a laser rifle so I can use range to stay alive. Two complex ferroscales for a bit of survivability and two complex reppers for when I do get hit. Damage mod in the high. IMO 2x complex reppers are required when armor tanking, otherwise it takes too long to recover after taking damage.
One of my shotgun fits (adv. only or it'd get too expensive) packs two complex scan range increasers which actually makes the passive scanner useful. I really feel two are necessary though, and even then it only works on a CQC fit. Guess 4 would change that, but you'd have to avoid reds at all costs -- which I suppose you could with the range you get ;). |

I'm sorry, I didnt realize that logic suddenly became invalid if posted by someone with a low KDR. I also didnt realize that a high KDR gave someone great writing skills. Oh wait, it doesn't. Your original post was horribly written.
Cass Caul wrote: you are no longer scanned after re-spawning. they stay lit up after they die :(
(Is the first 'they', the same as the second 'they' ?? And why the transition from 'you' to 'they', if the subject is the same, in either or both cases?)
My post may have been incorrect (which isnt surprising, since I was only attempting to guess what your oddly written post meant, rather than state facts), but at least the meaning of what I wrote, was clear and unambiguous. Yet you have the nerve to call me "not very inteligent"?
wow.
FYI, I dont care that much about KDR. I care more about winning for the team. (and taking risks by experimenting with new gear, trying to learn new strategies) |
