My philosophy on reading is. You read to learn how to do things. If a story is good they will make a move of it and then my imagination does not have to do all the work picturing what is going on. Oh and naked women in person > naked women on screen > naked women in words
But I am going to try to read some of A Song of Ice and Fire because I know I will be able to see the naked women later in the coming episodes, lol
Going to make a list of the suggestions you all made/make here since it is now considered reading to learn how to do something.
If you can't kill them scan them.

The personal reviews of Randian stuff I've been subjected to have ranged from "This is amazing you'd love it" to "Ayn Rand is a complete hack" with seemingly no middle ground, and it just doesn't seem worth the effort. I do love Bioshock though.

Dune - One of my all time favorite movies A Clockwork Orange - Another great movie
I think I will put reading Dune at top of my list because even though I really liked the long version of the movie I am sure the book will be a lot better.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I do love Bioshock though. Crazy you mention Bioshock! The opening sequence outright screamed "Who is John Galt?" ... played the intro twice so my wife could see it ... loved it :-) Anywho, Ayn Rand's capacity for character development is among the best I've seen. She weaves a story like few others can and touches on ethical dilemmas as pertinent today as in the time of her writing. In my opinion, she's definitely worth reading. Agree with her thinking or not, you'll be glad you did. Atlas Shrugged is better than The Fountainhead, but once you've read one you'll probably want to read the other.

I'll tuck it somewhere into the back of my mind, but I will read it eventually! Probably.
It's weird to think that that isn't the biggest novel-related undertaking I've ever committed myself to. I still have to read the goliath that is Infinite Jest. There's a book that's a long as it is dense. I'll probably finish it when I'm nearing my deathbed.

Muthafuken DUNE!
Read it.
Frank Herbert is up there with Tolkien and Lovecraft.
Speaking of which. I have this book: http://www.amazon.com/Necronomicon-Weird-Lovecraft-Commemorative-Edition/dp/0575081570 Read it. Or get one of the other collections. It's really great stuff. Lovecraft inspired so much we see today and is referenced in Xenomorph Aliens though to Batman.
Reading it you'll go: Oh.... so that's who Steven King was ripping off.
Ok, ripping off is a bit harsh but he's straight up lifted so many concepts it's not funny.

I'm genuinely going to cry when that man dies. Discworld and Monty Python have pretty much defined my sense of humour for the last 25 years.
