Best AI management I've seen: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gambits
For those who didn't play it:
Behaved like a nested if / then. Once unlocked, could initially stack ~5 conditions; the stack grew substantially with upgrades/investment to 20 or so. The "conditionals" could be found/purchased throughout the game; some were pretty specific, and it was fun to program followers to play off of one another. Example:
Follower 1 - If enemy:difficulty = tough, cast oil Follower 2 - If enemy:status = oil, cast fire
And so on ...
Combat could be paused/planeed, but flowed real-time rather than the usual FF turn-base. XII didn't get glowing reviews, but I found it to be very well designed and executed. Impressive amount of content and quality of content for a PS2 game.

For those who didn't play FF XII ... These "gambits" behaved like nested if / then statements. Once unlocked, you could initially stack 5 or so conditions on each follower; the stack grew substantially with upgrades/investment to 20 or so. The "conditionals" could be found/purchased throughout the game; some were pretty specific, and it was fun to program followers to play off of one another. Combat could be paused and planned but flowed real-time (rather than the usual FF turn-base). FF XII didn't get glowing reviews, but I found it to be very well designed and executed. Definitely my favorite of all the final fantasy releases on PS2 or PS3. Impressive amount of content and quality of content for a PS2 game.
It also had a pretty wonderful cast of characters. It might have been better without the executive meddling that shifted basch from the main character to a supporting role, but even then as 'obnoxious' as he was I like how Vaan served as a fairly neutral role protagonist that kind of voiced what the players might be thinking. It's worth noting that vaan was actually in very very early ff12 designs and had something to do with the water element and his role in the narrative of the highly political story of ff12 was as a healer both in terms of actual gameplay, and in how he interacted with other characters. He really kind of challenges other characters to better themselves in fairly soft manners.
Balthier and Fran were an entirely enjoyable duo. Penelo was pretty adorable herself too.
I should really work on completing some of my backlog. There's a horrible number of psp & ps2 games there.

Vaan never really bothered me; thought it was clever writing how he was more-or-less just along for the ride. That game had a great story to tell. I was blown away by how much there was to do and explore ... no idea how they crammed so much into one disc.

IMHO have an awesome comparison to Min scout and Minmatar in general.
Daredevil. Blind, smart, resourceful, struggles with the past, can constantly stomp your face no matter how many hits he takes.
Minmatar- Eyepatch and poor EWAR, resourceful, clever, smart, struggles with hate for the Amarr cause past experience, can also stomp your face no matter how many hits we take.
As long as both play towards advantages they can win And keep being awesome.
What do you think?
BTW, King, FF-Type-O and MGS:PW are the reason i keep my PSP. And nostalgia.

I mean what I wrote - because that's how it works and a lunge is a lunge.
Vyuru wrote:Ok, so another random thought.
Is there any benefit (or would there) to having skills affect multiple dropsuits?
Just using this as an easy example:
Drop Uplinks:
Does whatever it does now and adds
Amarr Dropsuits: +1 spawn per level
Might be an easy way to add some more complexity to the game without reworking the skill tree too much. Also allows for some interesting sidegrades/buffs to suits/weapons.
Now whether the game needs it or not is another question. This is just something that popped into my head while at work.
Some ships in EVE work like this - you need cross-race skills to use them, and they grant bonuses based on those skills. They also have their own role bonuses.
Would certainly add flavour. |

I want to comment on nova knife damage modifier, but I can't find the quote to back it up, so I will refrain so as to not mislead anyone, but it was tested thoroughly, I rumember rusearching it when I first got started about 9 months ago.
As I rucall, it was a little more than 200% fully charged, per hit. The damage displayed on the knives themselves is also per hit, so uncharged is at least double that number + a % based on the tiny bit of charge you get just from pressing and letting go of the button, so it's always a bit more.
Peruhaps a venture into the SDE can answer the question?

The site can't be too dated as they also have Nothi Knives (Logibro's NK tweaking was the latest round of adjustment, and this tweaking pre-dated the sidearm officer event).

charging a nova knife is a continual action. hold the button down, and you are charging it. you can charge it for 1 second, 10 second, or 100 seconds.
In comparison, a lunge, is a one time action. a sudden forward dash. So what you said about getting a lunge while charging a knife, doesnt make sense. A one-time thing could happen when you first start charging it... but that doesnt happen.
So the only thing left that is relevant, to make it even vaguely true, would be if you get a lunge forward when you release the charge, ie, "swinging a knife". |

If I had to guess, I'd say charge multiplier is somewhere between 2 and 2..5
Always thought it was two, seen ppl do maths based on that. But just saw Pag1um doing maths based on 2.5 - Dreis even quoted him and asked him where he got 2.5 from but Pag never replied.
I'm tempted to say 2 more than 2.5 based on what I can OHK, but I really don't know for sure. All I could find was headshot info: Headshot damage: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2271818#post2271818
And in my 30 minutes of searching (because even I have done maths based on a 200% modifier but I cannot find my post) I have found out the forums search function doesn't seem to be a keyword-based search. Bloody annoying and mostly useless. |

So much wow. Can you not see how holding R1 for 0.6s to achieve full charge then letting go equates to a lunge? We will need to agree to differ on this one Quil. |
