Oh snap! So Warlords looks interesting. Disappointed I didn't see P2P market place or any kind of PvE to fall back on when the MU system inevitably fails.
I am a little confused on how this is gonna work in terms of combining efforts with corp buddies for warbarge stuff. Where's our pirate warbarge?
Also, yay Mustard! I've had little interaction with him and last time we squadded I was just having a terrible day and he probably thinks I'm a low grade blueberry (a reasonable call). But short of Shotty I can't think of anyone better suited.
I may deep around for a bit and see how rusty I am today, looking into getting one of the apex suits (gal assault, Min scout maybe) if anybody wants to drag my dumb ass through some FW.
We'll bang, OK?

In its current form sniping players is already rough as nobody stand still, and us snipers are confined to using only one of the two movement sticks, while being incompletely immobile and in danger of counter attacks.
I believe increasing any speeds at this time would require aim assist added to every weapon to compensate for hard to track strafe dance we currently have.
When I look down my scope, all I see are dead people.

We each have our own mini warbarge that will be combined with all the other warbarges in the corp to make a large one.
That could be wishful thinking on my part, but I enjoy the idea.
I was also rusty the last time I played. I would suggest not going on tilt like I do. I get angry, then get dumber, then angrier, and the cycle continues.

I came into this game during open beta about 2 years ago as a sniper.
Speeds were MUCH higher then than they are now. Granted, the sniping game was in a much better place, and rendering was much less an issue, but I never found speed to be an issue. I always led my target, and let them run into my recticle.
Sniping isn't easy, and isn't supposed to be. I think my biggest problem with it at this point is that the zoom on the scope is not enough, and now you are trying to snipe a small target with a small recticle, and the rendering issue.
Speed I think should not really be taken into consideration.

I'd personally love to see movement/strafe acceleration tuned to the extent that "wiggling" is done away with.

Agreeing with sam, even though I just started using the sniper weeks ago. Hitting a moving target is already pretty hard lol. No one that has been playing this game enough to be in an advance suit stops completely. I tend to sit there and snipe saying. "Come on you are tired, i know you are. Just take a lil break". If they are moving backwards while pivoting in order to strafe then it definitely would be effected.

It's definitely going to hurt Armor Tankers, that's for certain. Lot of armor tankers rely on the faster forward/backward motion because their strafe speed is so slow.
I'm still against reducing backward speed, need some hardcore convincing that isn't "So Nova Knifers autowin".

Here's what I'd recommend:
Scout C/1 HS: Cmp Precision, Enh Shield Ext, Cmp Shield Ext LS: Cmp Damp, Cmp KinCat PW: CRG-3 SW: Std Bolt GR: M1 Locus EQ: Std Cloak, Std Remote
Bad idea to run two weapons with a 5m range. Unless you're Jolly. Alos, no point pairing a Militia Dmg Mod with a Shotgun.

Knives have so little AA you might as well say its non existant.
With EWAR changes, not only can Assaults beat scout passive scans, but there is nothing that any scout can do to evade short range scans within NK range.
Name another shooter that has forward and backwards motion at the same speed?
If a knifing scout gets the drop on you, and you can't take them out before they kill you, you deserve to go down.
Assaults aren't in the weak spot they once were. They shouldn't have the advantage over scouts in every situation.

I'm still against reducing backward speed, need some hardcore convincing that isn't "So Nova Knifers autowin". Im with you on this one. I have to start off with flux or ar and switch to smg to finish off sentinels fast. I thought that was the tactic of the game of shield and armor. But I guess if you have NK you do not have to use tactics of changing weapons. You only need the single weapon. They use the excuse after 1st hit the target jumps and backpedals and they can not catch up quick enough. I call that BS because they can switch to another weapon the same as anyone else that REALLY wants to get the kill would. If they have NK's in both weapon slots or no other weapon then I guess they are not very smart in the first place.
If they make backpedal slower then I think they should nerf the alpha dmg of NK's and shotguns to go with it.

If I thought it'd make knifing easy or OP, I'd oppose it without second thought. Just like with Sprint Charge, which the vast majority of us have opposed since 1.8. This. If knives became OP I would probably stop using them. I want them to be the same little hard mode niche weapons that they've always been. I also want them to be fair and fun to use. Therefore: Death to 100% backpedal speed!

The alpha damage of shotguns and NKs are what make scouts viable in an FPS where they have significantly less HP than their counterpart.
I run 200 to 300 HP max, and you want me to go toe to toe with an Assault that has twice the HP or more?
That isn't the role. The role is to ambush, and to be able to better wield high alpha weapons better than the other suits. If we miss, if we are spotted, if we try and go head to head, we should be dead.
If they wear 1 Precision Enhancer, I can't beat their passive scans in short range unless I use 2 Complex Damps and a Proto Cloak, and trying to do that with the delay right within short range is just insane.
How anyone can defend backpedal speed as it currently is boggles my mind.

We just got rid of the FoTM chasers (... excluding that Raven guy :P ). Seriously, the last thing anyone here wants is a reverse-exodus. I don't think anyone wants a free pass. In all fairness I would prefer slower backpedal speeds just because it makes sense that backpedal speed be the slowest. It is the reason that so many scouts are asking for it as if they are logi crippled with only 1 weapon slot. I see plenty of scouts everyday with NK and shotguns that after missing attempt at their range on me pulls out a ranged weapon and kills me. Those scouts had no problem with my backpedal speed because they used 2nd weapon to make up for it. Just as I make up for not having alpha dmg by using flux and 2 different HP type weapons. To me a scout asking for slower backpedal without offering to give up some of the alpha dmg would be like me asking for all players to only have 1 HP type so I do not have to use 2 HP dmg weapons but still able to carry both HP types weapons.
slower backpedal speed will bring out even more wanting scout nerfed to sidearm only or shotgun/nk nerfs and I would not blame them for asking for either

Let's assume, hypothetically, that a backpedal speed reduction were implemented and made knifing and/or shotgunning too easy. A quick fix for the problem would be to tune falloff such that inner rings allow for an extended "early warning" period. Better yet, reverse the nerf to Range Extenders such that players can opt to equip a module which helps them react to unseen CQC threats more readily.
Balance is process. It's about give and take. If fixing backpedal speed were to fudge up something else, you can bet we'd propose and support appropriate corrective actions.

If fixing backpedal speed were to fudge up something else, you can bet we'd propose and support appropriate corrective actions. what good is early warning when you are already in the kill zone and can not escape it. As opposed to when I am caught in the open and have no cover to get out of the way of someone with any kind of rifle or even an HMG from 50m out?
This game is meant to have people with strengths and advantages. If a 200 HP scout can't be reasonably expected to be able to kill any other suits given any circumstances, why even have them in game?
I get no warning if a sniper has a bead on me, or anyone else carrying anything else for that matter. Does that mean I shouldn't have to die because its unfair?
I honestly don't get the point of this or how you think this is remotely OP. Its not like we are saying they can't fire their weapon while moving backwards or that they should only move half as fast backwards...
I even use this against shotgun scouts, and will probably die more often than the extra kills I get with the changes.
The bottom line is that in any number of circumstances backwards speed equaling forwards speed is a broken mechanic that is exploitable, whether it is against NKers, or Assault vs HMG when the heavy is able to catch the Assault unaware.
Thunderbolt. verb and noun.
"James thunderbolted in his pants."
"I lit a bag of thunderbolt on fire on CCP's doorway"

I know it is logical for backpedal speed to be slower. I agree with that. If that is the reason then say that. Don't use the reason of the scout needs a way to quickly catch up to kill with NK/shotgun BS. An already faster scout is unable to switch to a longer range weapons until they get into closer range vs a backpedaling target. (so many are able to do this to me). So that reason is just garbage to me. To me that is a scout that just thinks they should not have to carry 2 weapons so they can have more cpu/pg for complex kincats, shield extenders, and RE's
If you can't kill them scan them.

Scout speed was faster before yes, but player wiggle was less frequent. Not to mention there used to be a ton of slow tanked logis, not these wannabe scout sped up ones of the present. Snipers used to be effective counters for the heavies and logis alike. Now CCP wants to possible speed up all players to make movement easier for the whole game. Kinkat strafing heavies are already somewhat of a pain, wait till they get this strafe buff while the shooting mechanics of sniping are still prehistoric beta. up to and through 1.4 getting 16 kills per game was not an issue. 1.5 brought bad rendering and hit detection. A little later and the whole player base decided to turn this game into Dance Dance Revolution. In the end, it doesn't matter to me where this game heads, but every patch that puts snipers further behind reduces my appeal to play this game. If CCP could at least remove the sway from the left stick while crouched I could see playing this game full time again and look for a competive corp to join, even with a speed increase. Every other fraking class gets two thumb sticks to aim with.
When I look down my scope, all I see are dead people.
