I like the shotgun. It's my style of play. extreme close or extreme long range are just what I do. The extra HP instead of a dampener helps when stray bullets fly past your moving WP farm Sentinel buddy, but it makes the cloak less useful. If not running a dampener then I'd toss the cloak for a Ishukone Gauged Nanohive. And remember to watch your back.
The weapon of choice doesn't really matter. **** the Combat Rifle is still a better CQC weapon than the shotgun anyway.

Keep that plate, its more effective to rep a larger armour pool than a smaller one. Also more wp for the rep :p

So... I have a lot of alts. I try not to, but that initial ISK amount isn't enough for skill books so I send them ISK from Appia. They run cheap gear so make ISK whenever I play on them. I decided to consolidate my ISK last night as a few alts are no longer necessary as I have all the light weapons to at least ops 3. Finally reached a billion isk!

There is always a cloak for that . In both cases, it's unlikely that anyone but a scout will see you on TacNet anyway, and only a Cal/Gal rocking 2 range amps will see you at the same time. So as soon as a red appears on radar, pull out the cloak. Again, with both scouts being undampened, you have to worry about proto scanners at range anyway.
I do see your point. I just wish there were more high slot options for the Cal Scout to shine. Gal scout can go brick, hacker, biotics, or stealth all to much better effect. Cal scout could have stack damage mods, but those just got nerfed.

Well I finally made the leap. Had gal scout forever but always wanted Mini. Took it to 5 last night after lots of internal debate. Still have 200 proto suits from the event to boot. Fun to have a nk hacker suit ;)
Gal will still be for everything else haha

Only cloak and no dampeners and my Gallente can Scan you. that's a bad move for the purpose of the suit.

Personally I like the Cal for point defense. Given the lack of low slots, when playing the close in point game I only need 1 range amp and I can put a dampener in the other slot. Given that the sweet spot for my playstyle is from 35-10 feet, just out of shotgun range, and close enough so that my movement equates to larger displacements in the enemies field of view, Cal really works for me here.
Couple that with some RE sweetness, a good pistol and SMG and it's pretty hard to get an objective unless you bring multiple reds.
Even when people see me, it' usually not that bad as I can still get them....
I can do this with the gallente as well, but a lot of scouts sneak past even with 2PE's.... and then I need to devote some lows to biotics so I can get to where they are when they uncloak or so I can get to the objective in time to kill them before they get the hack (when I noticed they are hacking it or another installation).

Im going to make a sort of multi-reply post here. I read lots of good stuff about reasonable overlaps, etc. What remains, is to define things like "legitimate" and "reasonable".
Lets talk about 'legitimate playstyle'. Be more specific as to what that means.
Form my perspective, it's legitimate for a scout to go running around killing everyone. No argument there. Thing is, really good scouts were doing that BEFORE cloaks and massive HP buffs (via extra slots) were given to us. Therefore, taking away the same-for-all-suits bonuses shields and armor, does not "wipe out" that playstyle. It just makes it more challenging. As it should be, for a supposed light suit.
To restate my personal position: It seems somewhat reasonable to me, that a proto scout should be able to reach the levels of HP, as a basic assault suit. It does not seem reasonable, that a proto scout should be able to reach the same HP levels as an ADV assault suit.
(and really, the main culprit is armor. Heavy armor does not belong on a 'light' suit. It's a literal contradiction)

PS: another potential way to address the issue, other than make shields & armor scale by dropsuit, would be to ditch the idiotic "high power/low power" slots, and instead have "HP slots/ util slots".
Then scouts get 1/2/3 HP slots, but lots of util slots.
Unfortunately, while I see that as a way BETTER solution.... I see the "make HP mods scale differently for each suit" as a far more likely CCP change, since it's the least amount of work.

I actually really like the idea of Health and Utility slots.
Commando's and Heavies get lots of Health slots, and low Utility.
Assaults get A balanced mix
Logi's and Scouts get low health slots, High Utility slots

I can't see them changing slot types at all. High / Low slots are EVE terminology. Scrapping slot teminology and starting over is with a whole new system is a serious design change. Even if it functions similarly, you have to retrain the players. Scaling HP with suit type is a much easier solution with a very appropriate outcome.
Plus, what if I don't WANT any HP mods? Right now, I can stack all my highs and lows with EWAR and be happy. If I had 3 HP slots and 3 Utility slots, does that means I can only use 3 EWAR mods total? What if I want to run EWAR and Biotics without HP?
All scouts (and really all suits) would whitewash together into much more similar builds. HP has high and low slot presence already, in a good mix. EWAR and Biotics do not. They favor low slots 2 to 1, meaning a good build in either of those categories requires low concentration.
There should be 1 new EWAR and 1 new Biotic mod in High slots, to even out the dropsuit building mechanics. And more choices will mean people stop stacking HP so much anyway in order to be more effective at other things.

Not only that, but it seems that any number of fits are valid as well, and that the game is getting to a place where we are always going to have disagreements on what is best simply because we all have different styles of play and skill levels. There was even a sighting of

I think so too. Stacking EWAR is nice after this build. Even HP Regen mods are decent, as opposed to just straight HP pool.
I'd like to see a variety of better Biotic drugs. Does anyone use melee at all? I go entire play sessions without throwing a punch once. And if you have the forethought to put a mod on for combat at 0 meters, why not just use a knife? Myofibril = dumb. Maybe a drug that keeps you from bleeding out? Or affects your jump height? Or your grenade throwing distance?
Myofibril Stimulant might be cooler if your melee could push enemies. Like you toss them off a building, or cause them to turn slightly.

Well if you're looking for suggestions having Uplinks and Nanohives can really help you rack up points, as well as get your team out of a sticky situation.
Medic is also an option with a Needle and repper. RE's are always fun.

Man... I can't give up das REs!!! I had a game last night where I was defending some objective and I swear the enemy team was composed of a bunch of lemmings. Standing at the top of the stairs by the supply depot I just lobbed em down and they kept running through the doorway to that building and blowing themselves up!
Got 8 RE kills and a few pistol kills in 2 minutes as they were trying to take that objective. Eventually 1/2 their team stormed me and drove me back but by that time the other scouts in my squad showed up put the hurt on them.
That being said, I may give this Injector / Rep tool a shot.
Just want to clarify though: you can't blow people up with either of those, right?

Not unless you glitch out hilariously.
I find the pair works well with a laser rifle, friendly catches dead, you trot over, pew pew the enemy, either you kill them or they run (effectively suppressing them) often long enough for you to pick up and repair the downed ally. Other friendlies also often finish off the enemy that ran, the gun is a great pointing tool.
