Blew my mind. While watching, it occurred to me how fundamentally different cloak and stealthplay are in Dust. What design decisions lead up to Moody's impressive killstreak and (in hindsight) were those design decisions "good" decisions? How is it possible that Moody went so long undetected, picking off one red after another? Was it a fluke? Were they all inattentive noobs? Does PS2 gameplay design too strongly favor stealthplay over other playstyles? If so, how is it that everyone isn't running around cloaked? So many questions. In my experience with PS2, stealth gameplay was not really effective. It was not unlike Dust in heavily favoring HP and outnumbering an opponent. I should point out I have not played it since release. Have you watched any of Moody's recent videos? * Cloak * Get into position * Line up a headshot * Fire from cloak * Rinse / Repeat He makes it look too easy. Well, he kinda always has but at least in Dust you could tell when he was sweatin'.

It entirely possible the release is very different.
What I did do once was hide in bushes as enemies ran past and spotted them. I also sat on a hillside in another instance well outside of the fighting and spotted as well as sniping and harrassing ultra heavies.

I know I'm a little late, but I've played enough to give my first impressions on the changes and I don't know how I feel about them. With regards to strafing it seems my prediction of high HP > low HP exacerbating seems to have come true. I wrecked every calassault I came across but I wasn't playing with hitscan weapons for very long so the sample size isn't especially good. I didn't notice any differences with knifing except minassault thankfully being easier to pin down.
The stamina changes, though, seem like a biiiiig nerf to minjas. It's just so much slower now that a lot of the time I found myself needing stamina and not getting enough back in time to make my escape. It also hurts my playstyle directly since I like myofibrils and jumps take a percentage of your stamina instead of a flat value.
Also the event kind of sucks but I think we all knew that was going to be the case

If it were up to me I would propose an increase to base speed and a slight revert on the stamina regen nerf. I feel like the minja isn't fast enough by default to justify its weaknesses. Actually that's really the only thing I can think of that would make sense in terms of a buff, except maybe making it easier to beat all scans.
Speaking of which, I was wondering: Is there anything really getting in the way of reducing the requirement to 2 complex dampeners for ALL scout suits? It would devalue the Galscout's bonus a lot but since it's such a good suit anyway I don't see it mattering much. It just seems so stupid that on a suit that's supposed to be easier to stealth with we're forced to give up half of our suit's slots just to take advantage of that.

EWAR at least as long as ive used it sucks on MN because we have no bonus to EWAR, so we had the next best thing, mobility with high stamina regen to make up for bad EWAR. Just give us the mobility back and let the Amarr keep the stamina boost as well.
And how about f*ckin directional EWAR?! What about that, at least if we can't see much what we can see we will be able to see which damn direction there facing.
This issue really frustrates me as you can tell cause i don't think we would have half these issues if
1) QQers weren't constantly catered too 2) They had a test server to test things out too smooth things out before launching it
Seriously now i understand why people just say get good or adapt or die.

I don't know what to think about buffing the Minja.
I would rather just get rid of the cloak bonus for scouts and give all scouts dampening.
I don't want to give up any of the bonuses Minmatar have to get another bonus, nor do I want us to get an additional bonus that would make it unfair for the other races.
Like Rattati said, we are a fundamentally weakly designed suit. I feel like if there is a problem with the suit, it can be minimized by making dampening a scout thing, and by fixing the cloak.

Reduce Cloak fitting cost (Without low profile it does not offer as much benefit so why not?) Change Scout bonus to Profile Damp so that all scouts can be stealthy. This will benefit Min and Amarr scouts the most, who seem to be the lowest performing. Where would this put the Cal and Gal scouts for their bonuses? What would be reasonable for Damps number wise for these suits so that the bonuses do not become useless? If the Precision Amps go up, how will the Amarr scout look? Functional scans would be great, and balanced by limited by range. With less Damps required Amarr scout would be able to fit Range Enhancers, or more tankGǪ more options. Would this push the Amarr scout into Best Scout territory?

Functional scans would be great, and balanced by limited by range. With less Damps required Amarr scout would be able to fit Range Enhancers, or more tankGǪ more options. Would this push the Amarr scout into Best Scout territory? We came up with an idea awhile ago that addressed scout balance given the change of dampening to the role instead of just one race. I think it was well thought out, and there was compromise and a fair agreement I think considering those in the conversation were initially coming at it from different places.
Cal and Gal could get cloak bonuses, like duration, extra dampening, or a reduction to the cloak range penalty (4% per level would reduce their scan range to just 65% rather than the 85% reduction) to compensate for the loss of the dampening bonus. If that isn't good, we can always come up with other options.
I don't think that Range Enhancers, given their state, would be a problem on the Amarr, and with speed and strafe as it is, I don't think the HP tanking would be terribly effective. Frankly, I still think they should just get a biotic bonus instead of the precision bonus, unless we can make inner rings a fixed range instead of a relative range.
I think this speaks to the nature of the problem, that the Minmatar Scouts' weaknesses are as much to do with the environment that they are in, having seen so many changes elsewhere that have really highlighted the weakness, as it is to do with the suits design. As a result, simply trying to address the scout by itself does little to fix some of the other fundamental issues, and will be incredibly difficult to do without adding more problems, or creating a fix that ends up being ineffectual .

Guys - surely it's easier for all involved to do this as you go? Not sure if you're all in the same room or anything like that, but isn't it as simple as defining the agenda, the order of play, listing those out then marking the time each item is discussed?
Also, if you post what Adi did, can you rename the first item to "About A Sir Man Boy"?
PS. BTW I don't mean to sound ungrateful - what you guys do is bloody cool |

That being said is there some serious irony at work in PS2 in that I hate every faction equally when the game play is arguably much better....
Terrans for being Red. NC for representing Freedom. Vanu for not using real bullets. The game does not interest me in the slightest. I have said this a lot but, it looks absolutely bland. Nothing extraordinary about gameplay or graphics. There seems to be no meta, the multiplayer looks clustered. There. Is. Absolutely. No. Lore. The last thing is what kills it for me, it is basically space CoD. There is no lore. No story. No icing on the cake. I could be fine with all the other stuff if it just had lore. Even though the races don't interest me..but seriously, the reason I have stuck with DUST for so long is because it has such great lore in it's core. Only a few games has hooked me like this. Planetside 2 is definitely not one of them.
It's the lore in the core that bedazzles the Vahzzle.

What I did do once was hide in bushes as enemies ran past and spotted them. I also sat on a hillside in another instance well outside of the fighting and spotted as well as sniping and harrassing ultra heavies.
Pretty sure your spotting is audible to enemy.
I too shoot a lot of blues due to recognition failure. I often die too because I take too long to figure out whose side they're on. I kinda like the voiceover when you're about to lose or win. I guess if those are my thoughts then the gameplay sucks lol. |

I played quite a bit last night and have some thoughts to share on the Hotfix:
- Strafe changes: Some people can't even feel it, some people feel the world has ended. This should hint to something. Personally I can't feel any difference in my own movement. I'm VERY happy with people being less jittery.
- Stamina changes: Minmatar Scout will be just fine in this environment. Jumping is not % based, I am almost certain if you stack green jar you will have moar jumps to use. This hotfix is a buff to green jar utility, and I consider that a big boon to the game !!
- I am overall satisfied with the patch. I kinda want to see backpeddle take another 5% speed hit and go from 85% to 80%.
- I don't think scouts need any adjustments to improve them other than: FIXING THE GLITCH THAT CANCELS EQUIPMENT CHANGE WHEN SPRINTING. It's the quality of life change that is most sorely needed.
Know what cannot be known.

Arkena Wyrnspire wrote:RE: The FW team deploy thread.
Is this Kane paranoia?
I like tinfoil hat conspiracies as much as the next basement dwelling neckbeard with a superiority complex, but this is stretching it a little. What does Kane have to gain here? Glorious dominion over all FW ever? Sure, you may disagree with him but I'm tolerably certain there's no reason to be 'highly suspicious'. Yeesh. What is this, 2014?
No, I barely know him, though I didn't like him as a CPM (but that's really no statement as I barely like any CPM ever). Not sure what all this "tinfoil" phrasing is, haven't been arsed to look it up yet, but my suspicion is nothing to do with motive and everything to do with the amount of energy involved in presentation of what in my opinion doesn't even constitute an argument.
Next, combine that with what I see as a (possibly complete) lack of addressing points raised by others, and what I deem to be propaganda ("thanks dude for keeping this on the front page, the whole community needs to see it").
Finally, the attempts at browbeating others into submission, devolving into pointless snide remarks and attempting to twist things simply leads me to believe there is an unspoken agenda.
Agenda for what, I don't give a monkey's, it's not relevant to my perceptions of the thread.
I also do not trust Bright Cloud, but that's more to do with him appearing to have evolved a neanderthal brain making him unable to say anything that isn't belittling solo players or making personal attacks. So again, spending the energy to push the argument in that way makes me think there's an agenda at play outside of "team deploy is needed".
Quote: I recognise that as a solo player you may not particularly like this. But an environment in which teams can casually play would be immensely valuable. No, PC is not a viable gamemode for casual teams - it still won't be after the rework.
Actually as a solo player I am gagging to be involved in organised squad play. Absolutely gagging! I have realised recently that FW is where I can find that. I would love to be able to spin up DUST and say to myself, "ok, today do I fancy a relative stroll in pubs doin my own thang, getting stomped a little, having some fun a little, trying out this new lolfit, or trying to get some good scores and help my team." "OR, do I want to jump into some serious squad play with tactics, comms, and get some good interplay and camaraderie with my fellow mercs going, as well as become a better player, and gain experience and confidence for PC one day".
Keywords there are "jump into" - and I recognise that's what team deploy may well give. But is 8 man squads not a step in the right direction? Maybe it isn't - I've not taken on board everything you've said yet but I thought you might be alluding to it making no difference. However, that is an argument I have not heard presented in that thread. Also, unfortunately, the sentiment in that thread has made me worry that I won't be good enough, or will get kicked out for a vet who's actually good. There is a very arrogant and selfish vibe coming through there. [/quote]
Quote: Therefore, any system in which you can have a full team against randoms is a failed system. This is why it is incredibly important to implement a team deploy system properly.
Makes a lot of sense.
I also think those guys may be trying to make FW what they want PC to be (or corp battles before they disappeared). I am fundamentally against FW filling in for a broken end-game. I am all for a PC revamp that is corp-centric and a great end-game. But that is not here yet - don't bastardise FW in lieu of it. TD or not.
Will read the rest of what you say later. |

High fives, finished up the assists part. Tossed on a laser and just ran around pinging people and letting blues kill em. Even ran into some red dots solo, pinged them, made them chase me into blueberries lol.
