I could be wrong, but I believe that Rattati has said on occasions other than above [paraphrased] that the Forums often point him toward problems, which can then be verified (or dismissed) via usage data. He's also said [paraphrased] that players often have a good feel for what is and is not appropriate/balanced. We (active players) see what is happening in the field as it happens. When something seems to be off, we use the Forums to let the Devs know. Performance data is a great way to verify early field reports and/or spot historical patterns, but performance data doesn't tell us everything.

What percentage of your arguments devolve into name-calling, generalizations and personal attacks?
Do you think that history of fit throwing and personal attacks is something we should look for in a CPM?

Actually Arkena is pretty spot on. This isn't my first visit to the Barbershop but to sum it up. If someone took tumb1r and made it into a Dust 514 thread. This would be that thread.
Sure, there's some really good stuff on tumb1r and I have a blog on their myself but tumb1r....has a certain way about it.
As long as 5/6 (83%) of infantry AV weapons are Anti Armor based you're never going to achieve vehicle balance CCP

For the past couple years, FoTM has equaled High HP + High Mobility. If all else is held constant and the MN Assault were removed from play, the GA Assault would quickly take its place. It is the next best unit at optimizing these two survivability factors.

The problem with The Barbershop is that it's full of individualists, yet it's perceived as some sort of cult.
The denizens of this place have very little in common aside from having strong opinions.
I remember when Aeon came in here and tried out the scout in order to better arm his debate. 5 or 6 people were positive towards him with 1 or 2 telling him off without a second thought. The next day, according to him, this place deserves to be torn down.
I'm new to the barbershop, myself. I am no one. People here are nice to me, though. I wouldn't call them xenophobes.

I'll go ahead and expand on the xenophobic point since I now know Kirk agrees with me and you're being all touchy about 'no substance'.
This place is very hostile to outsiders. When someone who isn't a regular comes in and says something that the clannish group here doesn't agree with, there are immediate complaints about 'tourists'. Derogatory labels are applied to other classes and weapons - it's not enough to just call rifles, 'rifles', they have to be called 'Fine Rifles'. This is one of the few places on the forums where I genuinely see people trying grudgematches, where people drag up months old posts and attack others over it - particularly when said 'others' are filthy gaijin daring to speak in the sacred land. I joke about 'The Dossier', but the inspiration for recording posts (albeit, I hope, in a much more civil manner) came from the bickering here.
I have, in the past, received mails from actual scouts here (I'll post a screenshot tomorrow, but will blank the name) complaining that they disagreed with the group voice and asking me to speak up in their defence because they were being bashed on. Regardless of how pathetic you might feel that is, that speaks volumes about how potentially vicious the environment is.
Having made those points, I'm going to go on a little rant.
I usually have a pretty thick skin when it comes to the forums, and hey, by the admissions of people here I normally get on well with folks. However, I do find the extreme clannishness to be grating and after a while I just get sick of it. I also find it pretty irritating when people here accuse others of being biased towards X class, because frankly it's hypocrisy. It was here that I saw the only people campaigning for a shotgun buff in the early days of 1.8, it was here that I saw people demanding that the only counter to their class be their own class and it is here that I have seen endless bitching about whatever killed whichever scout. There is even more complaining about 'X killed me and it's OP' than in GD, at times.

No, I am not saying everyone does all of this all the time. If you start bashing on me because you don't do a particular point mentioned in this post, I'm going to ignore you. Similarly so if you accuse me of sweeping generalisations - all of these things have happened in here at some point, and again, because I am tolerably certain someone is going to complain anyway, not everyone does this. However, there is certainly a sufficient quantity of this stuff to make the environment hostile and it's generally why I consider this thread unsuitable for serious game discussion.
"Something something Assault/Gallente/NotAProperScout something something bias etc"
"I am a paragon of reason and virtue look at X argument and Y argument etc etc"
I'm happy to have a nice long forum debate going more in depth into why I basically believe this thread is cancerous, but that'll have to wait until the weekend because stunningly I sometimes have better things to do with my time than justify myself to outraged neckbeards.
Now, I imagine people will get vaguely upset with me so I'm going to go to bed. Toodles.

The issue is not even so much that this thread (at over 34k posts, not surprisingly) has seen all sorts of exhanges of not so friendly nature, it's the fact that such a clannish, off-topic thread is a place were serious balance and design decisions not only get discussed, but even decided on, with little to no regard for outside input or awareness... and then people who don't frequent The Locker Room are expected to know about not only certain upcoming changes, but specifically the arguments and rationale behind them somehow? It gets old, ok?
