J0LLY R0G3R wrote:Core Flaylock is benefiting soooo much from this jumpiness. For me at least XD That reminds me: As a result of Shotty kindly helping me work through my ewar allergies, I've finished prototyping an affordable flea jumping minnie scout fit. This time I really do think it's competitive in pubs, and some of the scores I've pulled with it have been downright impressive. It lends itself to an entirely different playstyle I'm used to, but as it turns out that playstyle happens to be really really fun. So:
HIP HOP Scout M/1 Series 2x Complex, 1x Enhanced Myofibrils 2x STD Flaylock 1x STD Flux Nade 1x STD Cloak 1x STD RE 1x Complex, 1x Enhanced profile dampener
(Note: I discovered recently that I don't have the CPU skill up to 5 so some minor concessions had to be made that probably wouldn't if I had the skill maxed)
Unfortunately there's no room for any HP or red jars, but I've found that they're mostly unnecessary. The lack of the extra oomph that 3 complex myofibs gives is a little sad but the ridiculous PG usage of myofibrils means that some concessions have to be made to make the rest of the fitting work. After some getting used to I've found the jump height to be perfect 95% of the time.
Basically the win condition for this suit is reaching the high ground with the myofibrils and engaging in some sneaky guerrilla warfare, bombing unsuspecting reds and hopping away when you're discovered. Obviously the minja's ability to take objectives and move around efficiently are still there, but instead of putting all your eggs into the assassin basket this fit deals with crowds and unaware enemies exceptionally well. Most people still aren't used to the verticality of myofibrils so I've managed to remain perched for ludicrous amounts of time with this fit, raining indiscriminate doom on the poor peons below.
The only real downside is that you're very squishy, meaning you must make the most of your mobility and react quickly to threats as they appear. Carpet bombing works shockingly well with the 8 flaylock shots on hand but it's not something that can be entirely relied on, and I imagine people will get better at skeet shooting flying mercs as time goes on.
But feel free to ignore all the theorycrafting nonsense, because this fit is fun as all hell, and that's all that really matters.

The stomper's goal is to maximize kills at minimum risk. If the least resistance is to be found in lowest tiers, they'll stomp the lower tiers. Meta locks won't fix stomping. I take exception to this statement; The average stomper's goal is to maximize rewards at minimum risk. If low metalevel game modes didn't pay well in SP and ISK, as has been proposed by Rattati, most of the stompers will go elsewhere. Not all, obviously, but most, and I think that's the best we could really ask for.
I was understanding that it would just be reduced ISK...

oh please. two deaths, and they completely lose out on "rewards". so how does that make sense?
the obvious way to maximise rewards, is to play all BPOs. then it's 100% gain, 0% loss, every game.
that reminds me though: next time i'm getting stomped, i need to just go all M8 grenades. |

It's not a financial concern. It's a KDR concern. They don't give a toss if they lose 5 or 6 suits as long as their kill score is positive. The higher the KDR the better.
TL;DR It ain't about the ISK.

I've already started skeet shooting. Besides, jumpers can't change direction in mid air. Sprint and knife while they are airborne = Dead birds

Let me rephrase then, they want to use the most expensive gear possible while minimizing losses. Obviously almost nobody plays Dust for MAX PROPHITS 25/7 but they don't queuesync in big blocs so that they can just throw suits away. In my experience with FPS games, the portion of players who actually care about their overall K/D is much lower than people think it is. Then again the nature of Dust might attract more players who enjoy that sort of thing.
Where was I going with this again? shrugs
Anyways, a fairly simple (albeit hamfisted) solution to this problem would just be to prevent stats recording in metalocked gamemodes, if push really comes to shove

Stab where they are going, not where they are type of thing? I would imagine that the minja wouldn't be able to get to the landing zone until after the jumper had either landed or killed him, but I haven't knifed much at all since Echo landed so YMMV

That is what I am curious about. In order to successfully knife highly mobile enemies you have to know where they will be at certain points to have any edge. I sucked at killing scouts, but would waste logis/heavies. When I was playing assaults were kind of rare so can't recall anything significant about them. But then again I specifically hunted down those two classes.

Yeah, I haven't knifed at all recently because myofibrils are just so much fun. For me the bonus melee damage kind of fills the gap of the NKs so I'm not entirely going cold turkey. The main difference is melee has next to no range so the hit detection is wonky, and melee doesn't have quite as much DPS.

I know I do That's my "thing" when it comes to FPS games, I tryhard with niche/suboptimal setups. In MW2 it was the M21 EBR and Javelin, in Black Ops it was the Skorpion and Olympia, in BC2 it was just running around with a pistol like a lunatic, and in Dust it's the NKs, flaylocks, and the minnie scout. I think I like Dust the most because it allows you to settle into your niche really well, and be effective because of it. I think the best thing for Dust (and Legion) is expanding the number of those niches exponentially. I want pirate dropsuits, pilot dropsuits, scavenger dropsuits, more weapons, more modules, more vehicles, more possibility for emergent gameplay and theorycrafting. It's one of Dust's strong suits, imo.
