**** man.. you may as well go the ghost K route and go PC. PS4 has been pretty disappointing, and they truly used the shittiest possible internals. Really quite a shame. Between SC and PS4 lacklusterness I have to go PC. And I never did think I'd say that. Yup. I waited a whole year for it to take off. Never happened. I'll be happy with my PC. So far the only problem is trying to get the internet to it. Talking to some dudes at various computer stores, I was told that Cat5 cables lose 15% signal strength every 40 ft. Is this true, or was Mr. Best Buy trying to make me buy a wireless adapter (Even though they only sell the crappy thumbdrive ones)?
Get cat 6 and you will tame that down a bit. If you can, get a custom cable made (properly or you lose the cat certification) to length. For your uses you won't even be phased by a 30% loss.. but definitely keep the cable clear of sources of interference such as near wifi/RF signals, power sources, etc as much as possible.
IMHO, I would say go wireless with AC router/wifi card. Less hassle long term, and probably not too much more $ than a 100ft cat 5/6 cable.

That would be awesome. I've already started doing your 0-damp -> 1-damp -> 2-damp (or 1-damp GalScout) approach when scanned because it makes perfect sense. You've considered what the other side are doing...just like they are probably considering their margins of error when scanning blues.
I've also toyed with (can't remember who talked about this, may have been you too) going from lower dB to higher dB as well, based on the same consideration of what the other team are doing - they may well bring out the higher precision scans first to force ppl to dampen or change roles, but then once they think they've achieved that, they go back to a lower precision...meaning you can break out the earlier suits again.
Just as you have to play their game, they also have to play yours.

Hey it's cool, you run what you want, if it's fun then why not. Hell it's the only reason I have any SP in MinScout full stop - because knives are awesome and I have fun with it. If I had a KDR competition, I would likely use Gal or Cal scout for that.
However, I think that's my point - you've no practical reason to run that on the min scout have you? Wouldn't that fit work better on either Gal or Cal scout?

Speed and damps are far more useful than a ferro or reactive ever will be. If you really want armor, run a different scout. Different people find success in different fits, and though you may prefer Damps and Kincats, others may prefer Armour. Whilst I do enjoy running 2 Kincats occasionally, running Ferroscales or Reactives is certainly viable - if not a more effective alternative. This is due to the high fitting costs of the Kincats. On my fit with two Kincats, I have to skimp on REs and other mods. PARKOUR and I will use whatever fits we find effective. People have told me how to fit my suits before, and they were wrong. You can fit whatever you want on any suit. That is the beauty of Dust. However, you start to hit a point of diminishing returns. In order to really enjoy the benefits of a reactive or ferro on a min scout, you need to run MORE than just one. If you really wanted to, you could easily run a 1x Damp, 1x Ferro, 1x Kincat Min Scout. It's damped, has a little bit more armor , combined with a good shield tank on top. However, at this point, you must ask yourself "Can another suit do this better?". The answer is YES. The Gal Scout can do it better. The Gal scout will be a BIT slower, but have 100 extra total HP, more rep and better eWAR. Along with better fitting space. Putting Armor on a min scout is a dangerous path because of how it seeks to emulate the Gal scout. Normally, this would be a matter of taste, but with the Gal having better natural fitting capabilities and eWAR, the Gal scout will always win out in that fitting battle. That is why I fervently believe that you shouldn't put armor on a min scout. Play to its strengths, don't try and turn it into a watered down Gal scout. For me, the fit is perfect. That Ferroscale often saves my life. That speed I get from being Minja has also saved me before.
I did run a Gal Scout before I respeced, but I found that the Minja had the perfect combination of speed, HP and Dampening capabilities for me. Besides, there are other little things that I dislike about the Gal Scout.
IT IS playing to the Min Scout's strengths to make a balanced fit of HP, speed and Dampening, as that's what the Minmatar do best; running balanced fits.

If for some reason you hate the Gal Scout, then by all means, do what you wish.
I've ran every single Minmatar suit at proto. Every suit can be either shield or armor tanked EXCEPT the Scout and Logi.
Logi is strictly an armor tank, and Scout is strictly a speed tank. You sacrifice too much on either suit to do anything otherwise. For example: Running a ferro on a min scout reduces you to 1 damp if you want to have any speed. If you want to not be scanned, you will be SLOW. The speed difference between an assault and scout without kincats is negligible, especially since a lot of assaults run kincats now with the extra fitting space.
But hey, if you don't want to run a Gal scout, I will admit that the build is the closest you can get to it.

You know 20m is a bit much and including floors.. you'd probably need a repeater along the way. That could start making a cable look attractive if short term costs are a problem.. But I would just go wireless N (5GHz) at that point with a repeater.. you can probably accommodate that below the cost for a similar AC set up? It'd be a number game for sure.
Plus you play games requiring lower latency. Dang man- a cable might just be the the best route actually given the particulars. Especially if you know there will be a lot of other people's antennas in between you and your system.
But definitely go cat 6 vs 5 (better insulation vs interference) and I only say that because of the length you re looking at. 300 feet is the max, and I have had issues in my past with a system that far from my network- ended up having to go fiber. The amount of packet loss was horrible.
100 feet and you probably won't see any loss, especially if you go custom length (minimize loss/interference but like I said it has to be done properly at the ends to retain the cat rating) and keep it away from power outlets/power strips/wireless phones etc.
how to crimp dat ****
I used to have to do this for a living ugh. Phone punch down blocks were the worst. It's not as hard as it looks.. And I don't know your area to say where to look. But an electrician store would be a safe bet, and typically you can even get help form the staff if you are charming enough! |

Yeah, wireless might be my best bet. I'm only about 20m from the router (Through the floors though). How strong of a card do I need? I don't think I need those 5GHz monsters with three antenna's, but I know a thumb drive isn't going to cut it.
Hah nice Mollerz I have deja vu. We also used to make up 10BASE2 cables.
Ghost - guessing going out of the window and back in isn't an option? Did that at an office I once worked at... |
