CCP Rouge wrote:Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your feedback so far. I'd like to answer a few of your questions about DUST 514 and Project Legion directly given the feedback you gave me. I've picked these four points as they are coming up the most on the forums as well as in the live roundtable discussions here at Fanfest.
1) What happens to my character, skills and stuff?
If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
- would be nice if that happened
2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.
- CPM clearly doesn't represent us or our interestGǪ We'd rather interact directly in a thread like this and please keep CPM away from usGǪ
3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?
It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on.
- this is the important bitGǪ After almost two years and thousands of hours of gameplay, i don't think any one of us dedicated players would want to wait another year or two to get this game on PC
It is not about the Money, it's just that we are not PC gamers, so we do not wanna continue in a game only for it to go to PC
Thank you for the clarification thoughGǪ

From what i have seen on fanfest EVE LEGION is way more than a protoype, the game is in a much better shape than dust is right now, the skill progression is much more consistent, game play is better, item balancing is better. So basicly, if you call Legion a prototype what dust is??
Please, DONT HOLD LEGION FOR AGES, release as soon as possible, not as a beta, as a full game, even if it only have one map!! we cannot give you feedback if we do not play it! Launch it as soon as possible PLEASE! |

It make's no difference what you say here RED, I SEE RED, with only a 9000 player base DUST is going absolutely nowhere and I will still feel like i've robbed.
Does this make sense, You know you can't get more cash for EVE players but you want to develop a new game for PC, so where to get the money. ?
It can't be PC as this is what you want to fund so where else can you go, OK I know PS3 user. I will not follow you to the new game, concept or otherwise, I do not own a PC nor do I want one.
So, when Destiny is released ALL corp members will follow, even those with EVE accounts.
Whats more, you've know about this for some time to have Legion up and running INCLUDING dynamic Scenery FAR EXCEDING DUST514 and Functional Vehicles.
SO FEEL FREE TO BIOMASS HEAVENLY DAUGHTER and it's 50 Million SP, just make sure you return the money you obtained under FALSE PRETENCES first along with the unspent Aurum.

But well, you sound like an experienced programmer who knows his stuff and there is not much I can say to that. I'm an experienced gamer, reviewer and tech suport guy who's well up to speed on the technical side of things. I'm not a programmer myself, but I have a lot of friends in the computing industry across both gaming and business applications, and I have enough involvement in the gaming industry to have picked up a lot. I've been involved in alpha and beta testing for a lot of games, many of which are on PS3, so I have that backing up my knowledge of the system as well.
I'm not claiming that the people working for CCP didn't "try" to make DUST work. I'm saying they didn't actually reach the limits of the PS3's capabilities because they don't know how.
There is a certain measure of what DUST wanted to be which simply can't happen on the PS3, but a lot of things - PvE, player market, etc. - are WELL within reason. Some of the changes coming into Uprising really should have been REVERSED instead of running with them for this long. Part of the problem is that someone at CCP got the idea that AAA games have to be "pretty" and fancy processing-intensive graphical effects are more important than consistency and framerate.
EDIT: A group of programmers saying "we've tried to optimise it, and we couldn't do it" is very different from enough examples where similar things HAVE been done within the same restrictions (or worse) proving that it CAN be done if you approach the problem differently. |

I am very interested in why you decided to NOT inform the Dust 514 community about CCP's intentions with respect to the direction of DUST/LEGION despite clear warning from the CSM and a dismal track record of NOT listening to your gaming community.
I dumped ~$500 dollars into this game not counting a second PS3; as my girlfriend also plays. I don't regret it. I was happy to support CCP's vision for this game and I had confidence you could pull it off and would slowly develop this game on the PS3 then PS4. You guys couldn't get it done. Whatever. I'm equally confident you could have explained your difficulties and decision making process and we could all be disappointed together. Honestly, I don't care about this. I am also a PC gamer and I have two active EVE accounts that predate my involvement in the DUST closed Beta. So I am interested in how you guys conduct your business.
I am deeply troubled by how you handled the ambush-nouncement. This is a fairly toxic but close community that have followed and supported your vision and also arranged DUST related charity events and have stepped up to get each others backs during real-life crisis.
Why did you gouge them with your Aurum item sales and events all the way up to Fanfest? Why did you allowyour DUST 514- only supporters to spend their money on airfare, lodging, and event tickets with full knowledge that you were about to disappoint and disrespect them? I will note that many paid for your Fanfest stream as well. These are not great economic times for many. No doubt some of our forum folks here traded off other vacation plans to be at Fanfest[/i] (I did not attend Fanfest)
Why do you seem so comfortable with this basic betrayal of trust and goodwill even after the large public backlash you've received?
What is the CCP corporate culture like? Is there a standard of quality and conduct, an image that CCP is striving for or is concerned about?
***
For illustration: I live in Seattle and I am a football(soccer) fan. In 2010 The Seattle Sounders played a curiously horrible game against LA. First some players apologized for the embarassing performance after the game. Within 24 hours the front office apologized to the fans and issued refunds to 32,000+ season ticket holders. Citing pride in their brand, and recognizing their supporters almost all of whom remained to the end of the game and cheered their team off the field. If I recall correctly; tickets at that time mostly ranged from around $45-$85 per game. In the press they said something like The execution wasn't good enough, the effort wasn't good enough...(and a few other items) Then they said The only thing that was good was our fans. (I'm paraphrasing). they now average ~45,000 fans per game. Despite, a few more missteps along the way.
***
I am not asking for a refund of any money I have given CCP. I've enjoyed the game much of the time I played it; I am fortunate that I have a bit more disposable income than I used to have. I am not lobbying for a refund to the entire player base.
But it would be nice if you could identify a small segment of your fan base (such as some of the DUST bunnies that dragged their butts to Fanbush 2014) and at least refund their tickets....do something!
I can't get how poorly you've handled this whole thing out of my head and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. So whether your trying to develop your corporate image or not...your actions are having an effect.
I apologize for the length of this.
P.S. And now that I've painted a blue and green target on my back ** Portland Timbers fans can bite-me. (look at the league table!) Also, showers should be daily, it's OK to shave, and you should brush your teeth at least a couple times per day.**

What about player's market?
What about "dust 2.0"?!
What about better integration with EVE?
What about new pilot suits or heavy and light ships?
What about amarr or minmatar tanks or lav's?
What about mechs or new game modes?
The list goes on and on. The announcement of a new game to potentially move the only console game of CCP to a PC only game is bothersome! It takes forever for a new meaningful update to hit Dust514 and legion is going to move those much needed resources away. The only way to see a positive light in all this, is: if legion is going to combine dust/valkery/EVE into one game on ps4 to have seamless space to ground combat. Right now, all we're getting is #skypie with an infamous "coming soon TM." The only reason I chose to keep playing this incomplete game is for the potential of everything I'm doing is going to go on forever instead of restarting annually. |

For the most part, I like you post, its constructive. But have you though about the fact that hindsight is always 20/20? I mean once CCP decided to change direction I don't think there was ever any possibility of doing it without a considerable uproar no matter what they did, precisely because this community is so toxic. Don't get me wrong, the toxic atmosphere its not only player's fault. I mean that up to this point both sides had a difficult road full of disappointments, but especially the players seem too burned out to try for a more civil tone.
And the idea of reimbursing for the fanfest trip? I mean if you are going to travel all the way to Iceland you better have more then a keynote or two as your main attraction. One usually goes for such gatherings for social interaction and preferably with a bunch of good friends. |

No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.

4) When are you going to give us more concrete information on Legion?
Again, Project Legion is still in an early stage of development but the whole idea behind giving a sneak peek at Fanfest is to get early feedback - and I really want to keep this discussion going, show you progress through dev blogs and such and listen to what you have to say.

1) What of our Blueprinted Items? 2) What if one of our skills aren't mirrored to legion? You say our applicable skills? Why not just liquidate our total SP, then convert it into the equivalence of legion sP? 3)What of our stats? Our total kills, kill-death-ratio, and etc? 4)Will pvp action radically change in Legion? 5)You mention collecting loot.....is there anymore to it than just running around clicking? Can we expect space-age dungeons (ship wrecks would be great for this), Insanely hard boss fights, or will it just be another farmville? 6)Will the player-corporation-alliance experience be better? Is there more things that we will be able to do as a team, and community, that will benefit our corporation/alliance, other than pc?

Pc people, you love your pc good for you.
Playstation players enjoy playing on our playstations
and i don't care what you quote about specs because i'm yet to see a single pc game that actually is better than a console game, thay might have higher end specs but you'll never get to see them as you're pc won't be top end unless you upgrade every year or so. Most won't you'll be playing a game that can look great but you'll have it set to a low performance.
Ps4 is quite capable, ccp is not.
Now i'm not saying it's gonna fail on p.c, but my feedback is this I play on my playstation 3 and 4, i use ps+. I've been a ps user since ps1. I don't like pc gaming, (although total war is good) I do think legion will be good. But i know i won't be on it. Give me a ps4 game and i'm there. Stay on pc only, then i wish you luck, thank you for dust 514, and say i hope you do better for your pc guys.

There will always be dissent and opposition to change. How people react to change is not the responsibility of CCP. I do not expect or particularly care about the community's response. My point was: There was a much better way and a much better time to disseminate this information. From a community relations perspective I can't see how they could have handled this any worse.
It's not about the reaction. It's about how CCP treats their supporters.

I think i can answer that. it was stated that "IF" the OK is giving to proceed with Project Legion dust will not get much further development if not any which is understandable seeing as Project Legion will be what dust could have been if it wasn't limited by the Ps3. but until the OK is given "IF" it even is given the ok DUST514 will continue to be worked on and improved. |

You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
Pointing out the obvious
First Off this was the smoking gun of the whole presentation and should have been said there. You would, not have only avoided the whole sh*t storm that the **Legion Keynote** created but, would have created a whole lot of excitement for the product. This product could have also been, if legally possible, sold as an upgrade to the DUST universe making it something the dust community could look forward to instead of dreading it's existence knowing the game they love is going to be replaced by it.
Feedback
Apart from that, There is a key word in the above statement that I do not think the community will be happy with. Applicable should not only be skillpoints attributed to the transferred character. The applicable skills should be put directly into the skill tree and any other skillpoints left over should be put into the the SP POOL for the player to distribute as he sees fit A.K.A. "redistributable"
Removal of learning skills in EvE online
Quote: ALL LEARNING SKILLS WILL DISAPPEAR
We're not kidding. In your head, in your hangar or in your anything else, they're gone. Vamoosh. Deleted. Sent to the big recycle bin in the sky. Etc etc.
All skillpoints invested in learning skills will be reimbursed, including all the fiddly corner cases. If you have 2,012,692 SP in learning, you will find yourself down those skills, but with 2,012,692 skillpoints to redistribute.
Reasoning behind the feedback
By only passing the applicable skillpoints there is a possibility that a character that has 40 million skillpoints only be allotted 20 to the applicable skills while a character with 20 million skillpoints might have the whole 20 million transfered to the new character. This scenario would not only be unfair but arbitrary. It can also be exploitable by players with insight, read CPM and their friends, that can train in advanced for this change with huge benefits.
CCP Rouge wrote:2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.
Feedback
I understand that the words underlined are key to this statement. If the brunt of the workforce is dedicated towards legion, Dust 514 will not get the attention it needs to survive the time it has left. The game still has some balancing issues that should be addressed and can be addressed swiftly before continuing since most of them are number crunching and balance issues that have nothing to do with writing large extents of code. This is as simple as listening to the community and making the damage/distance/accuracy changes in SMALL PERCENTAGES ( read 3% or 5% per pass ). Apart from this dust is in a good place.
THE OBVIOUS
[u]The one thing I will never forgive CCP for is not fixing my plasma cannon at least a Month before the server closes[u]
CCP Rouge wrote:3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?

I believe that making Legion for consoles would have a detrimental effect towards its development. Not only does a lot of constraints come into play; take dust as an example but , it also creates a time consuming activity which is finding how to make the game work all over again without any gain in actual content.
that being said I have heard, and someone can correct me if I am wrong, that PS4 and the XBOX One's architecture is a lot more like a pc than those of previous consoles.

Last but not least; while I was initially very mad, I am slowly coming into acceptance of this news. But i would also like to pose a warning to CCP. If the reason behind developing legion is because Dust cannot fulfill the vision you guys had in mind, it is in CCPS best interest to make this product available as soon as possible. This will not only achieve better feedback but will get balance issues and bugs detected . I would even go as far as to suggest an Alpha version and early access for dust players

For the most part, I like you post, its constructive. But have you thought about the fact that hindsight is always 20/20? I mean once CCP decided to change direction I don't think there was ever any possibility of doing it without a considerable uproar no matter what they did or said, precisely because this community is so toxic. Don't get me wrong, the toxic atmosphere its not only player's fault. I mean that up to this point both sides had a difficult road full of disappointments, but especially the players seem too burned out to try for a more constructive or at least civil tone. How to handle the plan to move to a new platform for DUST (while renaming it "Legion") correctly:
1. Make decision to start work on new project. 2. Begin project with a SMALL team splintered from the original DUST team. 3. IMMEDIATELY advise your playerbase that the next-gen version of the game is in the works, and if the plan already involves a focus on a PC version, TELL THEM THAT IMMEDIATELY TOO. 4. KEEP SUPPORTING DUST WITH NEW CONTENT FROM THE MAJORITY OF THE TEAM while the smaller group is developing the new game. 5. Make it as gradual and smooth a transition from DUST to Legion as possible, preferably with some overlap in activity and playerbase if at all possible.
How NOT to handle it:
1. Make the decision. 2. Divert the majority of resources to the new project. 3. AVOID telling the players, and ACTIVELY ENCOURAGE THEM to support the product you're abandoning by advertising it as still having the planned future you no longer have any intention of providing. 4. Finally let players know, MONTHS INTO DEVELOPMENT, that you stopped working on content for the game properly a while back, and are now heavily invested in the creation of a new product that will be getting the resources they gave you to work on what they're already playing, and which will also be the only way they can see the content you promised to deliver in the game you're no longer working on. 5. After receiving what should be a thoroughly unsurprising amount of backlash due to the complete incompetence of your PR process, concede that maybe you'll do some of the basic maintenance type work that's already several months overdue on your previous project, and try to reassure players with a plan to maybe transfer over some of their content from the abandoned game if it's convenient for you.
See the difference?
One will enrage even a relatively calm, polite and friendly community. The other will at least mitigate problems with the kind of toxic community CCP intentionally cater for (don't believe they're doing it on purpose? Think again). |

Davy Headhunter wrote:From what i have seen on fanfest EVE LEGION is way more than a protoype, the game is in a much better shape than dust is right now, the skill progression is much more consistent, game play is better, item balancing is better.
Huh? Did you watch something different to the rest of the us? Where was the actual fighting? It was just a pretty landscape, nothing more. LOL, releasing ASAP is a mistake, that's exactly what they did with DUST 514 and look how that's ended.
