Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your feedback so far. I'd like to answer a few of your questions about DUST 514 and Project Legion directly given the feedback you gave me. I've picked these four points as they are coming up the most on the forums as well as in the live roundtable discussions here at Fanfest.
1) What happens to my character, skills and stuff?
If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.
3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?
It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on.
4) When are you going to give us more concrete information on Legion?
Again, Project Legion is still in an early stage of development but the whole idea behind giving a sneak peek at Fanfest is to get early feedback - and I really want to keep this discussion going, show you progress through dev blogs and such and listen to what you have to say.
Please post your feedback and questions in this thread - and let's keep this conversation going. The team and I will be reading this thread, and I will respond as soon as I can.

Thank you for coming to the forums to reply to our concerns.
My first question:
In the event that "Project Legion" does NOT become something more than a prototype, what will be the next step? Will DUST continue as is? Or will the idea of ground mercenaries in New Eden be ended for the foreseeable future? |

Be prepared for rage. So, can we take this as 100% confirmation that somehow, someway, our characters will be transferred? Can I quote you on that?
And please, bring this to Ps4 the same time you do the PC, the reason for bringing it to Ps3 was to reach a different audience, correct? Well keep striving for that goal, expand EVE beyond the PC.

Now, this is a problem. Isn't your Dust514 community on consolle? so if I ever want to "keep" my character I'll have to buy a good PC, while I already have a ps4? Do I have to "wait" the Soon (tm)? A playstation 4 version of Legion?
I think I represent the vast majority of italian community:

A fresh new start, I understand it all. Many mechanics are just simply broken. But do a fresh new start on ps3 to some extent and ps4 with your awesome game.

Rouge, get this into your head. This started as a console game, and it needs to continue as a console game.
If this releases even a week earlier on PC than on the PS4, you are doing a great diservice to the community that stuck with this game for 2 years now.
Even if working on the PC version first will be easier, you will be abandoning the community, and consumer trust is something hard to restore. Do not repeat Incarna.

Why should I continue to trust in CCP having seen the way Legion and its presentation were handled?
As of this point, it doesn't even matter if I could possibly play on the PS4 in the future, as I cannot trust that you will stand by your claims. I would never have devoted the time I have to this game had I known you were going to abandon the platform.

thanks for the reply. i think it will help simmer things down a bit. I'm not happy about how the whole thing went down, but i understand why its being done and believe that for dust to be the game we want it to be, it needed to move away from the PS3. i don't really have a question to ask, but just wanted to say that i still support the game and you guys and look forward to legion. ill still keep playing dust in the hope that if our characters do move over to legion, ill still have a high SP character and tons of ISK.

My main question is why build a player base on console, and then shift to at totally different platform of PC? Yes, I understand that you all at CCP are far more adept at designing games on PC (EVE), but to build a community on one platform and then "jump ship" is just horrid.
An example would be as if the HALO franchise decided to jump from Xbox to PC abandoning the Xbox player base as development slowed to a crawl for Xbox HALO and development for PC HALO soared to new heights.
Did you only view us as "Legion Beta Testers" for the failed vision (on console) that WAS DUST 514? If Legion was meant to be on PC, why even take the DUST 514 console step? Why not immediately begin work on Legion on PC in the first place without the need for DUST 514 to even exist?

now thats more like it. think ccp need to sack the PR guys and get some new ones who can write statements with correct info so the s**t doesnt hit the fan liek it constantly does with announcements. this is the second time in about 6months we've had half fed info (the whole bpo removal scandal) would it realy be so hard to have had these FAQs prepared before announcing Legion?
as for fanfest itself the dust segment was a huge disappointment. had hoped for far more info

My second question:
I believe that Legion will be using the Unreal Engine 4 (Where as DUST uses 3)
They also will both be interacting with EVE online and it's database, and it's market.
How much development with EVE could be done "in parallel"; meaning are there things with EVE (such as OBs of today) which could be added to DUST while developing Legion. For example, many such features seem to be more practical to introduced into DUST and Legion at the same time, such as the "progression" presentation, as well as the full market integration (Which should be largely EVE-side code?) |

IN CAPS SO THIS IS UNDERSTOOD.....
MOST OF US DON'T GIVE A **** ABOUT LEGION. WE ARE CONSOLE PLAYERS NOT PC PLAYERS.
If Legion becomes a reality, we won't be transitioning to pc for it. Now, you may not care because there are some eve players that will play it and a few others. But you will definitely lose the core group of guys who have been spending hundreds of dollars on dust and helping you guys with the fps design learning curve. Now, you may say, "fugg the console players, there are plenty of pc players that we can tap into"....but then be honest about it.

You have to get that your playerbase for Dust is a console gaming base (regardless of the few who exclusively bought a PS3 for Dust and Dust alone)... It is immaterial how many of them would be willing to follow you over to a completely new platform when given no choice, THEY SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE.

If this does stay PC only, will you put effort into controller support? I am an FPS player born of Goldeneye, not CS. I have many years behind me with that interface and learning KBM now for FPS, not the actual purchase of a PC would be my show stopper. Work with a company to develope and market a Dust :(Legion) branded controller and I would buy it.
I truly hope this comes to PS 4. After many years of pain, my home is finally Microsoft free, and I would like to keep it that way.

Thank you providing something more concrete, rather than keeping us guessing. If 1) is a promise, I'm somewhat appeased.
I still don't know if I'll be buying a dedicated gaming PC, though. Then again, I'm not sure I'll be buying a PS4 any time soon, either.
You've started righting the wrongs, but I still think there should be some kind of acknowledgment that you could've communicated this way better than dropping the bomb at fanfest without any useful info of the game we have now - ie Dust. Also, an apology to the Dust-only fans that paid for tickets and flights to Iceland only to be humiliated during the so-called Dust keynote (which was practically devoid of info about Dust). |

Here are my questions:
You've said you'll continue development for Dust, great. Regarding that:
1) What Developers will be working on what title?
2) Are there any departments NOT working on Dust 514 anymore?
3) Do you intend to bring out actual new content to Dust 514 rather than just balances/bug fixes? This may mean new weapons, maps and vehicles.
4) It has been confirmed that PvE will NEVER hit the ps3, will the Player Market be developed for the PS3 title, or at least is that a consideration?
Thank you.
RIP Dust.
