Exactly LAZER FOCUS FOR COMMUNITY IDEAS AND MONEY, NOT FOR COMMUNITY AND THEIR GAME.
Hell they implemented whole our ideas in DUST 2.0 for pc, i bet they outsourced DUST 514 and i want from SONY to take close look on CCPs actions arout their game on Ps3 platform.

MMOFPSs have been done before. DUST is not special in that regard. What makes DUST special is the connection it was originally advertised to have with EVE, which is an amazing game. Strengthen that connection to its limit on the PS3 and then I believe the correct course would be to focus on porting to the PS4 with the intent of dropping the PS3 in favor of the PS4 (and potentially a port to the PC, not an independent product on a separate development path.)
I'd really advise against two separate products (MMOFPSs) in the same setting (New Eden). They'd inevitably step on each other's toes and one will inevitably get dropped to fully support the other.
EVE has set up some incredible patterns that have succeeded over the past 10+ years. Work to emulate those patterns as much as possible in DUST. One thing that stood out is that your vision for DUST (Legion?) progression takes our current progression even further from the EVE style.
How about some direct feedback on my feedback?

Ok, first off kudos to the people in this thread who are at least trying to maintain some sense of decency and rationality in the discussion despite being angry about it all.
The rest of you seriously need to stop and reevaluate yourselves before posting some of these messages. We all understand you're angry about this whole ordeal, but the way the majority of you are going about expressing yourselves with vulgarity, obscenities, insults, and just overall acting like a bunch of spoiled children is simply pathetic.
No one is going to take your message seriously when you come off like some child who's throwing a temper tantrum. So please, if you're going to try and give feedback, please don't make it seem like the DUST community is filled with a bunch of angry ranting teenagers.
That being said, thank you CCP Rouge for the clarifications. Many of us were not able to go to fanfest for the Q&A so any extra information you give us is highly appreciated. I am part of the small minority that is supporting what you're doing here. I will admit, the way you guys decided to handle it is questionable and people (mainly the console folk) are understandably angry about it. They view their characters as an investment they've made with both their time and money and now, to them, they believe that investment is simply going to vanish due to some inability to transfer over to playing on PC.
You've made it clear that our characters will persist which alone is enough reason for me to continue playing DUST. I highly appreciate that CCP is at least trying to make the right moves here. DUST was always a great vision that never really lived up to its potential and most rational people will agree that it's just not feasible to actualize that vision on the PS3, nor was it ever.
Now, the concerns about CCP pulling a "bait and switch" are highly valid for a lot of customers who aren't able to switch to PC and yet have devoted themselves to this game on the PS3. I believe this is something that should be addressed by you guys as well. Yes, you're a business and a business needs income to survive, but to suggest one thing and then pull the rug without notice is a bit sketchy.
As for Legion, I'm glad CCP had decided that the only way to move forward is to start anew. Sometimes the only way to deal with a bad dog is to just put her down. DUST sort of became this beast that didn't really seem to be going anywhere. The technical restrictions put a lot of stress on developers in trying to give us awe-inspiring content while remaining within limitations. The move to PC will definitely alleviate a lot of those concerns which I'm glad about. My biggest issue with DUST has always been the absolutely horrible performance it has on the PS3. The move to PC will finally answer that, which I'm glad.
My only question then is: what reason do we have to continue supporting DUST? It's clear with what you've given us that DUST has, like others have said, "one foot in the grave". Yes, you'll continue to "balance, tweak" but with no new promised content are we to just continue toiling in the same semi-broken game for the year or more it's going to take before we see Legion come to fruition?
We begged and CCP promised to give us something tangible this Fanfest, something that they're actually working on and we'd see results from. Project Legion is in "very early testing" and considered just a "prototype" and what not. These are not things that we as players see as something that will be tangible to us in the near future. The few of us that remained playing this game had hopes that CCP would use Fanfest as a way to revitalize our interest in DUST. Project Legion looks great, sure, and I'm anxious to see it released, but it serves nothing in terms of maintaining my desire to support your company in the coming months/year. And this is coming from someone who was excited about Project Legion.
DUST has become stale and boring, and to come out and promise me a new game that is still in "very early development" doesn't really give me a spark of hope for this game. Who's to say in the next year or however long it takes for Legion I won't just completely forget about DUST and move on to a new product. At that point, I'll already likely have vested interests in other products and may care very little for DUST. There's tons of new games coming out for PC that have been in development for a long time (e.g. Star Citizen) that are still in development and may very well surpass what you're going to be offering with Legion. All in all, you laid out a valid long-term plan but did absolutely nothing to address short-term concerns about the game we are currently playing.

So this post has no continued dialogue from the Dev who posted it? Just like all the other hot air they spew.
I just wonder how you the Devs can wake up and in good faith and go to work for a company who knowingly pushed aurum purchaeses for months knowing you were intentisonally misleading your player base.
I would never want to work for a company that I had to hold my head in shame.
You should be embarrassed and ashamed or your actions. I certainly am for you.
The insult of feeling the dusters who spent real. Money to go to fast fest was disgraceful to a level I can hardly believe.
As some who spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars supporting this game, I am ashamed of you as a company.

Thanks for letting us know our identities, assets, and progression will not be lost. I think that is one of the most major concerns.
This would have gone over much better if it had been presented as a possible upgrade to DUST you are working on instead of a different game. Especially if you also presented it as both an expansion onto the PC, and will come in time for the upgrade to PS4.
The upgrade to PS4 should be an important part. Mouse and keyboard give you no reason to pretend the PS4 can not handle the UI of a PC game. Quit pretending the console gamers are that different. Gamers are gamers. |

It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on.
It's not logic. PS4 is a PC architecture with a Sony Label on it That's it. So in fact you could devellop for both plateform.
It's simple, we are console player, your whole community IS a console community, we don't have Pc gamer. We want a console game, not a Pc game, it's simple it's easy.
You want it on PC : Well, NO WAY.
Start working on PS4 and NOT in PC that's pretty simple. Starting dev on the wrong plateform and it will be too late to change. PC is THE wrong plateform. You will be wrecked. You will lose all your base community, hacks will come, and you will NEVER come to the other PC shooters level.

We didn't serve as a beta tester for these 2 last year for others players. See you're wrong on many levels here. I myself am mainly a PC gamer. Many of us came here from EVE and have way more loyalties to the PC than consoles.
This is the kind of feedback that just isn't feedback at all. All you do is make empty threats about how they will fail.
DUST has what... 2k - 4k active players at any given time? You really think that's a lot? Sure, it's a community but it's by no means comparable to even some of the smallest FPS games on the PC. If it were me developing a game, I would gladly risk losing a few thousand players to gain the possibility of gaining tens of thousands of players. You know how I know? Let's look at statistics just on Steam. Steam (Valve) is just one distributor of games. There are a few others like Origin (EA) that offer FPS games as well as your standalone games...
CS:GO = ~145k currently playing TF2 = ~77k currently playing Garry's Mod = ~44k currently playing CS:Source = ~32k currently playing ARMA 3 = ~24k currently playing ... I'll skip a few until I get into DUST's currently playing range Planetside 2 = ~6.3k currently playing COD: MW2 = ~5.2k currently playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 = ~4.3k currently playing APB Reload = ~3.8k currently playing
As you can see, PC games harbor way more active FPS gamers than consoles. Even some obscure games I've never even heard of have more players. Hell, Battlefront 2 which was released in 2005 (almost a decade ago) has more active palyers than DUST has right now. FPS games were BORN on the PC. Your empty threats about how Legion will fail on the PC are just that, empty threats. Stop giving this type of feedback. No one takes this kind of crap seriously.

Sorry mate, the die has been cast. You may not be behind the mess, just as likely you can't fix it. CCP has effectively alienated a complete section of existing and future player base. Some people really underestimate console players.

...but damn it! Why did you did that in that way to do ? Like yelling on all roofs that Dust the past, and Legion "the new great CCP project blahblahblah - super excited! ". You just crucified the last few players who was trusting you for Dust. (EVE fanboys don't count even if personally I made part of them)
Whatever you can say about your politics about Dust you know like me how that's working. SOE will not wait the game will be deserted. They'll make a end to the agony when the game will not be bankable anymore.
CCP is now loosing a part of his community. A community who grow with the game and that will never follow CCP again for most of them. That's a pity because the project was a CROSS-PLATFORM, what appended with this great idear ? You was the pioneer of this subject, why not switching for PS4? I am a PC Gamer since 8 years old, I played EVE since 8 years but look at fps on pc! Look at Planetside2 with is a total brothel (bordel like we say in France) the game is hacked at 100%.
- Aim bot - Wall hack - Level hack - Stats hack - Lobby's hacks Etc....
If you ignored this parameter I think you have nothing to do in the business. Making a character on a biaised game have no sense for me.
Excuse my english... (je vous aurais bien dit le font de ma pens+Že en fran+šais)
This, And who or what for the sake of reason, has given you the idea to split dust into 2, relocate CCPs resources onto PC without asking your d++st community how they would feel about it in the first place? And why would you publicly announce a game on another platform than console during a dust future presentation, leaving out completely any information related to dust!
Since legion is not dust, what was the point of introducing legion to those that expected news for dust, an upcoming ps4 or xbox one release and a long term plan? Who gave you the idea? CPM? Or did you with the rest of CCP decided it by themself? Are yiu aware what this community is made of? Its console players, not PC!

I'll skip a few until I get into DUST's currently playing range Planetside 2 = ~6.3k currently playing COD: MW2 = ~5.2k currently playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 = ~4.3k currently playing APB Reload = ~3.8k currently playing As you can see, PC games harbor way more active FPS gamers than consoles.
That's EXACTLY what i'm saying, Why PC players would play Legion while they already have that much Shooters and F2P shooters which are 10000x better than Legion will ever be ?
FPS and F2P are way too installed on PC, from what i've saw Legion have NOTHING for him. Graphics ? Nope agianst PC FPS. Gameplay ? Let me laugh. Teamplay ?
From what i see you're not showing "Potential Players" You're showing potential concurrence.

well i suppose this small amount of information is good.
you'd of saved a lot of grief if you'd said all this in the legion keynote (and called it legion keynote instead of dust) hell it would have been better to hear this in a comprehensive dev blog weeks before fanfest.

A summary of questions I would like to have an answer for, and a couple of my own. Minor grammatical errors were corrected in some for ease of reading, but the wording is the same.
The Issue of Trust
It is hard to trust. Here are the questions that best illustrate that. The first one is paramount. The second and third show why.
Spademan wrote, "So, can we take this as 100% confirmation that somehow, someway, our characters will be transferred? Can I quote you on that?"
Spacetits wrote, "Why should any of us take seriously any promises made about Legion or your plans for it? These were all the same ideas about how awesome Dust was gonna be, from a couple of years ago".
Console vs. PC
Help people to understand. Some of us always suspected PS3 would not be able to survive, but many expected PS4.
Ziiro Celeste wrote, "My main question is why build a player base on console, and then shift to at totally different platform of PC? Yes, I understand that you all at CCP are far more adept at designing games on PC (EVE), but to build a community on one platform and then "jump ship" is just horrid".
Hakyou Brutor wrote, "Did you only view us as 'Legion Beta Testers' for the failed vision (on console) that WAS DUST 514? If Legion was meant to be on PC, why even take the DUST 514 console step? Why not immediately begin work on Legion on PC in the first place without the need for DUST 514 to even exist?"
Communication and Public Relations
This is perhaps where CCP, at least with DUST, has failed most spectacularly.
Nirwanda Vaughns wrote, "Would it really be so hard to have had these FAQs prepared before announcing Legion?"
ContraBanJoe wrote, "Where is the apology about how this was 'revealed'? You outraged your Dust514 audience both AT fanfest, and the thousands of mercenaries viewing it from home on the live feed. An apology is paramount to restarting constructive dialog in my opinion".
Transfer Specificity
CCP Rouge wrote:If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon. When stating applicable skills/inventory, that leaves you all a lot of wiggle room to essentially do nothing, and claim it was applicable. Specificity is paramount. Further, when CCP says soon, history has proven it to mean never more often than not. Do not delay. Figure this out soon. Oh, the irony. As in what the word really means, not the PR soon CCP has created, and even jokes about.
1. Clarity of intent is crucial. What exactly do you mean by this? Right now it just seems like a platitude and is worded to allow you all to drop any aspect of our mercs you want, and claim they weren't applicable. Can you state, clearly, this is not the case?
2. And finally, when is soon? Give us a date. Have a meeting, a discussion, a party, but stop saying soon, and start engaging in an honest discussion with this community. This post is an important, and impressive first step, but it's just that. We have a long way to go if you expect us to trust you again.

Personally(as someone who is more of an EVE player these days, although I did play DUST for over a year and a half) I've been disappointed in Dust. However, I can TOTALLY understand everyone's rage. Absolutely. I'm pissed at SONY for some other stuff. The Ps3 culture is dependent on people honoring their word. Paying money = entitlement. And it sounds like CCP isn't.
I totally agree with you guys on that.
Unfortunately, there really is only so much you can do on Dust's current engine. I find dust really frustrating for many reasons, controls getting harder being a big one(Why the **** are dropships so IMPOSSIBLE to fly?!?!). The maps are almost never varied(although I must admit that some of the new ones are really cool), getting into a PC match is one of the most boring things in the game(almost no rewards), Faction Warfare isn't really that good, the market isn't going anywhere, etc. Project Legion will be able to accomplish the things Dust lacks. I personally am really looking forward to it.
And really guys, if you want to blame someone, SONY is the one who is to blame. By making the PS4, CCP kind of got stuck with major limitations. There's really only so much they can do about it. They were flying up up up, and now SONY put a noose around their necks and they can't fly much higher.
In many ways, Dust for the ps3 was probably a mistake, although I'm glad they did it or I wouldn't be in EVE lol but still. I can totally understand your rage, although a refund isn't entirely necessary. I payed real money, and I got my money's worth out of the game. I'm annoyed at SONY for some things about my money as well. Although if you guys can get a refund, you probably should.
Although, if CCP allows you to transfer characters, I really won't have any qualms with them about Project Legion. The game looks gorgeous, there are many possibilities(Eg we might actually get industry and be able to actually benefit from the planets we conquer, maybe be able finally get walking in stations in EVE connected with PL, etc). As much as I am not happy about dust being treated this way, I am looking forward to the new game.

CCP Rouge wrote:Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your feedback so far. I'd like to answer a few of your questions about DUST 514 and Project Legion directly given the feedback you gave me. I've picked these four points as they are coming up the most on the forums as well as in the live roundtable discussions here at Fanfest.
1) What happens to my character, skills and stuff?
If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.
3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?
It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on.
4) When are you going to give us more concrete information on Legion?
Again, Project Legion is still in an early stage of development but the whole idea behind giving a sneak peek at Fanfest is to get early feedback - and I really want to keep this discussion going, show you progress through dev blogs and such and listen to what you have to say.
Please post your feedback and questions in this thread - and let's keep this conversation going. The team and I will be reading this thread, and I will respond as soon as I can.
