I revisited the Magsec on a minja in light of all the talk about it today and changed my mind a little bit. It's pretty awful when it's on a lighter suit. The only reason I was doing so well with it on my forge fit was because all that health let me stand still and aim carefully. In the midst of a big fight when you're bouncing all over the place trying to avoid getting hit it's pretty bad.

Hello brave scouts that live in the Barbershop, I'm here because I need your help.
I'm planning on creating a thread about WP rewards and stuff and I need to understand the true role of every class in the game.
Where should I find infos about scouts if not here?
I would like you to put the following in order of importance: killing, Hacking, using equipments, destroying equipments, defending Null Cannons, attacking Null Cannons, AV.
If you can thing of other roles a scout fulfill add them, I'm mostly talking about things that can be rewarded by WPs.
Thank you.

Bonjourno Mr Pagl1u M
1. killing (CQC / Assassination) 2. hacking 3. point defense 4. decoy / bait 5. pushing objectives 6. equipment 7. AV
A couple of points on my reasons: 1. It's an FPS. I don't care for those opinions that say a scout is for scouting which means recon. Personally I think that's BS and none of us would be here if that was what they were for. However they should only be good for CQC (and I mean <10m) and assassinations (using stealth to stab with high alpha weapons)
2. scouts are designed to be mobile and quick. Some also have hack bonuses. Only one game mode doesn't require hacking to win the game, two do, and those are the ones I play 99% of the time. Solo hacking a point away from a main fight can make the difference between winning and losing
3. Not that I do it much, but scouts with natural speed and EWAR can defend a null cannon effectively due to being hard to detect, and typically favouring high alpha weapons.
4. Pushing objectives isn't really something a scout can do - they are better off skulking round the flanks, perhaps as a decoy or bait. They don't have enough HP to push with a blob. I added this to the list.
5. I used to use REs but haven't skilled into those at the moment, mainly coz I can't fit them. I don't use a cloak either. Others here will likely place this higher up the list.
6. Anyone can AV, other roles can do it better. Scout may have a slight advantage due to speed but generally I don't think they should care about AV any more than the next non-AV-specialised class. Though if you throw (scuse the pun) the REs (especially the new REs) into the mix, this could get bumped higher. But that is equipment anyway.

1) Hacking I run a Minja, and I have always seen hacking, and I always play Skirmish, so I am biased here.
2) Killing. Its hard to hack or defend hacked points/objectives without killing, asking them to kindly go never seems to work.
3) Defending/Attacking Null Cannons. You can only do this to a point. If a Null Cannon is too well defended, you cannot attack it alone. If the console is too enclosed, its best not to even attempt with a group. If defending, it depends on the number of people attacking and their relative coordination and skill level. Some are oblivious and let you pick them off one by one. Others stick together, and if they have a scanner you can't even set traps.
4) Using/Destroying EQ Bandwidth has killed EQ (in Pubs at least). There is no point in hunting if its not being laid out, and no point in laying it out if you can use so little so ineffectively.

Thank you. 1. Using EQ's, mainly just links 2. Defending Null Cannons: We still have somewhat ghost-like abilities, therefore, for an outside point, we can make it look undefended, and get a few cheap kills when some poor scrub tries to hack it. 3. Hacking: This ties with the above for me as a minja, and is really the only reason one would run one in a PC. The speed hacks are really good, if you can get them down. 4. Killing. Scouts aren't very good slayers anymore, but they are still better than Logis and commandos. Shotgunning is also something Ive always been partial to. 5. Destroying EQ: This is every roles job, but scouts are naturally good at it because of passives. I wouldn't put it as a main job though, as everyone has to contribute to destroying links and hives. 6. Attacking Null Cannons: A scout blitzkrieg used to be a lot more fearsome, but they can help with flanking while the assaults catch up, to soften up hard targets like Sentinels that may be entrenched around an objective. 7. AV: No reason to use anything but commandos and sentinels for AV.
"Minja" and "Masochist" are synonyms.

I never set them near each other, so if one uplink got taken out, there was still another.
Then I got another set of adv links and set them up near other objectives.
When you are getting stomped, getting your team multiple spawn points and forcing your enemy to spread out gives you more of a fighting chance.
At least it used to. Maybe not with todays stomps though.

1. Killing. The primary function of combat infantry is to engage and destroy other combat infantry. Different types of combat infantry excel in different combat settings. Heavy and Sentinel units excel in engaging from defensive position. Medium and Assault units excel in frontal attacks. Light and Scout units excel in flank and surprise attacks.
2. Everything else.

At least it used to. Maybe not with todays stomps though. If you're getting stomped, there's a high chance you've got a bunch of newbies on your team. You separate them and they're just sheep waiting for the wolves to get them. You keep 'em together though, on some high ground maybe then they're going to give the stompers a run for their money.
If they can't kill a few like that, then they're completely hopeless if you separate them. But if they can, they learn. They become better, they know that they can still kill the uber players if they stick together and position themselves right.
Never separate a newbie from the rest, they won't last. (That's my take anyway)
