I never thought of my work as a poem, actually. It really was a toast to those I admired. Just sat down and wrote it right there - came from the heart.

The opposite was true during good times. When the risk averse fish could thrive without taking risks, they didn't suffer losses, and their numbers grew. At the same time, risk taking fish were taking unnecessary risks, and though some surely succeeded, many did not and their numbers decreased.
So it kind of makes sense to loathe the individual stupidity of someone, but at the same time, give the broader varied stupidity of a group at least a little credit for having at least a few people stupid enough to believe in the improbable/seemingly impossible such that our species survives.

A few weeks ago, during my weekly trimming of facial hair ritual, I did not realize that somehow my clippers got set to the lowest setting.
It was readily apparent after one swath was cut, and while I tried to adjust the trimmer to the appropriate height, it the reverse mohawk goatee was still obvious, and thus I had to practically trim it off.
It was the longest few days of the past year...
