I like the emphasis on big, epic, sprawling stories, and the focus on dialogue and character development. I also tend to love the music (Nobuo Uematsu is a god) I dislike... pretty much everything else to be honest The combat is too slow for me. I like taking an active role in combat and having that kind of control taken away is annoying. They also seem to use puzzles a lot and I dislike puzzles even more. Compromises, uh... travel and the open nature of the worlds is something I'm not sure if I like or dislike. Gear upgrading, crafting and inventory management tend to be annoying but if done right they're usually not a problem. I kept an eye on Ni No Kuni when it came out and it didn't seem like my kind of thing but I'll watch some more gameplay videos Stabby-stabber extraordinaire Gû¼+¦GòÉGòÉn¦ñ I stabbed Rattati once, you know.

I'm having a hard time trying to summarize but - Title Screen & intro - After that, you take the Reigns of a 'nameless' youth who on a dare from some 'friends' has headed out to a waterfall to look at some shiny object in the distance. Disaster strikes when one of the 'friends' causes you to fall from your outlook and you start to seek your way back to your town, you quickly stumble across the shiny object which turns out to be a sword firmly wedged into a stone and with your way barred by vegetation you decide to pull the sword from the stone. Turns out that wasn't the best idea, the rusty sword you took is the Mana Sword (an object of some significance in the universe) and it was the last seal keeping the power of mana in balance, with it undone monsters are beginning to roam the world and a lot of otherwise dark things are conspiring. In fact shortly after you make it back to the village, it's attacked by a giant monster called the "Mantis Ant", fortunately you manage to slay it... and the village elders take you aside and explain that you are an orphan, that you've screwed up everything, you need to go fix it and you're exiled. You first stop is at the water palace where you start to try and fix things by replacing the seal on the water seed (8 seeds of elemental powers: water, earth, wind, fire, light, dark, wood, gold/moon). More stuff happens and you're told you need to seek out the other seeds, seek out more weapons of a similar nature to your sword and finally restore the mana sword back to its full power (sword, spear, glove, axe, javelin, bow, boomerang, whip). Eventually you get some companions who have their own stories and you start to acquire the help of elemental spirits themselves (undine, gnome, jinn, salamander, wisp, shade, luna/aura, and dryad). Later on you're flying a dragon, fighting the 'empire', rediscovering the Tree of Mana in the Pure Lands (holy crap I cannot even begin to describe how important the Tree of Mana is to this setting) and the final act is smashing the Mana Fortress and saving the world. The engine they used to make Secret of mana was adopted to several other games, like secret of evermore, legend of legaia(I think) and the soul blazer games. Secret of mana had an awesome sequel in Seiken Densetsu 3 (secret of mana is actually Seiken Densetsu 2, with the original being a Gameboy game that had a lot of final fantasy tie ins) and Legend of Mana (which you either really enjoyed or kind of hated) but then the series went kind of downhill from LoM...
