Returning scout here, I haven't played for more than a year and have a few questions:

I have a caldari scout (proto) and all useful core skills maxed (except for code breaker). With that said, I'm totally getting my face caved in. This is partly due to the fact that I just can't aim worth a damn (haven't used a controller in 1+ years, coupled with the fact that aiming in dust is pretty hard from the get go). So I'd like to know what weapons are good to use with scouts (combat rifle worked well for me back when I left). I'm still pretty decent at sneaking around and picking my fights (cloak helps here), but I just can't kill anything even when ambushing them (yes, I'm a massive scrub).

In addition, I'm just unsure of how I should tank the damn thing. Should I go with shield extenders? Kin cats? E-war? I also noticed some people jumping to orbit, so I assume that stacking myofibs must be pretty effective?

So yea, just general tips or advice from fellow scouts would be greatly appreciated.

I've been playing a lot of warthunder on PC recently (and I have an overkill computer). So the ****** as **** graphics of dust kinda threw me off at first, I didn't recall it being this bad. Aiming with a controller is also something I'm unable to do anymore (or maybe it's just the fact that the game runs at 20-30 fps, which I'm not used to).

Ha, try aiming with a mouse in dust @ 20 fps in CQC. It's like trying to shave yourself with a mace in the dark (yo , cut it!)

I just can't make the scout suit work. Infiltration is not a problem, it's doing what's needed after. Running against full proto teams 100% of the time in my squishy as **** cal scout has not been a good experience. Basically, I can move freely where ever I want or stalk/follow enemies, but getting that kill has just been a very frustrating series of failures. I tried tons of different weapons, I didn't find anything that didn't require either god level aim to use (as skill I don't have) or simply did enough damage to garantee a kill before the enemy lasily turns around and mows me down with a flavored proto rifle.

Simply put, I'm unable to do mutch besides spying on the enemy blob and hacking things (both of which don't grant much isk and sp). Because yea, I'm also poor from tanking (I realized today that they're pretty useless considering that killing infantry is now very innefective, there's not much else to use them for apart from killing instalations and other (rare) vehicles, and proto AV id EVERYWHERE).

Sorry if this turned into a rant at the end, but it's my honest opinion and constatation as a returning player. Along with ADSs, scouts are by far the things that require the most skill to be made viable (assault/heavy/logi are a joke compared to this). Those of you that make it work are freaking gods, and I really wish that I had the dedication to achieve a similar skill level.

Flix, if you're having trouble killing unaware targets (which are close of course)

try:

Using your passive scanning to lay RE traps and lure - protostompers will hunt you as soon as they see you have ~200 hp. That's where you put RE's behind a corner and wait :) (also works with charged nova knives and sometimes shotgun, although if your ecountering heavily tanked opposition just stick to RE's and knives. Be sure to use at least ADV remotes, as basic ones don't instakill everybody.


PLC-shotgunning - fit yourself with PLC and enough tank to survive your own splash damage - use at point blank.


The infamous melee scout - cal scout has a lot of high slots so you can try this aswell, although best results I had were with minscout.
What's it all about? Put only complex myos in highs, cloak, and whatever else you see fit (prolly kincats or damps) and puch those dudes while being cloaked. Melee sometimes has problem registering, so be sure to be as close as possible, avoid trying to hit a guy that is running straight ahead and you can barely catch up on him.

It was a neat little club the first couple of weeks. Should've told everyone to migrate back when it was showing symptoms of death.

NKU was certainly active for a year. NKU eclipsed SU in terms of numbers about a month after its creation. It is only in recent months that the channel has ceased to be active. You'd be hard-pressed to find more than 8 people in NKU at peak times now.

Dreis (and NKU) came into existence after the Scoutocalypse of Uprising 1.8. Point being, by that time, SU had already been overrun by droves of mouth-breathing, booger-flinging FoTM chasers and a high number of legitimate Scouts had left SU. Not sure which channel had the highest population at its prime, but there was a time -- prior to the Scoutocalypse and NKU's subsequent inception -- when Sontie's original vision was realized and SU boasted a healthy and helpful headcount.
