I can definitely recommend roll 20, that's what I game in with my buds from various states (we play via google hangouts). Of course, a lot of it depends on the DM and I find that sessions break down after about 5 hours just due to having the headsets on that long.... but it's definitely enjoyable.

it is not for your hardcore D&D group, but is an easy way to get the basic dumbed down version of the game.

4.5, or pathfinder is very good, combined 3.5, and 4 into a very clean good system.

5 is good it gives the DM much more control over what goes on, like the older ones.

I should dig out my ADnD books......

I agree on that first one, but I admit that they were trying to bring in new players, but it ended up not being........ good. I have only run ADnD once, (my dad gave me his old books, and maps, and character sheets, and everything) was one of the best times I've had as a DM..... oh, and all of the monster manuals..... Monster manual, demigods and deitys, and the fiend folio...... Good times...... One thing I did kinda like about the 4th edition, was the gods it introduced..... that was about it..... MUSIC! Sned T.
