64 GB DDR4? CHRIST, are you trying to render the world with that thing? Also, I can't think of any real use for DDR4, not a lot of Mobo's support it.
I'm guessing you do lots of video editing if you're going to try for that much RAM. Screw my budget build, yeah grab a Titan X and never look back.

If you can find a motherboard that supports 64 GB DDR4 RAM go for it. I don't like to mess with the super high end stuff, most of it seems too experimental for my liking. For example: 2+ TB HDD's. Things get wonky after 2 TB, or so I've heard.

For me cost is not as mucha concern I suppose. DDR4 will be much better for rendering not just multi layer mats but more fluid animation/particle effects. Physics as well.
I'd rather be able to render a large detailed space in 2 hours vs 8. I like to tinker. 8 hour tinker increments suck. The 15+ hour increments I am dealing with now really sux.
So I am definitely going big. Video games will surely benefit, but it's not the main drive for beasting up/
Also, I plan to jump on rift ASAP as well- thus at least two titan Xs.. but even those a specious when it comes to any kind of performance with VR. There has been a lot of talk about Rift offloading processing to their device in another gen or so to offload processing from the Gfx cards. So hard to say.. but I do want to play with this gen.
Plus Star Citizen is going to be epic. Must play that on max settings when the PU releases... drool.

I'd say end of 2016/1st qtr 2017. I'm a sub/backer and I am privy to where they are with things. They just moved over to wwise for sound and are now 64bit. Star Marine is looking awesome. Way more awesome than I had thought. The mocap work they've done is astonishing.

Given I am OC'ing I am going with a 1KW PSU... probably a SeaSonic? I want that smooth volt delivery to make sure nothing burns out via a spike.
And yes- Titan Xs are at least $1KUSD each. The thing I don't like about the Titans are that it is a clearly a bridge gap until their next chipset comes out (10nm I believe). And that is what I will really want .. so I may go a step down in the meantime while I wait. The titan Xs in SLI are just good enough for 4K native I hear. I have to force myseld to wait until they put out the real sticky icky V cards.
