One was a real fight, two were new corps 'testing the waters' as it were. (I think we were one group's first PC ever)

Yeah, PC 2.0 is in an awkward state at the moment.
The new corps "testing the waters" are earning CP as their troops complete daily missions. If they don't use their CP, they lose it. So they attack and get their poop pushed it by corps on the opposite end of the competitive spectrum. All things held constant, I can't imagine that this morale-sapping model will encourage/sustain participation by new corps. Outside of Jadek's strange operation, I don't think that tee-ball players actually enjoy getting roflstomped by the pros.
That said, Ghost's complaints the other day show promise; it isn't just the new guys who aren't happy with the state of things. The pros (at least some of them) are getting frustrated. Established corps are seldom embroiled in actual conflict (too much effort), but their troops still want good fights and definitely don't enjoy wasting their time. All things held constant, the pros will tire of showing up everyday for next to no reason at all.
This is why we need actual Raid Mechanics. Give the new guys a shot at catching the pros off-guard or spread thin. The fights which ensue will be more enjoyable for all. Especially us.

You left out a part of it. Farmland basically doesn't exist anymore. The only corp I know of that even SOMEWHAT qualifies is Capital Acquisitions. Now, how do you make ISK in PC now? The more pessimistic would say "You can't" but they're not entirely wrong. If you want to make ISK in PC, you need the following.
1.) A team good enough to defend districts regularly without max clones.
2.) A team good enough to win fights and get ISK through fighting.
3.) A team good enough to discourage pointless attacks that lock your clones.
Then, you have to just sell off batches of 120 clones whenever you get them. You don't just drain districts and lock them until they fill up again. There has to be balance.
You can't sell off too many, as you leave yourself open to an assault. If you sell off too few, you don't get ISK.
As far as I'm aware, this is whats making farm-land not viable. The best way to make ISK to control just enough land that your corp can handle, and skim ISK off the top of your clone count. Which is what FA is trying to do right now. Get districts and start selling off batches of 120 to get paychecks out to our players.
Lord knows I need it. I'm sitting on 3 Mil ISK because I blew it all on skins 
In short, its a LOT harder to make ISK in PC now. It's still more lucrative than pubs and FW, but we're slowly inching towards the point where its no longer worth the hassle.
No risk raid spam is certainly not helping that "hassle" part. So long as most of the non-PC community keep living in the "Farmland" past, they will keep screaming to make PC less lucrative.
For crying out loud, check Dustcharts. As of 15:00 EVE, we have 19 locked districts out of 245, and a pretty decently spread out timer list (READ: Easy to launch attacks at any time of day. They used to all be early morning or midday, when almost nobody could field). If you ever want to see how much farming is being done, check how often districts are locked. If there is over 20% lock consistently, it means that farming is viable. We're only at 7% lock districts right now.
Side rant: Heck, there's over 25 districts right now that are OPEN and UNDER 150 CLONES. Seriously, if you want to get into PC, its so freaking easy. You might have to fight Latino lag, but you can still find fights and get in.
If you want to get into PC, USE DUST CHARTS. It's not that hard.

You know, humans naturally have ~180 Microseconds of lag in their eyes. Ears are actually better for some reason, easily reaching 140 msec lag.
100 msec = 1 millisecond.
Lag is in fact real.

If it makes the most fiscal sense for landowners to blue up or declare cease fire, farming in peace will become their at-rest state. Should a warmongering corp rock the boat or refuse to play ball, push them out and keep them out of farmland.
Everyone wants a paycheck, and everyone gets a bigger paycheck during peace time. If competitive corps are better off not fighting one another, why should they?

Thanks for the correction. I've done waaaay better with plcs. Once in a galmando I made a 150 meter kill on a thales sniper he pegged me once in the back, I turned over, looked up, and *thunk* direct hit on a cal scout. Romulus Hex gives me his props every time I go against him.

I understand what you're getting at, however....
PC is not "HIGHLY PROFITABLE" anymore. I used to get 30 Mil Paychecks every week. That was broken (Granted, I was fighting ~10-12 PC's a week).
I'm not saying that raiding in itself is a bad mechanic. It's an excellent way to check things from getting too peaceful in PC.
However, my problem with it right now is that you DON'T EVEN HAVE TO FIGHT. You can just launch attacks for free and never show up, wasting our time. Or show up in crap gear and make us play Ambush OMS with worse payouts.
As I said earlier, Raiding isn't a bad mechanic, but it needs a more elegant solution. Right now, its an unfun check to stagnant PC. The check is working, but they need to fix the unfun part. ISK for successful defenses and encouragement to keep raiding.
If you can make it a win-win for both sides, THAT is desirable. Non-PC corps (or corps wanting to join in) have the ability to launch attacks and check PC stagnation. If you make it ISK profitable for them to attack, they will KEEP DOING SO. Capitalism.
Making defending those districts and attacks ISK profitable reduces the monotony on the defender as well. Then, we have more reason to show up and defend. Right now, it feels monotonous. "We're only going to defend because if we don't they can take the district". That's literally what it feels like going into a raid. No excitement for a fight, literally going through the motions. Making defending ISK profitable gives another dimension to it. "I'm going to defend our district, and get paid doing so."
Oh hey, look. Suddenly I'm a mercenary. Nobody likes fighting a fight that isn't challenging and unrewarding. That is what needs to change with raiding.
