It is not the idea of high jumps in gameplay that bothers me. Tribes and other FPS' have had jumpy combat before and they did fine. Crazy low gravity chaos can be exhilarating and fun! Want to know how I know? Because games like Tribes, CoD: Advanced Warfare, and Borderlands have those mechanics (and typically better mechanics, I might add). Is that the new vision for Dust 514? Mimic others game's gimmicks?
I like it when Dust 514 tries to take itself seriously. Let Borderlands and Team Fortress be the tongue-in-cheek #LOLNOFALLDAMAGE #ROCKETJUMPFTW games, please. Keep Dust gritty, heavy, grounded, and stern.
Sadly, I get the feeling that is no longer the case. As much as CCP Rattati has improved balance his fundamental vision for Dust is a great deal different than mine. It is a vision without New Eden's influences, setting, and tone. Unfortunately, the New Eden setting and tone are what I find appealing in Dust 514. Slowly, I feel this game becoming less and less set in New Eden. The warbarge being handed to us without any effort or cost involved was the first hint. As nice as it is to be able to clean out my assets, the NPC market was the second indicator. Now with the lazily done myofib jumping.
Somehow I think this new vision for Dust 514 is tied to making it easier to market and those generate aurum sales... but that's a topic for another thread.
It is because of this that I think I will take a break from Dust 514. I will not be biomassing, just setting Dust aside and opting not to fund it for the time being. I will probably continue to lurk the forums hoping to see CCP Rattati post about the mylolfly stims being toned down. In the mean time, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to keep in touch: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RipleyRiley/

An active piece of equipment would have made more sense within the context of the universe. I imagine a piece of man-portable propulsion equipment similar to what is used on ships in Eve. Some players with more background in New Eden lore can help me on this, but aren't Gallente ships powered with plasma thrusters? The Gallente only have one piece of equipment right now so give them this one.
Activate the module and for X seconds (determined by tier) you gain crazy high jumps and falling damage is severly reduced. Holding down the X button in flight could allow you to briefly hover.
"But Ripley they have such a small team in Shanghai! The myofib module is easy to implement and this active module is haaaaaard! " Reminds me of a quote...
Quote:All good is hard, all evil is easy. Dying, losing, cheating, and mediocrity is easy. Stay away from easy. If CCP Shanghai can't implement something correctly, like verticality, then they should not roll it out.

I am a hardcore FPS player and a DUST 514 player, and I do want to bridge the gap between the two.
That said, I don't believe that being in New Eden means being shackled by EVE Online spaceship rules, DUST should be allowed some creative freedom to be what it needs to be.
Player trading IS coming to DUST 514 (barring disaster), the only FPS in the world to do so (if I am not mistaken) which stems directly from our New Eden philosophy, at no AUR sales advantage and a lot of strain on our small team. Same with Planetary Conquest.
I wholeheartedly believe that DUST is an unmatched experience and is getting better all the time. I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree.

Those are things to celebrate.
However, CCP Shanghai is also succeeding in ambulating one of the few things that made Dust 514 unique: it's New Eden roots. Without sticking to those "EVE Online spaceship rules" this game is just another faceless F2P FPS that everyone's little nephew plays because his mom won't buy him a AAA title.
Did you ever get around to playing EVE Online, by the way? It's kind of the reason this game exists so understanding Eve Online is important.

Rattati Ive been playing since closed beta, and you are right. The game has improved more in the short time you have been on the team then from when the game started until you joined. Don't let people try to put you down or any of the devs. From how dust was before hot fix alpha to how it is now is such a massive difference and it is hard for me to believe how far this game has come. People need to understand you aren't the same dev who promised us a lot of different things, and that they shouldn't feel that you need to fulfill them. Just the thought of us getting player trading is something many of us have wanted for so long now and it is a huge deal. Keep these patches coming! :D

Fair enough, but we've come a long way since the days of honeyed lamb. I agree that 4x and 5x myo-aided jumps are 'bit much at the moment, but I don't understand the general butthurt. We finally have a tactical alternative to "stack HP + hipfire + wiggle-wiggle". Is that really a bad thing?

Yep. It should have been an active module (not equipment, I dont guess?) that had the "press and hold LB (or was it RB? Halo controls confuse me) to activate this module for 30 seconds. Have fun flying!" But it isnt, and that's the sad part.

Possibly, but this is still progress. Would be neat to someday see Biotic modules and builds performing on par with HP modules and builds. Myofibs need a little tuning, but Echo is a step in that direction. So what if they took a path other than the one you'd have preferred?

The amount of customabliltiy in the game is amazing and the changes over the time has been the amazing as well. There is no other fps that even comes close to dust by my opinion. But saying that some of the recent changes just seem like copy's to me Such as the new jumping mod (advanced warefare) .
Keeping it positive I love what's happened to the hav's and the more damage to the plasma cannon (love that weapon) My point is that you like to change things for the better. But however doing so make other things even worse Example lav sentiel Which was a complete pain but lower the lav hp that much means I don't even want to get in the damn thing any more . Due to if I even hear swarms I bail straight out . Which is instant death
As well as failing at proto stomping I enjoy long walks on the beach and plasma cannoning people in the face

Active modules are completely foreign territory. Equipment is meant to fulfill that role, I think. If this had been a piece of equipment a dropsuit type could even be designed around it. Imagine a new light dropsuit with a bonus to plasma thruster duration and reduction to cooldown time.
So sad.

I too cringed a little bit when I read Rattati's post yesterday something about "Dust not having to be too serious.." Especially considering the content of the thread. Pointing to players discovering their superpowers over night and leaping buildings in a single bound... I wasn't aware I was playing City of Heroes...

The problem is that you've done an excellent job of simplifying dust514. Yes that's good, but it's also not what made the game attractive to us. Eve Online's complexity is what has kept the game growing for over ten years. World of Warcraft has simplified it's self and tuned its experiences to more casual players, and they have lost millions of subscribers for it. There are articles all over the web that try to analyse eve for why it continues to thrive when mmo giants are slowly falling to their knees.
I was excited for dust because I expected eve's complexity and freedom of choice to also be the games drawing point, but it's not that way anymore. Simplified UI would be expected and welcomed, but not gameplay. I know you work hard, and I know that your work is not over, but I do want some of eve's complexity to return. Simplicity is not a trait of Eve, nor CCP. Please remember that the universe this game resides within is not simple or friendly, and that it's complexity is it's attraction.

I agree you and your team has done a pretty good job, but it's clearly been done without what many would consider 'necessary resources'.
Why aren't there new models being introduced?
We'd all have loved a BPO Militia Amarr Heavy Laser as the introduction for rebalanced tanks.
Where are the Amarr and Minmatar Vehicles?
It's ok if the answer here is 'once we reach x player average"...
Will Planetary Conquest (or any other EveLink mechanic) expand into the rest of NewEden?
It's totally ok if the answer to this is "once EVE-O gets their Sov updates finalized in 6-8months" and it would have been ok to tell us a year ago that it'd be >18months....
I could go on, but I'm sure you're restricted in what you can respond to so I'll leave it by saying that many of us agree with the sentiments expressed on the most recent episode (03/09/15) of Biomassed Podcast.

For ye is correct my prophet, the scribes for told of the saviour being sent in a time of need. With Hotfix Alpha your mission had begun against the pharisee of old.
O' New Eden your cries are being heard but let us not forget that the serpent is always and ever present. We do not want to fall back into the dark days of Logi 514, AR 514, Core Locus 514, Tank 514, and now we are at Frogger 514.
Let us not forget where we have come from and where we want to go. The scrolls have for told of a greater Dust 514 experience one where we will meet in the Kingdom of Legion, but the path is slow and painful. This may be the time of cleansing where Dust Messiah Rattati will be cleansed in the wasteland only to survive the fast and return us to the goal. But Aurum is a tool that can be used for good and not an item to be worshipped to be abused. My friends only Rattati and the father Rouge know the goal, even his closest CPM have all gone the way of Judas. Let us not lose faith as the Bitter Mercs at the foot of Manus Peak prior to hotfix Alpha.
For those that will endure our saviour will not lead us to COD or Battlefield, we must hold our faith in the one to take us to a true Dust 514. We will survive the frogs (not the French but Frogger 514), but the trumpets have sounded on the old world (PS3) and we must move on.

I think we all need to give it some time. Everyone is trying it out, high jumping will die down soon.
Bottom line is, the mods are worth it for gaining a high ground strategic advantage, but they are only very situationally effective for general combat.
This is a good thing, opening up more strategies based on fitting plays directly into the main thing that makes this game great and unique, the fittings.
As for implementation, I don't see a problem at all. I can't deny that flashy animations and equipment would be nice, but in essence I have always enjoyed the ability to use biotics to modify our clones physical characteristics. Using drugs to make superhuman combat clones feels very New Eden to me. The jump mods are in the same vein as kincats. Why shouldn't we be able to perform combat drug infused super-human feats?
Maybe they could do with tweaking a bit, I don't know, but thematically I don't see a problem. If the meta settles so that everyone is constantly jumping around like mad, then I agree it would be thematically silly. But in a game where fitting variety is so crucial to it's very identity, any system the results in homogeneous play styles needs fixing asap. Hence why AR514 was such a problem and the hotfixes have been so good. |

I feel that its fundamental vision is in tatters atm.
Its link to EVE is next to non existant.
Its skill tree nothing like what is in EVE, lots of useless skills which offer no bonuses just modules and unlocks.
AV weapons are looking to become omni damage, guess what weapons would be next? thats right infantry so then running shield and armor doesn't matter, just pick your fave suit and gun and go to town.
'Your choices matter' well no they don't when it gets changed on a whim.
EVE motto 'HTFU', DUST514 motto 'QQ until it gets nerfed'
The vision of EVE/DUST corps working together by orbiting a planet and sending down mercs to get control of something to blast a ship in the sky while 10 different platoons are also working on the same planet and can talk and link with each other and swap from district to district to get the job done has long disappeared.
Templar One book does a better job of describing what it should be like but that is a book and it is so much easier to write about it than to actually do it.
I would like to try and say enjoy the game while it lasts but i'm having a hard time of doing that, it isn't the same game that i started to play 3 years ago and there isn't much of the old game left.

Anyway dust in some gameplay terms pretty simple; but the clunky UI and controls, terrible NPE, and a terrible way of explaining the fitting system is what made the game seem complicated. I don't think Rattaii has done much simplifying( at least not to something a large portion of the playerbase would) most of it is tweaks, bug fixing, and adding monetization to the game. |

I also am a huge fan of all things New Eden, and I agree that the jump heights are probably not currently working as intended.
That said, the idea of high mobility units is not contrary to the idea of New Eden at all. To offer an EVE parallel, many frigates, especially interceptor class vessels are speed tanked. Speed, and by extension mobility, has always been a valid tanking format in EVE. Translating that to DUST however becomes more complicated as hitting is done more by skill over firing algorithms, and the ability for a player to track a foe with their gun varies wildly from how larger capsuleer ships do so.
3-D mobility is an important aspect to New Eden, and to DUST as it allows those who would be speed tanked to dramatically increase the potential movements they can take to avoid fire, as well as move quickly in unexpected ways to ambush and use that speed as much as an offensive measure as it is defensive.
With more reasonable max jump heights, I see no reason to say the blues break the spirt and vision of New Eden.
That said, I do think the blue drugs should have a drawback, such as decreasing max stamina. (Lore wise: Such powerful biotic enhancements come at the cost of more exertion per motion causing you to run out of strength more quickly.) |

My father has not played in some time. When I told him about the super jumps and how much fun I was having with my 5 myo Assault, he brought up that "DUST has super soldiers but not mech suits. You can only go so far with what a mercenary should be able to do." Some people will always shackle the lore the mechanics because some things, while fun and should most definitely stay because it is the only thing since freaking beta that has made my Caldari Assault worth using, are hard to swallow as existing in New Eden.
As for trading: Valve beat you to it. CS:GO was released with full trading and TF2 has had trading for nearly 5 years.

Even if the end result is kind of fun, it does not justify ignoring Dust 514's source material and generally poor implementation.

This right here. I really don't understand how blue Gatorade is ruining the seriousness of dust for everyone. It literally came out a day ago, of course people are going to be jumping around like idiots. The simple fact is though, is that it is only situationally viable and like everything will die down to that after people get used to it.
Secondly the only thing your upset about is the way it was implemented? Think of stamina as energy and think of the Dropsuit having enormous power to weight ratio. What if they changed the description of blue Gatorade to "increases suit power to weight ratio thereby increasing melee damage and jump height". So what if other games have it. They probably do because it's fun. Dust will always be unique. Also think of the possibilities of having planets of different gravity mixed with myos.
I agree that myos should have a drawback such as increased stamina use or more simply, decreased maximum stamina pool as I believe jumping and melee take a percentage of your stamina, not a set amount. This would make equipping green Gatorade a must for jumpers.

On the note of "omni-damage types" that is currently only a discussion topic, not something that has already been set in stone.
Also, please don't use slippery slopes with your infantry weapons argument. The reason it was being considered for AV weapons was because there is currently a severe imbalance in anti-armor vs anti-shield AV, and that imbalance is problematic. The arguments for balanced damage types for AV basically boiled down to a concern of balance with what we currently have.

BLR has the ability to gift items to other players but it costs 25 ZEN (same as AUR but roughly .01 per zen). It is great that you guys are not going that route but the potential AUR upside you have from trading is absolutely astronomical. Keys and possibly components have the potential to earn you guys more in the first few days than you have in months before. If components are available to trade I will be indirectly making you guys several hundred dollars on day two just because I will be dumping 1-200 million in ISK on getting other players to sell me components. The same is being planned for keys just not as much volume. There are newbies out there who will gladly buy key bundles and components in exchange for ISK I just hope those of us with lots of it to throw away have the ability to make them do that spending for you.
As far as unmatched and getting better all the time I will totally agree with you. Few games push the social aspect on people as well as Dust does and the ones that do are just not as fun. Getting better all the time is more of a product of what a mess things were before but I believe you have done a great job getting those cleaned up and hope to see some forward progress very soon. |

...Then again, you might be talking about Borderlands 1.
And no, jumping isn't silly. I did it all the time in Metroid Prime, all of the Crysis games and Mirror's Edge. And all of them are serious games. I can list dozens for you, none of them silly.
You want silly jumps? Go play E.Y.E. and upgrade your cyberlegs. THAT is what silly jumps look like. Even Unreal Tournament or Quake could be considered a bit silly. Serious Sam is definitely silly. But that's not what the blue pills do. They are far from the greatness of jumping three stories high and pulverizing the head of a not!Cyberdemon with an exploding hammer, followed by spraying HMG bullets at further targets, healing yourself with a syringe and then going invisble on landing.
The new jump ability gives Dust the sorely lacking feel of superhuman mercenaries with customizable armor. We can finally make a conscious choice to add verticality to our repertoire. This is what the game should be all about. You are a mercenary. All of your stuff is supposed to be custom made for your needs. Let the jumpers jump. Let the sprinters sprint. Let the dual tankers achieve consistent success and proper point defense.
However, I feel that heavies should have gotten a vaulting feature instead of compensating through myofibrills. |

You unlike the forum trolls seem to understand that these patches are all being worked on, one at a time, so they take time to roll out or come out in small chunks. They had a bad patch, they have had these before (Remember the first Cloaking devices, geeze, my butthurt is still sore from the PCs at that time. I was logi at that time, so real butthurt because we got shotgunned and knived so badly we made Deliverance look gentle.) It took them 2 months to fully shake that out and we got a decent piece of equipment out of the trade.
Hell, I find these stacking jumpers funny because I was the only scout I saw still running enhancers and damage mods over trip blues. Cool, you jump high, I can see you and I have my reds and a full sprint bar. You can't adjust that much mid air. All they have to do is have each blue reduce the sprint bar regen by x%. Done, problem fixed. you jump to the moon, but only once.
Secondaly: These changes need a little time to settle out or CCP will be doing their usual knee jerk fixing. The game is separating from New Eden a little, but it could come back once all the crazy gear is released and major game enhancements finish out. They can release code that upsets the whole meta adjust, then do that again 2 months later, or they can wait to release all the major changes then adjust back to new Eden.
Thirdly: Ratati wants to promise us the biggest of the bigs, Eve ships transporting and contracting with Dust mercs, but they need to get the mechanics inline first. The warbarge was a let down for me but I know that is phase one. What you don't understand is I think he might be clever enough to rope our corps into New Eden and finish what Dust wanted to do in the first place. Before that happens we need player trading and an active economy which is a huge driver in EVE. The NPC market was the proto type for player trading/ player market.
I think the player market and PC 2.0 (Or just gaining value from districts) will change the face of the game. Imagine giant trade alliances, or OH buying all of one weapon type then rushing a class without its counter. These are issues we will have next so they need the infrastructure. Also, be glad Ratati replied. That shows he cares.
Let me give you my favorite analogy I give my clients, "We are headed on a road trip vacation while turning a minivan into a BMW. Some people are going to comment about the floor mats now being smaller, but when we swap the last parts out, you will see what we were building." Crazy low gravity chaos can be exhilarating and fun! In the mean time, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to keep in touch: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RipleyRiley/Milk salesman, shitposter, scout shooter, Ripley Riley

Active modules are completely foreign territory. Equipment is meant to fulfill that role, I think. If this had been a piece of equipment a dropsuit type could even be designed around it. Imagine a new light dropsuit with a bonus to plasma thruster duration and reduction to cooldown time. So sad.

I see that the game is being iterated on, Balistyc. It's being improved on, in typical CCP fashion, slowly but surely. My concern is that CCP Rattati is no longer concerned with how his vision for the game fits into New Eden. His attitude has basically been that "Dust is different than Eve because fun is a reason" and that means he gets to discard source material as needed.
The chief reason I'm still interested in this game is because of the New Eden setting. Sure, I like the customization and the ScR gives me a chubby, but I can find similar thing in other games. I can't find a New Eden FPS anywhere else but here... and pretty soon I might not even find it here anymore
I don't believe Rattati overarching plan is to slowly lead us back to the New Eden setting after some patches. In fact, I think the goal is to distance DUST 514 from New Eden as much as possible so as to make the game more approachable and thus more profitable. Dust would probably sell better to the casual market if it were more fluffy and cuddly and "wheee look look I can jump really high mom!".

We live a virtual universe where our conscious mind is actively being recorded, transmitted and upload into empty husk clones in real time, so that the nano second it stops recording from the primary source, a new clone is awoken, to begin the entire process over for all effing eternity.
We have battle tanks that have the most absurdly powerful electromagnetic energy force fields deflecting super dense volitile spheres of metallic elements spun into a plasma state with relative ease.
We have combat knives with an arcing plasma blade to cut through the most sophisticated heavy metal armor platong our fake universe can dream of.
And you believe that over injecting our hyper advanced humanoid bodies with superduper muscle force juice so that our highly actuated combat suits cant jump to incredible heights of whats only 40-50 max when we ourselves stand 9 feet tall? That last one is shattering the illusion of the new eden you know?

I was logi at that time, so real butthurt because we got shotgunned and knifed so badly we made Deliverance look gentle.) It took them 2 months to fully shake that out and we got a decent piece of equipment out of the trade. I do remember the cloaking device roll out. That was done by the old guard. Rattati and Co. was supposed to be better than this. He said he played with the fittings on a devbox. How could he have not seen these moon jumping antics in QA? I see that the game is being iterated on, Balistyc. It's being improved on, in typical CCP fashion, slowly but surely. My concern is that CCP Rattati is no longer concerned with how his vision for the game fits into New Eden. His attitude has basically been that "Dust is different than Eve because fun is a reason" and that means he gets to discard source material as needed. The chief reason I'm still interested in this game is because of the New Eden setting. Sure, I like the customization and the ScR gives me a chubby, but I can find similar thing in other games. I can't find a New Eden FPS anywhere else but here... and pretty soon I might not even find it here anymore I don't believe Rattati overarching plan is to slowly lead us back to the New Eden setting after some patches. In fact, I think the goal is to distance DUST 514 from New Eden as much as possible so as to make the game more approachable and thus more profitable. Add onto the top of that we really don't care if said clone dies because of said gatorade; we get a new one in mere seconds. Space marines probably care because of how long it would take to replace one of them.
Hell I bet our suit reactors are unsheilded and lets not get into the radiation involved with shield systems there is a reason why personal shields don't exist for normal people.

That sounds pretty amazing. Maybe a new line of light dropsuits that get bonuses to jumping and active jump packs when enabled? It would certainly be refreshing to see a new suit type added that takes advantage of verticality as a primary attribute.

Jump Infantry or something? THIS is what I wanted from the get-go. See my last couple paragraphs in my OP and tell me that doesn't sound kind of cool. Imagine a dropsuit who has the role of sky-overwatch. That is so much more badass and New Edeny than Mr. Hulk Legs McMario Jump.

I really dont think that the premise of "other games do it so you shouldnt" gets you anywhere from a design perspective.
If some feature is awesome in principle, is easy to implement and easy to tweak, why disregard it? Just to be contrarian? Just because it doesnt fit into your, frankly, extremely limited and conservative view of a setting?
This mindset is backwards and self gagging and a designer should never adopt it If he wants to build great things.
New Edens flavour was never only grim and gritty. More grim and witty I would say. As long as there are no clowns driving tiny cars relax and play! I personally find the color schemes of most apex suits much worse in terms of flavor!

The thing about comparing Dust to other games with really high jump mechanics that no one seems to be pointing out is that in other games everyone jumps high, in Dust must people stay on the ground and only a few people in really niche (and poorly fit imo) suits are jumping high. It doesn't draw my immersion away from New Eden at all because of this little distinction. Extreme specializations are extreme.

I kind of disagree with the concept of a piece of equipment.
There is a lot more to lose by having to stacking a lot of Myofibrils than to simply lose an equipment slot for the same capability. IMO, it's well balanced to have shield tankers basically become fragile and armor tankers lose their capability to increase damage. It comes at a major cost to both tanking styles in one way or another. This isn't something that would be the case with equipment.

Right. Another thing that I keep reminding people is that this is New Eden, set 23,000 years into the future.... And somehow we are just now finding a way to reach rooftops without the necessity of a dropship.
Dust 514 has -ALWAYS- needed more Sci-Fi. For once we finally have something that makes us legitimately -FEEL- like the super soldiers we were always described as instead of walking spreadsheets with minor variations of numbers that really don't mean jack (scrambler rifles still punch through armor like it's no-one's business). Incidentally, when we finally get that, people clamor for reform because "it kills the immersion".... in a sci-fi game.... that a decade ago the developers of this universe said doesn't operate on newtonian physics...
I can't wrap my head around it. My only explanation is that the community is literally a bunch of CoD/Battlefield players who want the same mediocre modern shooter just with different skins.

Logged in to play a few games. Haven't been on since 1.10 dropped. The jumping stuff is really gimmicky. Honestly they should have just increased jump height across the board by like 10-20% instead of making a module out of it.
Infantry only Ambush was pretty cool. Sad that it took almost 2 years to finally implement because all my Spambush buddies don't play anymore.
My biggest gripe, and it seems like it's only gotten worse from the last time I played, is the framerate is still absolutely awful. I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will never get better at this point. Sad really, I really would like to start streaming again, but I just can't play more than 1-2 games without getting frustrated at how poorly the game runs.

I'd argue a suit would be more interesting, and the jumppack work more like the cloak field, fittable, but difficult to do so without the jump suits.
That way you could build the suits around the concept of verticality, with the suits also able to give bonuses to this play style that help cement the role into New Eden.

A piece of equipment would not only require the horrendous equipment wheel, but would also allow you to use short hops. So, overall it would be a major buff, both in slot layout and in functionality. Which makes it hilarious that nerf advocates are in favor of a jump pack. In fact, a jump pack with a separate cooldown would allow you to pull additional ordinary jumps after activating the damn thing, due to stamina not being drained. Unless you want jump packs to drain stamina, which is a point where I'm wondering why you are even arguing about suspension of disbelief.
Also, jump jets would require their own model and animation. And that seems to be a major bottleneck right now, considering the proposals that Rattati made for heavy weapons.
By the way, does anyone else feel that myofibs should get an associated sound effect? IMO the power of the jump should produce a sound. It would have a side effect of making cloaked kangaroo scouts easier to detect. |

I have no idea what a "nerf advocate" is exactly, but your complaint seems to be that a piece of equipment would allow you to fly then jump some more... okay. Yeah. Not seeing an issue with that if super jump myofibs aren't in the game.
As for the jump pack taking stamina; I never said that. I said there are ways to balance the jump pack. Stamina was not at all the first thing that came to my mind. Scan profile increases, scan range reduction (similar to the cloak), armor and shield regeneration halting, inability to swap weapons until landing, audible noises created that give away your position. Get creative.
Also, the equipment wheel isn't as responsive as it should be. It needs to be fixed. They should work on that.(1). Moving on.

either way current record for assisted jumps is 23ft about. The height were almost jumping (hard to judge considering how tall we are) but at apex of the jump to size of people on level ground looks the same from top of my house roof which is about 30 ft up. I mean if we get nylon and plastic to sling shot us that high. How hard would it be for a 400 years in space civilization to gene therapy from geasshoppers?

Ripley Riley wrote:It is not the idea of high jumps in gameplay that bothers me. In the mean time, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to keep in touch: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RipleyRiley/Milk salesman, shitposter, scout shooter, Ripley Riley
Ripley Riley: gets a feature he specifically requested and then quits dust bc of it. Wow. I just want to let everyone else here see how ridiculous that sounds. Moving on to address your concerns:
lolnofalldamage? Like when you hit Tue ground after a massive jump and your shields drop to nothing? I like that we can jump far enough now to get a full charge on the knife, and I laughed my ass off when I tried to do so and overshot my jump. For the first time in a long time the kill board read "Greiv Rabbah fell and died" I totally deserved it and it was hilarious. The assault I was trying to eviscerate was just like "wtf?!" And ran off.
Rocketjumpftw? If this is the direction were going, why did CCP even bother removing flaylock jumping? Or did you start playing more than halfway into uprising and never saw that? Flaylock jumps were awesome, so long as you didn't care that it wounded you, and if you weren't careful of the fall distance impact would finish you off. Actually, I still ccan't figure out why, when it was as fun as it was and also as dangerous as it was, did that ever get removed?
Frankly speaking, both flaylock jumping and myofibs leaps not only make sense but are perfect examples of minmatar ingenuity. Both of these things were developed by the minmatar, and thebest minmatar ttinkerers are sebiestor, who are notoriously eccentric. Also, minmatar are masters of making something out of nothing and creating ingenious solutions to peculiar problems. Typically solutions that nobody else is too eager to toy with.
Myofibril stimulants increase the force put out by our limbs. That means not only stronger punches, but also stronger jumps. Flaylock fire explosive charges, and explosions release massive amounts of kinetic energy.
You want to talk about new eden needing to be super serious and gritty and make sense? How is myofibs causing strength in both arms and legs to be increased not serious? Most people won't even use them in a week because they'll be tired of getting shot out of the air. And really, that makes sense as once you leave the ground you can't just maneuver about as though you were running, you're committed to the jump. The only way that makes sense TO be able to change direction after jumping would be with flaylock or mass driver, which would be even funnier bc if ppl started flying off backwards whenever they shot a mass driver while floating, people would put their mass driver/myofibs fits away quicker.
The player bases actions in new eden have always determined the tone and the fact that you don't agree with the tone of gameplay the past couple days doesn't mean new eden is falling apart, it means your vision in your head of new eden isn't actually new eden. Its just your fantasy. I'm not saying don't dream big for dust 514. Anybody who reads my posts will know I am in no position to say that. But keep in mind that your fantasy is not the reality of new eden.

Hey, I just had a devil's advocate thought: Jump height could be reduced if vaulting was added. The jump height needs to be this high in order to be functional. Otherwise you just crash into containers instead of jumping on top of them. But if there was vaulting (Causing you to grab ledges when you jump against an object), jump height could be made lower and thus more "believable". (Then again, "believable" is arbitrary for superhuman meat puppets) |

Also i'm personally happy with how you did Myos.
However, should an equipment come out later on to make "jump packs" a thing, Myos' jump height would need to be dialed back a bit.
Also any plans on making Myos a bit less "Proto or bust"? Maybe we could do 15-20-25% and improve each suits' base melee to be at least somewhat reliable on its' own?
E.G. Minmatar Assault currently does 120(?), maybe make it 180 to 220, and bring the Minmatar Commando's from 240 up to 340, such that we can still have our 600 melee fits, but make it less utterly reliant on Prototype modules.

Infantry only Ambush was pretty cool. Sad that it took almost 2 years to finally implement because all my Spambush buddies don't play anymore.
My biggest gripe, and it seems like it's only gotten worse from the last time I played, is the framerate is still absolutely awful. I thinfew rk it's pretty safe to assume that it will never get better at this point. Sad really, I really would like to start streaming again, but I just can't play more than 1-2 games without getting frustrated at how poorly the game runs.
I think removing pilots from ambush was wrong. But that change was A YEAR ago, and the devs won't be reversing the decision. You seem to have missed that echo only removed ALL PLAYER OWNED OMS from the OMS gamemode. A game mode that should be focused around OMS. But hooray. Ignorance won in the end. Dust 514 no longer has 4 game modes.
OMS should NEVER have been moved to the ambush queue. But since it did, and instead of making the logical request of giving OMS queue back to us as a vehicle focused mode, ccp has destroyed oms. And somehow ccp cant figure out wht vehicles dont have a clearly defined role. Hints: pve would give pilots something to fight that isn't infantry, player owned turrets would as well, a game mode for pilots and av would as well. Bringing back the old vehicles would as well, although balanced.
Overall, turning OMS into ambush was a big mistake and I hope cCCP will realize that

Jumping is a little crazy. New Eden loses its **** when big changes shake up the meta but my experiences so far make me think that we should implement a charge-delay to high jumps. That way you can get the tactical use out of the module, but you're denied the bunny-hoping madness we currently have.

Based on what I found during testing (there's a thread), x3 Complex Myrofibrils allows you to jump about 20 feet on the dot if we assume that all mercs are about 5 feet tall.

I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree. I don't think it should be shackled by eve online spaceship rules, Nor do I think we should be ignoring that there is a vast source of reference material provided by eve on which a great deal of new content can be easily developed. When a dungeon master creates a new adventure for their group, they are of course free to take liberties with the campaign setting, but generally its a good idea to try and make changes you make to how the game works either stemming from concepts outlined in theboriginal campaign setting, or else at least have the changes make sense within the campaign setting.
Myofibs jumps makes sense within the setting: blue juice gives strength boostGåÆstrength boost allows stronger punches. From this, its an easily logical conclusion that: blue juice gives strength boostGåÆstrength boost allows higher jumps. Thruster packs are also an interesting concept. There should be some inherent danger in them i think, or at least some reason that myofibs would be better for one situation and thruster packs be better for another situation.
Either way, under the generally accepted thought process that myofibs make you physically stronger, the jumps are the right way to go. Dont let ripley get you down on account of his "boo hoo i got my way so ill quit" attitude

Mind if I scream out against this? As it currently is, the DEFINED IN GAME melee focused role gets no bonus to melee anymore and already doesn't have the highest melee damage if you stack myofibs. The only real melee advantage the minja has is a high base melee compared to other suits of its weight class. By which I mean 120 compared to a commandos 240. Now I already see a problem there but let me read you sonething from the class description in game:
Biotic augments make this suit ideal for a melee-focused role. Woven into the suit, a tremor membrane saturates muscles with nutrients amplifying the cross-sectional force of physical strikes. Combined with rigorous training, this temporarily enhanced strength and dexterity make the Minmatar Scout almost unmatched in hand-to-hand combat.
Grammar aside, this description does not ring true in either the roles bonuses, its stats, its fitting capacity, or its slot layout. Increasing the melee of other roles, which already dwarf that of the minja, would only widen this chasm between the roles defined purpose and its common usage

Without question Rattati & crew deserve a lot of credit for what they've achieved with the hot fixes and client update. I am grateful for what they've done with DUST.
But it is also true that the tone of the game has been changing and for me it feels like a move away from the New Eden that forever engraved itself into my consciousness.
When i think about using my first Wolf, which took me months to buy/fit, as the bait ship to lure in Vagabond raiders, or 57 jumps up the Konora pipeline(before bubbles) to Stain with a years worth of wealth in the belly of a cloaked mammoth and nothing but handmade tacticals to keep me alive or our small corp getting jumped in Null by Nero/Rome and fighting them to a standstill or fighting alongside the Russians on the Konora gate.....

I wanted a piece of equipment, not a passive module.
Second, I am not quitting Dust. I am taking a break for a while. If Rattati tones down the myofibs I will probably return sooner rather than later. I'm honestly not sure if my post is on the track of the author's thread, or is derailing it if I talk too much about the Myo-fibril debate. So I'll try to touch on both:
I'm viewing the "JUMP" feature the same way I view the "cloak" device. It's a device in first-person gaming that has been around in previous titles for YEARS. Previous incarnations were "the stim-boost briefcase", "the inviso-power", "the stealth-shield", "the Jetpack", "the Teleporter Pad" etcGǪ They are always considered 'fun' by those of us (a BIG portion of us) who like to "Ninja-Blitz" or move around the board so erratically that "Elmer Fudd can't catch the Wascally-Wabbit". We just have to be careful, that this effect doesn't cause such much rapid pandemonium that it derails what ( I think) is trying to be "think-driven", "weigh-your-risks" gameplay. And even if the Air-Jordan device is here to stay, and gets tweaked sufficiently, there'll always be some of us who (like me) are willing to tolerate it, but believe that gear/vehicles that take us too high off the ground won't strengthen Dust's unique identity.
And Dust's identity HASN'T changed too much from what it looked like when I joined (not to me, anyway). It still does what EVE-Online can't do (owns an area of New Eden real estate EVE can't own), and that is IMMENSELY important. Having some of EVE's gamble-vs-reward mechanics, but veering away from other of EVE's mechanics (whether voluntarily or by functional necessity), actually helps ensure there's enough connection between the two games that Mercs/Capsuleers value assistance from each other, AND also that there's always something each game can do that the other game can only envy.
I may not endorse some of the fun devices Rattati's team may have helped bring to the character-abilities (I can guess Rattati is a fan of those teleport/inviso/stimpack/wascal-wabbit games of our youth). But I do endorse every one of the new devices they've helped bring to the Asset-management, Wealth-manupulation, Growth-monitoring parts of the game. Those are the parts that give Dust its fundamentally New Eden atmosphere. And I don't think that unique atmosphere and vision (daring, weird vision ) have been lost at all.
As long as you keep bumping into a hefty amount of players out there protesting that "this game is so different and twisty that it's got me confused", you'll know this game is still right on track.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Wrong; the blue gatorade change was a direct response to the need to improve mobility and to increase the number of interesting map stories playing out breaking out the monotonous kill zone hallways of doom overpopulated by hmg sentinels and shotgun corners and a direct answer to roof top camping without the use of Vehicles which has been one of dusts major and massive unfun problems in the course of the last year as many weapon solutions where not simply dislodging people and one FGer or two can claim roof superiority.
Jump Fatigue is on the same level of this change.
Before anywhere in the galaxy I was; If I told pandemic legion I had tackeled a carrier would you like a free kill? They would respond within 5 minutes with a kill fleet and before the soon to be doomed carrier friends arrived.
Post Jump Fatique; it may be a few hours before the first ship arrives; Capital ships are now able to go through star gates a long held old age norm that was destroyed for the change.
Another massive mistake and fantasy you have though is that simply put; New Eden is not gritty because it wants to be; it is gritty because of human nature to be assholes and most people are just trying to get by day to day. If ruining your rooftop camping requires a disco ball laser grenade so be it.
I mean if you really want to argue;
How does a interdictor nullifier work? Interdictor sphers drain all the negative space energy out of the area making it impossible to drain enough localized negative space to form the required gravity mass for the warp drive. Yet interdictor nullfier equipped ships can fly through a 200 meter diameter sphere of this pocket anomaly without skipping a beat.
Inversely Deadspaces are called that because they feature the exact same characteristics of a nullifer sphere minus artificiality. Yet the nullfiers dont work in there thus warping within a deadspace is impossible.
I am beginning to equate this argument nearly as stupid as the supposively lore breaking uplinks.
By gawd people play some lvl 4 missions; Ever since sansha came back from the dead and is angry; we been trying to reverse engineer wormhole generator tech; uplinks are one such yet lethal result.

Ok... Um, so comparing balancing efforts in eve to an effort to make a relatively obscure module more viable while simultaneously adding a feature a player requested and making tye module work as it logically would considering physics is apples to apples. Comparing it to your silly ferret launcher idea, while awesome and i would buy one(hell i bought a prototype snowball launcher so why not?) Is 100% apples to oranges.
Yes i read your trello card. And you got your feature picked to be put in the game. And then you cried. There is a rule regarding making your requests overly specific and that is vecause we dont know what is and isnt feasible with their current code base and development pipeline. Stop being an ingrate and enjoy the feature YOU got added.
For the last time, new eden is not the same as your fantasy of new eden. Were all here to play a game so its not like im gonna tell you to grow up. But for f*cks sake learn to be more mature. You dont own this sandbox any more than any of the rest of us do so learn to be thankful when the rules are changed based on your request. Nobody should have to lecture you about this any longer. I see no reason for this thread to continue.

I am pleased that you are hardcore FPS, knowing this creates hope.
The further you tread from RL authenticity the harder it is to balance-as witnessed in the divide on the myo's.
I am also pleased that you have seperated space from planetary warfare-hell, there is no gravity in space.
Can I request a new map on a planet that has variable gravity? So your team can monitor movement speed VS hit detection-not sexy nor cool, but it's the #1 "problem" with DUST.
Thanks for the DMG mod.

After all we don't have a test server.
Which is why I am not advocating for a nerf until the packs are in. The meta change of the game play positives are just too great to ignore the gripe about being vertically challenged and points of access only available to dropships have immensely dropped severely. No place save the towers are safe from ambush anymore; many a roof campers are sadden they have to watch their backs now. This aspect must be preserved regardless; this is a change for the positive.
The whole jumping impractically while in combat can go jump packs on cooldowns will see to that.
Lets learn obverse and design better form our mistakes. Also I would like to see a general buff to all suits default jump height. 2 inch ledges are killing me smalls. Hey I get the feeling you have to have noticed this but less armor = higher jump. As in, a minmatar commando with no modules can jump a foot or two/an amarr sentinel stacking plates on plates on heavier plates struggles to jump an inch or two. This is not a bad situation and if heavies need to choose between myofibs and not being able to vault while armored to the teeth, great

News flash, the rest of us are celebrating the fact its a little different, not giving ultimatums. Offer compromise like a big boy instead of sounding spoiled like my sister.
On the subject of compromise, mim scout could use some pg or an extra high to keep up w cal scout capabilities. I could name my fit but adv weapons and proto protection really too much pg for making use of those two equip slots... I'd assume the less pg to keep people from stacking kincats/code breakers on fastest rated class for both activities, not counting your gal scout which already does more w less, as it would seem.
Not a typo when I say, "mim scout out classed by gal & cal with speed/ Electronic war" I don't have extra high for precious shield that I can't use or the precision which I could or the powergrid to proto cloak and needle.
Thank you for your time and patience w my long winded post 9/10 mins in love w this game the the other 1 I spend rage quitting
If player trading could allow me to pass bpo to my alts on same "character account" i'd appreciate that reward for not making multi psn passive sp generating alts. As my tanker and my alt both on same psn.

I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree.
This is why Rattati is my bro. He speaks ups for the the potential of Dust and the work put into it as well.

First off, I just want to say that it really works my nerves whenever someone says that something was designed because they think it was "silliness for silly sake". It's incredibly frustrating whenever someone literally thinks that their opinion and world-view of how New Eden and Dust 514's design is the only one that matters and that's exactly what you're displaying here.
Ripley Riley wrote:Iron Wolf Saber wrote:we're about 300 lbs and I forgot the size but at least 6 ft. Also eve's done just as silly things. The things you listed are all some kind of nerf or balancing effort. Bunny hopping blue gatorade is neither of those things; it is silliness for silly sake. If Eve had implemented a new weapon system that fired rockets filled with space ferrets that attack the enemy vessel on impact we would be comparing apples to apples. Greiv Rabbah wrote:Ripley Riley: gets a feature he specifically requested and then quits dust bc of it. Wow. I just want to let everyone else here see how ridiculous that sounds. First off, please read my trello card: https://trello.com/c/ndrbokFX "Equipment that actively increases your jump height and/or distance. The base unit increases jump height and distance. A variant could exist that increases height much more than distance.
The heavier the dropsuit the less of a benefit you receive from this module. Like most pieces of equipment, it would have a cooldown. Another variant could offer reduced jump heights/distances but a faster cooldown."
I wanted a piece of equipment, not a passive module. Second, I am not quitting Dust. I am taking a break for a while. If Rattati tones down the myofibs I will probably return sooner rather than later. I will absolutely sign in for the Warlords 1.1 launch. Chances of me purchasing aurum are nil until I see Dust's direction change back to a heading somewhere in the same ******* hemisphere as New Eden.
Second off, please quit Dust 514 over something so superficial. I know I said that I'd probably stop playing and move onto something more entertaining if they nerfed the myrofibrils but that's because, for the first time since 1.7, my playstyle actually -FEELS- as powerful as it used to be. I've been waiting a -long- time to be able to say that the Gallente Assault is actually viable and if you talk to anyone that watched my livestream last night they'd be inclined to agree ONLY BECAUSE of the power provided by the Myrofibrils in CQC (melee kills were awesome) and the navigational ability they provide (I got out of a lot of hairy situations).
"Silliness for silly sake" makes me -so angry- because that's the only thing anyone's actually got against them. That it "breaks immersion" and "isn't the way Dust was designed", which are all amateur opinions from people who are -NOT- developers, have -NOTHING- to do with the design, and are just slathering their opinionated bias all over the place because they don't like it for reasons we may never truly understand because they never actually say -WHY- they don't like it besides the same slack-jawed excuse of those I listed in quotations.

Neither the level design nor the animations really support the super jumps, and one module that provide such awesome benefits is a little iffy. The only reason I don't totally hate them is because having something to put in your highs other than shields or damage is nice.
I'm not saying bunnyville is necessarily bad, it just feels like they want this to be next gen and to keep up with the FPS trends, but it just ends up looking really funny, kind of like a little kid making his first drawing. It's a great effort and everyone's proud, but, it's no Norman Rockwell.

In addition to the silliness factor the myofibs don't really feel like they have much of a drawback. They use stamina, but scouts and Minmatar dropsuits regen stamina so quickly it is almost a none issue. They occupy a slot that could be used for a tanking module, but flying through the air makes you even more difficult to land a shot on so who needs a tank then?

Tactical generally refers the the whole scope of the game; not every single individual engagement **** fights between two squads or less. Its more about battlefield flow and control and the mryos are a means and tool in that box in gaining control and disrupting the flow.
A game that claims tactical superiority but actually lacks it is planet side 2. This is a direct result of being unable to inflict permanent damage to a fighting force and the map designs are so atrociously horrible they favor the people outside of the facility usually rather the inside. To the point a numerically inferior force can plow its way into a superiority numbered base and still win because the base offers no help in its defense.
Also we can definitely see to buffing the other pills if they need it such as lowering stamina costs for smacking someone or the like.

People join eve and say it's crap because X, i had a buddy who tried it and hated it. Those people just don't bother joining the right corps and don't know how to make things happen for themselves. I bet you just followed the missions from base to base with the scrubs as well, like most.
The only thing dust has over ps2 is player progression and customisation. I love both games but don't be trying to fool people that dust is anything better. It's pretty much the same deal on a match by match basis with less of everything and ps2 has much better customisation options for looks and right down to camo's and emblems.
There is so much happening at once in ps2 that it does have tactical superiority. Working in unison with other outfits is great and you can operate in the hundreds and across two continents at once. What can you do in dust?, hire ringers and arrange battles by way of timers. Even using your own logic of "Tactical generally refers the the whole scope of the game; not every single individual engagement **** fights between two squads or less. Its more about battlefield flow and control and the mryos are a means and tool in that box in gaining control and disrupting the flow." yeah we have jetpacks and you shot yourself in the foot if you can see it. No other game has the level of tactics that ps2 does and that's using your own logic as well 'The whole scope of the game'.

now something for everyone. speaking of silliness for silliness' sake: FEDO. If you don't know what a fedo is, you havent lived in new eden. that thing is conceptually silly as hell but its been a part of new eden since before eve online was a game. so nobody gets to have their panties in a twist about silliness. silliness has always been in dust, always been in eve, and before the two were games, silliness was a thing in new eden anyway. dont like that a module makes sense physically? get over it. feel like rattati is doing away with the "old vision of dust" go watch the dust keynote from two years ago. emphasis was put on verisimilitude. is this exactly the way they meant? doubtful or we'd have seen it before. but it is verisimilitude nonetheless, which is not only within the bounds of the advertised "fundamental vision" of dust, its actually PREFECTLY IN LINE with it.

Maybe you should go watch some more movies or something and see how often 'super jumps' is a thing. Let's pretend you are playing a Spider-man video game. Spider-man is very durable and strong for a human, he's got enhanced senses of perception, ultra fast reflexes to the point where it borders on precognition (Spider Sense), wall crawling, etc. etc.
I expect these things because I have knowledge of the comic book informing my experience.
Now suddenly, mid-way through the game, Spider-Man can hold down X to charge his eye lasers and fire and Optic Blast!
...wait what?...
Spider-man doesn't have optic blasts, does he? I thought that was a Cyclops thing. Is this an alternate timeline where Spider-man is actually Scott Summers? The devs/writers never explained how this happened at this point. I feel detached from the game now. It's no longer a story about Spider-man. It's about this guy who is a lot like Spider-man but with eye lazors.
This is a bit extreme, but it illustrates how I feel. I thought I had a relatively firm grasp on what the Dust 514 clone mercenaries should be like. Now Rattati up and turns them into rocket jumping soldiers from TF2 because he probably had a few PLC shots he could have made if he could jump a little higher
Aeon Amadi wrote:Aside from your idea of what the game should be confined to (rooftops only accessible by kill ladders and dropships) what is your legitimate argument against Myrofibrils? Pumpkin, I never said that Did you read the entire OP? I offered up what is a valid way to combat roof top camping without Game Genie-esque super jumps: jump packs.
If Rattati truly can't create the art assets necessary to implement a jump pack... use the nanohive equipment icon, call it a Powered Exoskeleton, make it an active module with all of the specifications I described minus the ability to hover. It's not great, but it will do until an artist can make the assets for the jump pack.
So I'm going to pretend you said, "Can you condense your position against the new myofibs down to a paragraph, please?"
Sure Aeon.
I imagined Dust 514 mercenaries as serious, gritty, heavy. The myofib changes make them out to be silly, lighthearted, floaty. I feel this is opposed to New Eden's tone and setting. Our maps were not designed with this in mind; cover and battle flow are basically useless now that everyone can leap over obstacles unhindered. Finally, there are other (better) ways of fixing what players were complaining about. This change feels like a lazy shortcut, if I'm being completely honest.
Greiv Rabbah wrote:Believe it or not, i respect your opinion, but i will not condone you stamping your feet, throwing yourself to the ground, and holding your breath until you get what you want. something that you didnt like happened. and nobody feels for you very much because you literally... 100% literally asked for it to happen. you wanted a way for people to get up to points they couldnt, without having to use a vehicle. you specifically requested it to be so, and it happened. now you're throwing a hissy fit and its pathetic. stop acting like new eden has to be your way or it isnt new eden. theres a reason that nobody who's been living in new eden longer than Dust514 has been around is siding with you on this, and maybe you should take a minute to think about that. Greiv, I am not going to repeat myself again so please pay very close attention: this is not what I asked for.
I asked for an active module, not passive. Rattati saw my trello card idea, decided that creating visual assets for a jump pack was hard, and instead created this always-on Super Mario module because fun. Nevermind how weird and off-putting it is to see stiff limbed clones flying through the air like store manikins being shot out of a cannon.
My response was to post a single thread in GD. Your definition of "stomping your feet" and "throwing yourself to the ground and holding your breath until you get what you want" is vastly different from mine. I'm not spamming the forums with threads, preaching 'the end is nigh', or being a vulgar troll. I explained why I am taking a break from Dust 514. Nothing more, nothing less. But if you paint me as being immature then it makes it easier to dismiss my point of view so I can see why you are taking this angle
And 24 Likes on my OP indicates the forum isn't 100% in love with the myofib change. Before you say anything, yes I realize that the forums comprise only a fraction of the community, but still... Some people see New Eden being bled from Dust 514 and they are not a fan.

EVE isn't designed to just look like a cold, dark and harsh world, it's designed to be a cold, dark and harsh world. - CCP Wrangler.

oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=517540&page=1#30 Ah, perfect. This is what I am talking about right here. Unfortunately, I do believe this CCP employee is no longer with us. Wish he could stop by CCP Shanghai and let CCP Rattati know what's up.
hey rip, heres what the carebear he was telling off started out with
"I have been in mmorpg games for a long time and I have played pvp games and non pvp games. I have a resume far too long and spend far too much time playing games. Here is my analysis of this game:
There is an emerging elite class of players rising out of Eve Online leaving the average joes in the dust. Some players are benefiting from the many and at their expense. The competitive Eve player LOVES this as it rewards the strong and crushes the weak. The problem is its the average joes that are paying the electric bills on the Ramsan too.
Normally MMORPG developers thwart the eating of their young by granting them consensual / non consensual pvp systems and areas. Eve empire space (as it was conveyed to me) was supposed to be that area. I thought that until I was "stupid enough" to transport my hangar through hi sec space and lost 2 years of my game life about 4 months ago so someone else could make use of a crappy game feature and get 15 minutes of fun.
It won't take long for this thread to get flamed into oblivion because IGÇÖve seen it before but last I checked all subscribing players get to have a say on these forums whether they pvp or not and I got about 36 hours left. -Being a person who likes PvP or a person who likes to gank defenseless players may make you think your epeen is bigger, but the reality of it is this game could still be fun if there were limited opportunities for others to enjoy the game without being someoneGÇÖs cannon fodder. There is no real world definition out there that says you're a better person or player because you choose to pvp....get that out of your head. Also please understand IGÇÖm not asking for WoW here. There has to be a medium. Fact:
As older characters get older and make more money and get better ships the market demands and the game content demands inflate with it. The new content expansions have done what content expansions do to all games: they trivialize the content that comes before it. This is bad for new characters in Eve because its boring to do mundane things to get to the good stuff. YouGÇÖre not building expansion content with the newer players in mind GÇô you always stack new stuff on top which benefits mainly people who have been through the older stuff. The effect is starting to take hold and the disparity is evident.
Fact:
If you choose to NOT pvp you only give up your ability to fight back in this game. Its perfectly reasonable and acceptable for the community and the developers to see freighters and industrial ships with no defense / weaponry blow up in high sec space due to broken game mechanics. Bring a friend eh?
How does it help immersion and RP and all that to sit at a gate and 1 shot defenseless ships? Why would it be so terrible to have areas where competitive or even preying pvp is possible and other areas where its not? WTF is empire for? Remove Concord then and be done with it or stop this stupid 1 shot killing. Even UO had guards FFs.
The Darwinism aspects of this game can be great and I thought they were but if you take it too far you start cutting into my game time which is downtime after a hard days work. I want to love this game but there is so much BS I donGÇÖt know. I donGÇÖt see how its too much to ask that the risk (or time) vs reward be balanced 50/50 and not in the favor of the halfwit(s) sitting at the gate waiting for defenseless ships to roll through?
If miners and industrialists are the backbone for the supply and demand paradigm in Eve online then they should be allowed a bit more exclusivity in that department. As it stands now you can play icon wars mining ore or you can go run complexes and forego the need for industrists kick them in the balls on mineral prices.
Maybe its time to just be a bit more honest about who this game is for and stop marketing it as a game available to pvp GÇÿr and crafter alike."
just thought i'd throw it in for everyone who wont look up the original thread. in other words, it was somebody crying about how they didnt like how the game works. somebody who thought that they should change new eden to what he felt it ought to be instead of what it is. because he was dting to a game mechanic he didnt like. sound familiar bruh?

But if you paint me as being immature then it makes it easier to dismiss my point of view so I can see why you are taking this angle And 24 Likes on my OP indicates the forum isn't 100% in love with the myofib change. Before you say anything, yes I realize that the forums comprise only a fraction of the community, but still... Some people see New Eden being bled from Dust 514 and they are not a fan. yeah you're right, you made your own thread and i came in and lectured you for it. now, i'm in the wrong for that, but your thread is stupid. its like if you were playing a game where they talk about spider mans super strength, but it only reflects in his punches, his jumps are still weak as all hell. then the devs of the game realize this and how it makes no sense in-world, so they update it so that he can jump like spider-man as well as punch like spider man. then someone cries that spider man shouldnt jump like that because his super strength only works in his hand....
well, that sounds ret*rded doesnt it? well, the in-game info describes it as boosting the users strength, and now the items usage reflects that.
^ this is the current situation here. the item more closely reflects its in-game description, effectively deepening immersion by increasing verisimilitude. in other words, it enhances a reasonable suspension of disbelief by making the item adhere to physics in-universe
your response was more than simply making a thread in GD. your response was to decide to leave because you dont like what the community is doing in a sandbox game. its all play and trash talk and all that when all is good, but the truth is that a sandbox game depends on the community. the tone of the game is inluenced by how the community decides to react to an ever-evolving world. in a game like this, its up to the bittervets to show the newbros the ropes and every bittervet that leaves because theyre fed up with the game not going exactly how they want is hurting the game overall. this is what i feel is detrimental about your reaction. you DID get the feature you requested, maybe not in the exact way you hoped, but youre still being immature over it when what the dev team did makes perfect sense and in no way breaks immersion. i will continue to insist that it improves it.
Maybe you DO need to step away from new eden for a few days, come back, and see that new eden has always been a little silly and a lot dark. come back and see that tank fighting with a gun that fires a kamehameha is silly. see that killing people with a grenade that does nothing but disrupt life support systems is grim as all hell but we laugh our *sses off at it, see that the harder murdertaxi-ing becomes, the more sport drivers find in it, and maybe see that the way myofibs work now is what finally makes sense physically based on how myofibs are described to work. you dont have much room to talk about having to repeat yourself when you illustrate that you either didnt listen to or actively ignored things i pointed out before.
NAMELY if rattati was trying to turn us into rocket jumping soldiers from tf2... why not just change mass drivers and flaylocks back to pre-1.4 mechanics? i honestly miss flaylock jumping, and when it killed me, was that not silly? was that not dark and gritty? are the two mutually exclusive? im going to say no, and continue to assert that if myofibs DONT boost jumps, then they CANT boost punches. think about this for a few minutes.
...
i'll wait.

Not to sound Bitter Rattati, but game play was better in Feb/Mar of 2013. Yes we had less features but you could play the game and enjoy it. Now, not so much.
Player trading is coming SOON, we have heard that many times especially the SOON part. It is a running joke.
Yes the game has improved with hot fixes A through E, but that is because it was destroyed with the Uprising release.
I am still trying to figure out which of the two supported character types I need to learn to play. They both can now jump over buildings.
Scout: nearly invisible and ohk with shotguns and RE's but low EHP. or Assault High Ehp and bonus's to help in slaying
No point in staying a Logi, every update there is an equipment adjustment that helps every other class do the logi's job even better. Yes I can use more BW than any other suit but whats the point?
An assault can carry 6 K2 Hives, no need for resupply
A scout can carry the same 6 K2 hives and RE's. No need for anything now they can jump over any thing and throw RE's without fear. They can carry a needle and repair tool do a better job because they can move faster and jump higher than any logi can think of.
Closed Beta Vet
Minmatar Logistics I Repair, Revive, and Replenish. Leave the slaying for Assaults and Heavies.

Same with Planetary Conquest. I wholeheartedly believe that DUST is an unmatched experience and is getting better all the time. I double-dare you to read Hotfixes Alpha through Echo again if you don't agree. I wanted dust to be the thinking man's FPS. Dusts needs to be overhauled more than being simplified. You are contributing factors that can be easily explained through other means . Also WoW has 10 million subs up from the 6.8 million months ago. Although simplifying the game as it is won't benefit anything since the fitting system is one of the very few mechanics that has any real depth to it. I don't think CCP even cares about it being apart of Eve universe; since nearly all the ideas that makes it more like eve is gone( reason why BPOs is still a thing)
We have bugs now that we might as well call legacy bugs. They haven't been fixed ever. We still have rail weapon not applying damage consistently, we still have vehicles falling through the map, we still have vehicle active modules glitching out vehicle turret and module functions, we still have invisible swarms.
Attempts have been made and all have failed.
What happened to making fine adjustments with a scalpel? We took shields that had good fitting capacity and made the unable to build a competive fit. Mean while the madruggar fits almost anything. I thought it was stated by CCP, that the fitting design was same tier modules (with one being a lower tier module) on an equal tier tank? You can't even fit one of each type of module without needing fitting mods. I'll bet good money it'll be months before any of that gets fixed. The madruggar is insane now. I drive around in one and I can ignore other tanks because they simply can not kill me. Infantry are the only threat to me now.
Native armor reps for everything in the game makes logis useless. And when everyone will have 3 or 4 compact nanohives, logis will be completely unecessary. Now, Rattati breaks his own rules, with buffing the ascr. Why? And what if people continue not to use it? Will he buff it again? And again? Until the weapon doesn't even make sense?
There are ways to balance stuff but no one want to go that route.
EDIT: when I remember that dust is splay the beta for legion... Everything makes more sense. |

I wish CCP Rattati, CCP Rouge and the rest of the DUST team played EVE a bit on the side (a few hours a week). I'd love it if Rattati was in a corp like Red vs. Blue and got to experience a lot of fast-paced, low-stakes frigate brawls. I think it could add a lot of value by bringing in the right parts of EVE to DUST. I'd really like vehicle gameplay to mirror frigate fights in EVE, with tackling, capacitors, Ewar, out maneuvering the enemy, etc.
I have mixed feelings on the blue pills. Clearly there is something broken with stacking penalties that needs to be resolved and I would like to see how they work once they are functioning as intended. The idea of adding verticality to combat is fantastic and much needed, and adding jump height to blue pills is a logical extension of that module as well as giving it a purpose. I love that we can now access more areas of the map, but the execution does feel lazy/sloppy. If I were master of the universe and had unlimited resources to make DUST how I wanted I would add the following things:
1. Vaulting/climbing so we can grab ledges and pull ourselves up, or climb over a railing. It wouldn't be parkour-like, more like a strong guy/girl pulling his very heavy suit over a ledge.
2. Jet packs. These would be equipment with high fitting costs and a suit bonused to use them (maybe the commando) like the cloak. A PRO jet pack could get you to the top of a tower. It would cause a massive increase in your signature, and you'd be lockable with swarms when it's active.
3. Grappling pin and magnetic boots. This piece of equipment would allow you to scale walls and even attach to horizontal or the underside of metallic vertical surfaces. You could hide on the ceiling like a bat and shoot people while upside down. This would be useful in 0G fights too for getting around (one day).
4. A real mass stat. Each suit would have a mass stat that would increase based on the modules fit. All of the movement stats would be derived from this: sprint speed, jump height, stamina use, even inertia for strafing, speed of ingress/egress from vehicles, etc. all of this would bring a sense of authenticity to the physics at play. If you double the force of a jump, you don't actually go twice as high (I'm pretty sure that's right). Mass would play a major factor in limiting jump height to believable levels. I don't care how many bath salts you sniff and how genetically modified your muscles are, jumping in a 300lbs suit is only going to get you but so far off the ground.
So I'm not against the idea of adding verticality to gameplay, or to increasing jump heights with blue pills, but I just want things to feel somewhat plausible. Blue pills should increase the amount of vertical force when you jump, but that should be fed into an equation based on the mass of the current suit to derive a jump height that is inline with Newtonian physics. (note this can all be calculated when you fit the suit, so it shouldn't impact gameplay performance).
The current implementation just feels out-of-place, like if CCP Shanghai decided to add spell casting to DUST. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being though, and let them tweak the numbers/code until blue pills are behaving as intended.
Best PvE idea ever!

If I intended to play a purposefully silly game this would be fine, but I didn't. What about boosters? Like the EVE ones? You know the things the drug lab POSes make? Lore-wise I think the stim changes make perfect sense. It was my understanding that boosters effect the mental capabilities of a capsuleer. I don't think our clone's neurologic function effect our jump distance, but I could be wrong Youre right. There are boosters that affect shield regeneration, which is explained for in that response times by the capsuleer to shield management systems are increased but that the capsuleers attention span is affected so other systems suffer.
The booster lore doesn't make much sense.
With biotics, the formula is injected into your bloodstream increasing physical capabilities. In the case of blue juice, strength. When you consider that shields are sacrificed for a strength boost.
its not only fair, it also fits the lore, and it also makes more sense than the reasoning for boosters working the way they do

Nobody has been complaining about all this and its been true the whole time! The classes originally reflected Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Rogue and to varying extents still do. Planetary battles in new eden have loosely resembled real-time d&d since the beginning and nobody takes issue with it until something they dislike happens and then its oh so bad. I would argue that for a game thats been touted as a fps/mmo hybrid since the beginning, dust does a better job of keeping the game a good fps and a decent RPG at the same time than most anybody else could have managed and they do it while fitting into the campaign setting of new eden quite well

Game ain't getting better if you can't find a solution to the lag and low framerate you get every match. |

Maybe we should just let things be for a few weeks and see before we ask the Devs to do anything? It's better to fully test new things out before passing judgement. Community idea? So was Jim Crow laws and the K.K.K. Your point? Oh yeah, N*ziism too!

Balistyc Farshot wrote:Rip - First: Dude, I thought you had more chops to stick this out. You unlike the forum trolls seem to understand that these patches are all being worked on, one at a time, so they take time to roll out or come out in small chunks. They had a bad patch, they have had these before (Remember the first Cloaking devices, geeze, my butthurt is still sore from the PCs at that time. Dust would probably sell better to the casual market if it were more fluffy and cuddly and "wheee look look I can jump really high mom!".
I apologize a bit for the first comment about the chops, you are right this patch was painful.
I never take things too serious in the game but the massive meta changes just are shredding the player base. I am seeing lots of older players jump ship because they are tired of these big swings. CCP, now is the time to push the, oh we screwed up button and just pull back blue pills for 2 weeks and then add them back in with the stacking penalties and maybe something like a stamina smack in the face. The skill also giving 10% more allows for monstrous jumps, like from the rings to a building and back.
Now the new tactic in PC is high ground wins. Fighting on the ground is worthless, due to the speed of relocation and no natural barriers. Now you want the high ground then mass driver, SCR, and RE until the enemy concedes.
BTW - I would love to respec and start over, but seriously, who knows where the game is going with the next hot fix.

In response to your dare though, consider this. Large turrets are still broken. Don't fire, don't reload, touch a module and they quit working, empty a clip by themselves - with massive overheat. Reading the hotfix notes didn't say they would be fixed though, so I'll give you that.
I would like to know if this jumping bit is staying in? Because dodging someone that is 20m high is tough. I got run down by two mercs on foot (although mostly in the air). I was in a shield tank. Popped, av grenade from on high and plasma goof balled to death. There isn't any a single way to combat that action. No auto-lock turrets. No deployable auto-turrets. No nothing.
So what is the current plan for tanks? Or is death by unintended consequences here to stay?
If that is the case then give us the militia fuel injection back - the one with the 100% speed boost! Because then we tankers might be able to get away from the jumpers and we might even have a little fun doing it. The current solution may be a unique experience but as sure as New Eden is as far from Heaven as you can get, this situation is not fun.
My favorite tank is a Lightning. Just sayin.

Are you driving inside of the city nodes? Those are supposed to be disadvantageous for tanks to combat in. Tanks are supposed to excel in open areas due to their speed, but loose potency in tighter areas.
You will have to employ assistant gunners if you wish to go into a node anymore.

oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=517540&page=1#30 Ah, perfect. This is what I am talking about right here. Unfortunately, I do believe this CCP employee is no longer with us. Wish he could stop by CCP Shanghai and let CCP Rattati know what's up. also, see please this document. I do not believe that the age group that appears in it as a major, is a fan of Spider-Man. I believe that the main audience - serious people playing the game, far away from clowning. CCP should be terrified of those statistics. You see that there is not really any new blood and those that are playing are those that have from early on

Fleen, what I asked for is not currently in Dust 514. I asked for some kind of active equipment, not a pasivr passive module.
