I also am a huge fan of all things New Eden, and I agree that the jump heights are probably not currently working as intended.
That said, the idea of high mobility units is not contrary to the idea of New Eden at all. To offer an EVE parallel, many frigates, especially interceptor class vessels are speed tanked. Speed, and by extension mobility, has always been a valid tanking format in EVE. Translating that to DUST however becomes more complicated as hitting is done more by skill over firing algorithms, and the ability for a player to track a foe with their gun varies wildly from how larger capsuleer ships do so.
3-D mobility is an important aspect to New Eden, and to DUST as it allows those who would be speed tanked to dramatically increase the potential movements they can take to avoid fire, as well as move quickly in unexpected ways to ambush and use that speed as much as an offensive measure as it is defensive.
With more reasonable max jump heights, I see no reason to say the blues break the spirt and vision of New Eden.
That said, I do think the blue drugs should have a drawback, such as decreasing max stamina. (Lore wise: Such powerful biotic enhancements come at the cost of more exertion per motion causing you to run out of strength more quickly.) |

Its link to EVE is next to non existant.
Its skill tree nothing like what is in EVE, lots of useless skills which offer no bonuses just modules and unlocks.
AV weapons are looking to become omni damage, guess what weapons would be next? thats right infantry so then running shield and armor doesn't matter, just pick your fave suit and gun and go to town.
'Your choices matter' well no they don't when it gets changed on a whim.
EVE motto 'HTFU', DUST514 motto 'QQ until it gets nerfed'
The vision of EVE/DUST corps working together by orbiting a planet and sending down mercs to get control of something to blast a ship in the sky while 10 different platoons are also working on the same planet and can talk and link with each other and swap from district to district to get the job done has long disappeared.
Templar One book does a better job of describing what it should be like but that is a book and it is so much easier to write about it than to actually do it.
I would like to try and say enjoy the game while it lasts but i'm having a hard time of doing that, it isn't the same game that i started to play 3 years ago and there isn't much of the old game left.

On the note of "omni-damage types" that is currently only a discussion topic, not something that has already been set in stone.
Also, please don't use slippery slopes with your infantry weapons argument. The reason it was being considered for AV weapons was because there is currently a severe imbalance in anti-armor vs anti-shield AV, and that imbalance is problematic. The arguments for balanced damage types for AV basically boiled down to a concern of balance with what we currently have.

I guess we should tell games workshop to remove assault marines.
That sounds pretty amazing. Maybe a new line of light dropsuits that get bonuses to jumping and active jump packs when enabled? It would certainly be refreshing to see a new suit type added that takes advantage of verticality as a primary attribute.
Jump Infantry or something?

There is a lot more to lose by having to stacking a lot of Myofibrils than to simply lose an equipment slot for the same capability. IMO, it's well balanced to have shield tankers basically become fragile and armor tankers lose their capability to increase damage. It comes at a major cost to both tanking styles in one way or another. This isn't something that would be the case with equipment. Equipment can have drawbacks prebuilt into it; shield/armor regeneration is halted as auxiliary power is directed to the plasma thrusters, for example. Scan profile could also increase when the boosters are activated. There are options to balance equipment. Aeon Amadi wrote:Literally a bunch of CoD/Battlefield players who want the same mediocre modern shooter just with different skins. You figured it out. How did you guess?!
I'd argue a suit would be more interesting, and the jumppack work more like the cloak field, fittable, but difficult to do so without the jump suits.
That way you could build the suits around the concept of verticality, with the suits also able to give bonuses to this play style that help cement the role into New Eden.
(Imagines an Amarrian Jump Trooper that causes a flux blast on landing, ala 40k Jump Marines have their impact damage) |
